Do you think it’s ok to buy the first runs of the new m4 computers or is it better to wait a month or two in case there are any production kinks to work out
Do you think it’s ok to buy the first runs of the new m4 computers …
since there is no redesign but mac mini...and M4 is already there for months...there is no worryDo you think it’s ok to buy the first runs of the new m4 computers or is it better to wait a month or two in case there are any production kinks to work out
16x Hidra = Skylab 2.0
- 256-core CPU (64P/192E)
- 2056-core GPU
- 512-core Neural Engine
- 4TB LPDDR6X RAM
- 8.64TB/s UMA bandwidth
This monster will cost ~$150,000 to $200,000
Nah, about $75K or so; it would make a killer personal desktop workstation... ;^p
I am curious, what products are people here looking for? Personally my base need is just a desktop that is almost silent that is substantially more powerful than a laptop. Currently sporting a m3max 16” 128/4tb and it rarely limit me in work but I really would like the 10Gbe network and more ports and a consistent performance when running longer runs like for AI and 3d rendering but tbh, outside of experimentation that is offloaded to a remote machine/cluster anyway so I do not need the ultimate in perf, just decent but then again my comparison is with pro threadrippers with nvidia cards.
I would instabuy a m4ultra if it was available in a desktop form factor, probably max out ram and be set for quite some time. Since ai framworks are in a lousy state on mac it sometimes hard to use for AI work independent of the power of the HW. Pytorch for example is quite unreliable and I find it not really as an option to use MLX etc. in fantasy land, if torch worked would find it lovely to have an m4/5 extreme with 200 GB ram/vram that would be competitive with something like a h200 but I really dont excpect that even if one can fantasize based on the rumors that apple will be creating server level chips for their own needs. However, a h200 based system is quite expensive so if similar power were available it would cost north of 30k and yet again, I would professionally go with nvidia anyway. I guess apple knows this so it will be interesting seeing how they navigate this space.
So, what are you guys hoping for? For real?
Yeah and half ot that is the storage. This has been the case for years.Folks that complained about the power button on the back of the old Mac mini & the Mac Studio about to lose their minds...
Oh, and how about that pricing for a maxed out M4 Pro Mac mini...?
- M4 Pro SoC
- 14-core CPU
- 20-core GPU
- 16-core Neural Engine
- 64GB RAM
- 8TB SSD
- 10Gb Ethernet
- US$4,699
Who cares, I almost never turn my MacStudio off, only when I go on holiday. It is a Mac not a Windows machine.Folks that complained about the power button on the back of the old Mac mini & the Mac Studio about to lose their minds...

Unfortunately, the Amazon comparison-page leak precludes that. It still shows M2 for the Studio.… Well, one could of course hope for a suprise reveal of a m4ultra as well tomorrow but that would have been actually well hidden from rumors
So, the m4 pro is 8+4 cores and 273 gb mem bandwidth and a 20 core gpu.
I wonder how that compares to a m3 pro and m3 max in real world apps like blender. I expect it to actually be faster than a m2 max so that makes the current studio with m2 max totally redundant. I see there is either hope for a m4 mac studio or that they just drop the m2 max version to just keep the m2ultra as an option. Well, one could of course hope for a suprise reveal of a m4ultra as well tomorrow but that would have been actually well hidden from rumors
True. But one can hope. It’s actually even worse. 10 perf cores and 4 e cores on a “full m4 pro”. It has a chance of being very close to a m3 max on the cpu side and similar to a m2 max on gpu but with additional perf in e.g raytracing for rendering in blender. And you have thunderbolt 5 ports as well. Jez, what a mess if ther is no studio with max chip this yearUnfortunately, the Amazon comparison-page leak precludes that. It still shows M2 for the Studio.
Was there not a weirdo rumor of a medium sized cylinder pro with aluminum lattice floating around? Not quite a cube though…iMac on Monday, Mac mini on Tuesday, Mac Studio on Wednesday to complete the Mac desktop line-up...
TB5 in the Mac Studio proclaimed enough for PCIe expansion chassis usage, Mac Pro discontinued...?
WWDC 2025 debuts the M4 Extreme chip and the all-new Mac Pro Cube...?!?
;^p
Yes, I guess we could argue the Amazon leak page was meant for today, not tomorrow. Thus the confusion, with the “one more thing” M4 Max Studio refresh coming as a surprise tomorrow…True.
