I'm still hoping Broadwell in June. It would make the Mini up to date for another 1 1/2 year cycle. The only thing about Broadwell is it will in all likelihood be PCI and unlikely user upgradable or limit user upgradeability.

I saw an article this week saying Broadwell was delayed a little bit. They're still aiming end of Q2 but I don't see Apple using them short term. I would not be surprised to see them in late Q3 products.

I would easily wait for it. Hasswell is last years chip. Although I know I read an article that Broadwell desktop chips would not be ready until late Q3 or Q4.

Its possible. If not soon we predicted in june as well for a redesign or update.its going to happen soon or in june.

I don't like speculation that much but I would think they are not going for a simple refresh. They could have done it last year already.

I'm not excited about a smaller mini. I'm sure this will end up like the macPro. A very small box with only flash storage.

bad news, the belgian website put the links to the haswell-minis down!!!

maybe it was all a fake and the site just wanted to get more views :(

I really hope, that apple releases a updated mini soon, hopefully no redesign with soldered ram and hard drive

don't rely on web pages for mac news. The first sign of REAL products will be that retail store will have new model numbers in their database. Until that point, don't expect any new mac products (mini, macbook, imac) to be released.

Be patient young padawan!

well I'm sure that they will go with flash storage across all computers, it's a question of time. Everything will end up the size of a small cigarette pack.
Absolutely, but the question is whether now is the right time. While I could see Apple switching PCI Flash modules for the next Mac Mini for consistency, I'm not sure about them dropping other internal storage completely, as it's still the most cost effective option.

So I'm hoping the next Mac Mini still has room for a 2.5" drive, even if only fairly slim ones, in addition to PCIe flash storage for an SSD or Fusion Drive option. Otherwise it'll be far too expensive for an entry level machine.

I don't think they will do it now.. the mini must remain at the cheap price point. I think they will move to full ssd in 2 years. I also think they will keep thunderbolt v1 port to keep the price low.

My bet is smaller case, no firewire, TB1, 4xUSB3, audio out-in, displayport/hdmi. I'm sure they will drop the 'server' configuration and only have room for one drive (or 1x drive + pciE storage).

If they drop the server option they my as well not produce them at all. There will not be enough consumer sales without the server sales to justify the development and production costs. When the server business dies the mini dies.:(

I don't think it will die.. you could still have PCIe flash + ssd drive in raid 0/1 (with lower capacity) or later on, double SSDs like the MacPro. Any SERIOUS file serving will be done or external arrays anyway (RAID 5,6,10). Non-Apple servers normally have boot disks with external storage. They will reduce the footprint for the look and reduce functionality like they normally do. They want cute and efficient machines.

The mini is the only alternative to cheaper PC, I think it's here to stay. I may get one at some point.

The biggest protestation would be to boycott their products but they are selling like hot cakes..

PAIN in the neck: Mac Mini

My chiropractor tells me my neck pain is because I switched from my desktop windows 8 (which I hate) pc to my macbook pro (which I love):

I went from using a computer at a desk with proper posture, to on the love-seat, hunched over my macbook.

Stupidly, and briefly, I entertained upgrading my monitor to one with dual inputs so I could connect my macbook to it at my desk.

However, upon further though, instead of spending $200-$300 for a good monitor, I'll just get an entry level mac mini and simply stop using the windows 8 which I really hate.

So, this is now a matter of life & death (ok, a bit dramatic).

QUESTION:

So, based on all the latest rumors and thoughts, WHEN WHEN WHEN will the new mini's be ready? I though I read it was imminent but then something else about the new chipsets being delayed by a further quarter.

Thanks. I'm getting really excited about my new mac mini and to finally say goodbye to windows 8.1 !!!

Mike

latest rumors point to an end februar release.

I think what you mean with the delayed chipset is intel broadwell.

very soon
I contacted computerstore.be and they said end February at latest
My English was misunderstood so end February got quoted
Anyhow all shops worldwide are running out of mac mini's...

So if the new mini does arrive in Feb, will the price increase do you think? How much increase are we talking do you think?

no one know when it will be out and no one knows what it will be. The question is useless, no one knows. It's normally the same price, years after years. This is the only fact!

There are two schools of thought. School 1 says that minis always get the last updates to whatever the next tech is. Under this, the mini is getting the processor that the other models got last year. As parts already exist, it's in apples control when to release them. Most bets are on next month.

School 2 says the mini is no longer the black sheep and being held back because intel is working on a new chip that all models will move to this year. This would be an unprecedented double generation chip upgrade and represent major new love for our favorite little box.

Complicating matters is apples overall movement toward smaller and faster, including PCIe. Based on what I've read here, I believe both are mostly correct. That the current box will be updated soon, with limited changes and that a bigger change (read: form factor + unreleased chip set) is due next year.

So if the new mini does arrive in Feb, will the price increase do you think? How much increase are we talking do you think?

The only thing likely to bump the price this time around is mandatory SSD. If the base remains 2 core + HDD, the price should hold. The next case will likely ditch HDD, making a price bump more likely.

If I had to guess I'd say they don't increase the price.
First, they increased it in many countries in September
Second, they put more expensive chips into both the 2013 MBA and 13" rMBP while maintaining or even lowering the price.

Apple is good in using similar parts across the lineup, so they can order giant amounts and keep the price down.
