Just about a month to go! We should be seeing new mini"s. New model numbers are showing up in the supply chain.

Now these could be updated mac book pros but i doubt it. They would have updated processors and besides it is too soon.

We are seeing model numbers with haswell. A dual core i5 2.4. A quad i7 2.0. And a quad i7 2.3. All with HD's. My guess would be with a pcie ssd option but we cannot see that just model numbers. Wi fi ac is also a go. :)

Where are these numbers showing up?

4258U/4750HQ/4850HQ (Iris PRO on the 2nd and 3rd!)?

I guess the big question is what GPU will be in the next mini. I am guessing the Iris 5100 but the iris pro 5200 would sure be nice. I may even consider a quad i7/4GB/512 SSD and buy aftermarket RAM over the mac pro if it has at least the iris pro.

Where are these numbers showing up?

In Apple's supply chain. New model numbers for a New Apple product. We can see the parts ordered for these model numbers. The same CPU's as the MacBook pro lineup. Same as the 2012 Mini's had the same CPU's as the 2012 Macbook Pros(the first ones). Now this is no guarantee that Mini's are coming, but according to the numbers there are no screens ordered for these machines. That is how we told the last mini's, and the Macbook pros's apart.

The Mac Pro was easier, as is the imac as we know what CPU's and GPU's they are using. The Mac Mini's and Macbook pro's share alot of parts, so the differentiation is a little more difficult.

Yes Iris Pro is a go according to these part numbers. :)

This probably means no redesigned Mini. :(

But they might surprise us. :)

That is what we are seeing. Same as the Mbp. You have to remember, Apple saves on each part by how many they order. It makes perfect business sense to share as many parts as possible to save on the amount of parts buy buying more. The more you buy the more the price goes down for each.

All businesses to this to a degree. HP, Dell, Samsung etc.

Also Apple's Mac Mini's refurb stock just went way up. Same thing happened last year. Now these parts might be a for updated MBP later for this year, but I doubt it as they do require screens. No guarantee but we are usaully right on, most of the time.:)

thanks for the info!
On the contrary I am hoping for a NON REDESIGNED MINI ;-)

Me too. I like the current form factor. Nothing wrong with it.

So they stick with a dual core version? (would have loved the quads across the whole lineup).

Hoping for exchangeable RAM and HD! (Thunderbolt 2 would be awesome too)

Like I said no guarantee these parts are even for the Mini. But since they most likely are yes no Quad in the entry level. Now Apple can change these specs at any time but since they already ordered millions of them I think not. They have once, totally threw us off with their last minute decisions. Apple is the most unpredictable tech company on the planet. They could offer a redesign with totally different processors, or same design with different processors that do not show up in the supply chain. ;)

If redesigned Mini probably not ram upgradeable would be my guess, but hopefully I am wrong. HD would be iffy too if a redesign. They are having troubles with thermals on the redesign so hopefully they go with the current design. :)

I've been eyeing the refurb stock. This must have just happened. I hope your right. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

My thought is that if this if this is a Haswell refresh in the same enclosure it will be the last refresh before everything get soldered down and non upgradeable. I would like to see the 15rMBP I72.3 with tb2 and HDMI 2.0 but probably 1.4.
I will have to order it when my wife isn't looking and do a quick swap out .:)

So first the next mini shows up in benchmarks (late last year). Then reburbs of the current model flood several countries at the same time. Then a retailer preannounces. Now new part numbers land (somewhere). The evidence is starting to approach 'preponderance' levels.

So that covers the when, which leaves us with the what. It's not been enough years with the current case to jump to a new case. But they might move production stateside, which would be cooler with a new case. They probably won't switch to PCIe without a new case.

The key question: will it be the first 4k mini or the last non 4k mini. TB2, HDMI2, better GPU/iGPU, CPU? Exciting month to be a mini fan!

Did I pull trigger too soon? Does it matter?

I had been waiting for the refresh to buy. But a few weeks ago the rumor was no refresh until the Fall, so I pulled the trigger and just got one. (I have an "allowance" through my employer for computer purchase, but I have to use it by May or I lose it. So I couldn't wait until the fall.) Now rumor is end of February. I am still within the 14 day return window. Question: Should I even bother returning it? Will I really get that much more bang for the buck with the refresh? I ordered the 2.6 quad i7 with SDD and have maxed out memory. It's pretty zippy and certainly good enough for my needs (mostly office work, browsing, occasionally some light photo and video editing of home movies). I do hold on to my computers so I like to max out what I buy to future-proof a little bit. So, should it stay or should it go?

I would return it, the new Mini will be released soon.

The i7 will have Iris Pro which is a huge step up from the HD4000, way more future-proof IMHO
Pretty sure it will also have AC-Wireless and maybe two Thunderbolt-ports, maybe they even go down with the price.

If the current one does everything you want it to now why even worry about what the next one will be like? There's always going to be something "better" "just around the corner".

The mini has already been redesigned. They are having trouble with the thermals and manufacturing. Retooling for production in the US. Some will be produced here and some in china. If they cannot get the thermals in the redesign down they most likely will go with the current form factor until they can work on a new modified design.

Reading your posts more carefully, thermal issues would rule out a Mac Pro thermal core arrangement with the new case. So probably a small square /cube.

And hopefully, the dual nation production will include more US made availability than the iMac does currently.

I really like the 2012 i7 models. Making a 2012 i7 Mini purchase was a good decision. If the Haswell models end up having the same or better CPU clocks speeds, Iris Pro graphics, the same ports and interfaces (except maybe minus Firewire 800 and adding wireless AC), the same form factor with the same upgradeability, for almost same prices and if Apple doesn't neuter the Mini from the 2012 model in some major unforeseen way then sure... why not go with a 2014 i7 model?... but that's a lot of "ifs". Haswell's primary design advantage...power savings...isn't as much of a benefit for a desktop computer. Based on what we have seen from the other Haswell based Macs with updated graphics processing the newer Haswell i7 Mini model "might" end up only benchmarking 5-15% better overall at the same clock speed. We'll see how it turns out.

From what I read last year the Haswell chips had issues with thermals that eventually led to designs with lower than anticipated clock speeds. Soldered RAM with smaller plastic form factor Minis could lower production costs, increase Apple's profit margins and enable lower retail price points. Apple has recently moved more in the direction of lower cost marketing with the 5c iPhones but change doesn't always benefit the consumer. I doubt these types of changes would excite the hard core Mini enthusiasts.

Could you provide the link to the info please
Sorry. Can 't do that. I would my lose business.

Besides there is no "link " to the info. I own and operate a marketing firm. I am a marketing analyist with direct links to Apples supply chain. Most know who i am if i told you my name as it has been mentioned on various sites before and my company is contracted with a few others but mostly i try to fly under the radar so to speak on here.

I can have complete anatomy on here as most just ignore what each other posts on here anyway. I was very active on howardforums before my contracts forbid me to post on there any further. We are more active in mobile than the pc market but we predicted the current mobile landscape to a "t " seven years ago. Reading my posts on howard forums reads like a post from nostradumus.

I have a few on here as well but most are luckly for me "forgotten" and just piled into the rest.

Just so you don't think i am a random poster on this forum with no credibility.
Got in trouble already on this one and lost a contract. So no harm in putting it here twice. Even got the prices right on the 1 tb SSD , to a "t". They were $600 in 2013, and prices did fall as predicted by my firm. Apple did use a hybrid approach but not standard. Ssd was standard on the retina macbook line in 2012 not the imacs.

Intel announced nine mobile cpus today, I would hope the parts you saw were for the current Macbook. I would expect the mac mini to have the most recent processor since it's been expected for more than 18 months. Apple probably had those CPU a few months back.

I don't think we will see the mini until WWDC (June). Normally numbers appear in advance in Geekbench and there is nothing so far.

Its possible. If not soon we predicted in june as well for a redesign or update.its going to happen soon or in june.

I'm still hoping Broadwell in June. It would make the Mini up to date for another 1 1/2 year cycle. The only thing about Broadwell is it will in all likelihood be PCI and unlikely user upgradable or limit user upgradeability.
