yep

c'mon Apple, store down for hours just for some small Valentine's day decoration? what a joke

valentine

As I've been single for 7 years now I'd gladly spend my money on the new mini. It's not like I'll have a female date. PLEASE LET ME DATE THE NEW MINI THE 14TH (or is val 24th? don't know anymore)

Make sure to take your medication also!

if you want to date a sexy imac 2008 instead, let me know! :D

So frustrating…

I need two Mac Mini servers, but can't find the right motivation to buy the current and outdated model. Dual Thunderbolt ports would be really nice, I just wish they would match connectivity specs with the Macbook Pro.

Hopefully predictions of next month are accurate. If it slips much beyond that, they should then just skip Haswell and go straight to Broadwell later this year or early next year. I'm guessing that is what's going to happen if we don't see a new mini by the end of February. And they could be skipping a generation. Haswell offers little in terms of performance. They may be going for a re-design. Hopefully the RAM stays upgradeable, PCIe flash storage would be great if they can keep it affordable.

I want the latest - even if it kills me !!!

Mike, i don't know what you plan to use the Mac mini FOR, but if you are not doing anything super-intensive processing-wise, i would NOT wait. OK, maybe give it till the end of February to see if this latest rumor is true, but if not, you should just jump in.

Your health is WAY more important, don't you think?

In my case, i wanted to switch to the mini last JULY, and a "knowledgeable source" told me that the refresh was coming "by the end of August, FOR SURE". That was 6-7 months ago, and he's STILL wrong. So, i waited until December. Finally, i could wait no longer and i jumped in (my PC is on its last legs). I did the SSD upgrade, upgraded the RAM to the max and moved the shipped drive to be the second drive (in other words, "the standard upgrade"). I am VERY pleased, my Mini runs MUCH faster, and i am MUCH happier.

My point is that your health is more important. If you look at all the rumors, no one is really saying that the rumored new version will be much more (or any) more powerful, in terms of processing power. It will just be more energy efficient. If you are not doing something super-intense from a processing standpoint, the current mini will do you JUUUUUST fine.

It is working great for me, but i upgraded mine (and you should too). If another mini appeared tomorrow, i would not be bummed about my decision, i would buy a second machine! :D

Those are my thoughts, don't compromise your health just to have "the latest and greatest". ;)
cheers,
jim.

Thanks for your concern Jim (very kind).

I think I can wait a few months. It won't kill me. I'll just have to be more aware of posture, and put it on my desk and sit like an adult, not like a lounging college kid on the love seat!

:)
Mike

I haven't been following Mac Mini rumors, but what's the consensus here concerning graphics and the number of display ports? Regular Iris graphics or Iris Pro graphics? As for the graphics, is it possible to see two Thunderbolt ports and still retain the HDMI port? So the Mac Mini could support two 2560x1440 displays and a 1920x1200 out of HDMI like the 13" rMBP.

I doubt it. The latest iMac 2013 have one TB 1.0. I'm almost sure they will do the same thing for the mini and let the MacPro be the only choice when you require more. I'm sure they will keep the hdmi because it's a cheap way to connect (people already have cables).

The mini is powerful, I'm sure they want to keep a good distance between the two. For three screen setup, the iMac can make sense also.

I don't have any official insights, it's only an opinion

The latest iMac has two TB ports, they've had two since the 2011 models. My question is whether it seems possible that the Mac Mini will also have two TB ports regardless of if it's TB 1.0 or 2.0.

I guess it will depend on the logic board they will put together.

Maybe they get rid of the FireWire and put another Thunderbolt?

I think if the Mini takes till June or latter for redesign it will be Broadwell PCI with TB2 2 ports, 1.4 HDMI no FW and may or not be user upgraded on HD. The ram may have access to upgrade. TB2 will be more beneficial if the server option is still offered. If the Mini is refreshed before then it probably will remain in the same enclosure with Hasswel and 2 TB1 ports and no FW. 4 USB 3.0 will remain on either with 1.4 HDMI.

I knew that, I was so focused on the TB 1.0 port that I wrote one TB instead of two TB 1.. sorry my mistake..

I'm sure the mini will have only one TB port + hdmi. Not even sure they will try to put 2.0 since it's their low-end box. It will have wireless AC for sure.

sorry for the confusion

I think were past low end anymore in the Mac lineup. I mean if you look at the capabilities of Intel CPU/GPU performance it's amazing how far what use to be low end has came. TB2 is the standard for new Macs now and all of them will have it. The Mini is based on Macbook Pros and we will see the move to PCI in the Mini if it survives. They will move to SSD and probably blades as in the MacBooks.
They may leave us access to ram but it would be easier to solder it in as the Macbook. If you need more storage it will be the same as the Pros with a move to TB2 externals. Just my opinion but I don't see keeping a outdated components for our little friend.

That's what I'm guessing. Though if they upgrade the hdmi, we won't need two TB ports to drive two 2560 screens. And I believe two TB displays are already supported. So if we get it all, there will three options for dual 2560 support!

Well I hope they at least keep the dual drive option because I was thinking about RAID 0-ing two Crucial M500 960GB ssd's for super performance and of course massive internal storage.

But seeing as how the Mac Pro now pretty much relies on external storage I expect the worst. I suspect the Mac mini will keep the current form factor but with internals that match the rMBP.

On the other hand, PCI flash would put a hefty price on the mini so logic would dictate there must be a SATA offering for the base model at least.

Aaaargh too many variables. Apple just release the damn thing already!

I'm now thinking that Apple's newfound love of the Apple TV - as evidenced by the product's new placement in their online store - will ultimately lead to a media event wherein the new Apple TV and Mac Mini are unveiled.

Im hoping its just a minor refresh with Haswell CPU's, ac WiFi, and 2x TB2 ports. Its the cheapest Mac yet still very powerful and upgradable.
