So with this announcement, what do you think between a Mac mini M2 Pro or the Mac Studio M1 Max? Price wise it's pretty close when you put 32GB of memory & 1GB storage.... The Mac Studio has more IO ports. I don't even know if I'd need a M2 Pro either. I've been using PowerPC and Intel Macs forever... haven't used the silicon ones.

I currently have a 27" iMac 2020 that's in need of upgrade. I do a lot of live streaming / presentations and it's been lagging. I do graphics work and video editing (all adobe CS programs) but that's only support my presentations.

I'll have three screens - two 27" screens, one 4k & one 5k + a field monitor for my teleprompter. I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a forth screen at some point. Ha :)

It's great that they are offering this.

It is a little disturbing that an M2 Pro Mini prices out at only $300 less than an equivalently configured Mac Studio, which has an M1 Max.

Personally I would take the Mini either way, but I'd expect a larger price gap there. Will be interesting to see what the M2 Max Studio costs.
I'm getting that it's $100 more than the Studio.

Mini with upgraded CPU, 32GB memory, 512 SSD & 10G= $2099
Studio with base Max, 32GB memory, 512 SSD & 10G= $1999

According to Apple's website, the M2 (non Pro) version of the Mac mini also supports up to an 8K output via HDMI, so it looks like the ordinary version got HDMI 2.1 too.

Ah. I'm comparing with base Mini CPU, and not 10G.

The Mini coming out *higher* than the Studio is kind of nuts... except that if you don't need the extra GPU, the M2 Mini will probably be a somewhat better performer. So...

Still *feels* wrong. Wouldn't be surprised to see Apple "fix" this by cranking up the cost of the Studio.

Why is HDMI 2.1 only on the pro mac mini and not normal one
Yeah HDMI 2.1 (48gbps) is a “Pro only” feature just like 120hz iPhone Pro displays in Apple world. Weird upselling they do.

Not buying M2 mac mini purely for this reason. I don’t intend to spend double amount just to get 4k 120/144 hz available on “Pro” model. They lost my sale due to such cunning tactic.

Varies between countries (thank exchange rates) and/or whether you want 10GB Ethernet.
In the US a Mini Pro, 12 core, 32GB is the same price as the base Studio. In the UK it's £100 more.

Wait for the benchmarks - with faster CPU/GPU cores, more (albeit only efficiency cores) CPU cores and only a few less GPU cores, it's likely that the M2 Pro will be faster than the M1 Max in many cases (especially the binned 24 GPU core version).

On ports, the Studio wins by a couple of front-mounted USB-C ports and a SD card reader. Not sure if that would make/break a deal if the Mini Pro is faster for your work.

...and, of course, the next round of rumours and speculation will be if/when the Studio will get a M2 Max.

Why would you expect a bigger price gap? Especially if they are configured the same? $300 difference seems right in line for the small differences the Studio would give you? This looks like the perfect pricing structure if you ask me.

While I went Studio when it launched, I have to say these new Minis look like the ideal "separates" Mac for the masses. I'm surprised modern Apple Inc. dropped the pricing while rolling out "latest & greatest" Silicon.

I would think most people wanting a new desktop Mac should buy Mini. Only the subset actually needing the added power of MAX or ULTRA should look at Studio... and then prob hold out for M2/3 Studio at this point.

No convincing me that $2199 spent on a new mini is better than on an equivalent Studio.
Wait for the real-world performance tests - there's a good chance the Mini will be faster at many workloads. The only reason the M1 Max would be faster is if its 24 GPU cores can beat 19 faster M2 GPU cores or where the second media engine comes into play. We'll see.

M2 mini 16/1TB for close to €1400 is a good deal, a similarly specced macbook Air is €900 more and the gain is just the screen. Either the Air is overpriced or the mac mini is a steal.

Even the base mini is less expensive than what I paid in 2018 for a base quad-core i3/8/128. for €100 less I get twice the storage and I do not know how much faster the processor is. I’d get the upgrade to 16 Ram though, as I am planning on buying a 4k camera. That raises the price to €950 and will continue using the external ssd drive. Not bad, not bad.

PEOPLE!
this first question is:
Will these new MacBooks control the narrative?

anyways
what I just did now was grab a MacBook for downstair use in th nice 78º weather
either I'm REALLY attached to the MacBook Pro 2012 and Monterey
because the MacBook Air M1 2020 Ventura one stayed upstairs.
why did no I grab that one?
that is a nice MacBook, faster- but too boxy and pristine?

I hues i'm not ready for today's release until 2034

The 2x faster memory bandwidth in the Max is going to make a difference

Possibly... and I'm not sure what the deal is with the number of media engines etc. However, it will all depend upon applications. Thing is, even the M1 Max vs M1 Pro wasn't a huge upgrade unless you needed the extra GPU.

Within the same product, to go from a base level Pro chip to a base level Max chip is $500. Add the massive design of the Studio vs. the Mini and it should be *at least* $500 more, probably more like $600.

To me, this points to price increases for the M2 Studio. We'll see.

246GB SSD in the “base Pro” model in 2023?. Who can live with that????. Please… Ripping of customers knowing that model will be useless the soon the owner uses it forcing him to get a new one soon or making everyone to buy a higher end model. Selling the same car with 1 seat to save you money?!. Yeah, sure.
