ahuumm.... damn i think i forgot my meds again

ok but seriously and not to steal the topic away. can someone explain to me in 2 sentences what is up with this trolling business. Why does it matter so much that you can change the conversation?

All I care about is whether Apple can make the Mini smaller and thinner.

Well, you are in luck. You have the TOP people in the world working on that very thing, as we speak.

Of course, user functionality will have to suffer. But sacrifices must be made to make the world's thinnest desktops.

:apple:

In case you have missed it through all these blabber...

The next Mac mini could be delayed until next year according to: https://www.macrumors.com/2013/10/1...-pro-all-reportedly-expected-by-mid-november/

At least it won't be updated in the october/november timeframe.

Update of Mac Mini isn't a major event...thus, it will happen silently (similar to iMac). When? Possibly, after the event of Oct., 22nd....I guess before the end of October.

Let's wait and see...nothing has chnaged yet!

I totally agree with you.

I sure hope you're all right, I've been sitting on the cash for the mini for over a month now! My PC is limping along about to give out, if the mini isn't released soon I'm going to have to go with something else. I can't bear to spend the money on something I know is about to be obsoleted, but the time will come when I need a new computer. I'd be surprised if the PC made it through this month...

I am sat on the cash waiting for the refresh also, if the mini refresh doesn't appear soon i can see me making an impulse base spec New Mac Pro purchase

"Who?"

"Top. People."

I think Apple should make the Mini a little bit bigger, just a little bit, to make it easier to change HDD and it would also run cooler.

;)

I would love it to be a tiny bit bigger. And as cool as the Mac Pro new design is i really hope they dont make the mini either circular or most importantly tall (TC).

As media centre/server machine location for me is important. i dont want to have to run 25' HDMI cable just so that the mini can fit somewhere because it was too tall to fit in the TV stand.....

Do you hear APPLe? DONT DO IT!!! :D

I'm with you on that. It's a desktop computer, it doesn't need to be this thin. Add a little in thickness, put in a larger cooling fan, and put the hard drive where you can access it without removing the motherboard.
I know that's never going to happen. The next mac mini re-design will probably be even less serviceable than the current one.

My thoughts precisely. A half inch higher wold be fine. So stupid to have to remove logic board to put in a drive.

That said, I really think it should be all PCI SSD this next round. I am done with spinners except as external drives.

COOLER please!

the mac mini will be updated along with the mac pro because of the new TBD 27" 4K

...interesting approach!

----------

Exactly.

No new parts were revealed that would fit the Mac mini.

Of course, all parts are known. Look what is inside a new iMac and you will realize what is going to happen in a new Mac Mini.

The only question remains...when!

PS: I think they won't change the outer case.

Agreed.

I think we'll get PCI-E based SSD just like the Air, iMac and Mac Pro.

I wonder if the spare room in the case (where the optical drive used to be) could be used for the SSD so that both the 2.5 drive slots can be filled.

Would there be any technical reason why the Mac mini could not have 2 SATA ports in addition to a PCI-E based SSD slot? Cost would make this unlikely, but you just never know, that SSD slot has to go somewhere.

The current (2012) case design has no space for an optical drive.

They won't change the current case because it exactly fits two, side by side, in a 1U rack-mount space.
