Thank you

richardmu, thank you for posting this information as you promised yesterday.

(TidyWorks also suggested that at the beginning), so if I disable the DP 1.2 and force RGB as jlus3 suggested (I also found this link http://embdev.net/topic/284710#3027030) I will be happy with the monitor which I ordered? No blurry text and the picture quality will be as good as connecting it to every other computer? If that's the case I am already calm...

I chose this monitor exactly for the same things:
PWM free, IPS, Good price and t's new

Thank you guys for all your time, effort and suggestions.

We received some U2414H into the office today. No issues with connecting to 1.1 DP devices.

It appears the monitor auto disabled the 1.2 when it detected 1.1.

The 1.2 was disabled when I checked. The Dell support guy asked me to enable it, but it made no difference so I' ve set it all back to factory settings.

I am very tempted to keep it and run via HDMI. Apple informed me it is equivalent to using DP, so no downside. Not sure I really care what the reason is that the DP connection doesn't work.

It's a neat little monitor and I really like the fact that you can adjust the height and it swivels and tilts with ease.

Problem is that it looks quite small because of the almost non-existent bezel! I had to measure it against my 24" TV to prove to myself that it was the same size display area.

Highly recommended so far even with the DP issue.

Very odd, we've had no issues with a range of Apple products from all years.

Unfortunately I can't suggest anything apart from what you've tried.

richardmu, I am just curious (because I am really new to all things connected to apple) if there is no even little difference of the quality of the picture between DP and HDMI why you would like to use DP? And not only in this case what is special about DP over HDMI?

I am quite happy to use HDMI. Others on the forum may correct me but I believe there is no difference in display quality between the two.

HDMI has always in the past been associated with audio/video applications but recently it is almost accepted as the norm for computer to monitor connections. I believe there are now different categories of HDMI cable to cater for very high resolution displays.

The only reason I would like to see it working on my new monitor is that if in the future I sell it on can honestly say I have seen the mini-DP to DP connection working. Some people may want or need that for whatever reason.

After discussing my latest purchase and the DP issue with my wife over dinner with a glass or two of wine she has offered the following advice. If it works okay with this HDMI thing then why are you fretting about the DP connection that doesn't work. Good point, I'll keep it and enjoy!

One other thing that I hadn't considered was that my Apple TV (2nd generation) doesn't work with the monitor. I can see all the menus etc perfectly but the WiFi connection to the iTunes Store doesn't work. So the Sony Bravia will not be going on eBay!

hdmi doesn't support 2560x1440... the ultrasharp dell u2713h does

His advice doesn't seem sensible if it is just a switch that determines the protocol used. Displayport 1.2 isn't supported on the mini. It is supported on the newest (late 2013) rmbp and the nMP. It may be supported on the mini once it's updated. The mini would have to gain thunderbolt 2 to support it.

Ok, I bought the Dell P2414H. Friend of mine tell me that if I use HDMI -> DVI I should force the RGB and instead it's better to use Thunderbolt(Mini DP) -> DisplayPort adapter cable (http://eu.startech.com/Cables/Audio-...Male~MDP2DPMM6). Is that true?

Just ordered one of these StarTech cables from Amazon. I have been very happy running the monitor with HDMI but I am still curious as to why the Dell supplied cable did not work.

The StarTech site specifically says it will work with Apple TB ports so we shall see. Only just over £6 delivered so worth a try.

I ordered the same cable from a guy from my local area but it's not here yet so when I try it I will post the result. He said that he is using the same cable and everything is just fine.

Got the cable today. No change, still no signal. Not sure what do do now. Try and return the cable to Amazon and carry on using HDMI I guess!

you must change the input to disPlayport using screen controls

I picked up a U2414H yesterday and it came with Displayport 1.2 disabled by default. I ran the ruby script as suggested here to force RGB mode. I wasn't 100% happy with the results, so I found an update of the same script on GitHub patch-edid.rb copied this into a new file and ran the script again, now it works like charm. :D

I received my dual U2414H last week also, plugged into the Mini and both the one connected with displayport and the one with HDMI are recognized as TV in OS X. The HDMI one is definitely using YCbCr (limited range) with the displayport is on RGB full range.

And interestingly, I solved this by using the very first patch script from embdev. I tried running the modified script from github because I want different profile names for each display but this script cam never produce an ASCII EDID for me (somehow the encoding is screwed in running the script).

Right now the two U2414Hs are being fed with identical signals, but the out of factory grey points are a bit off from each other, so one is more green and the other is more magenta. Some tuning in custom RGB values in the display menus "solved" this. But I will borrow a calibrator from a friend later to do a real fix.

The only problem now is that after reboot, the monitor connected via displayport sometimes would not show up, I have to turn it off and on to get it recognized by OS X at all. Not sure if it was caused or have anything to do with the EDID override, but I never shutdown my Mini anyway.
