I had the u2711 myself. It worked like a charm on my pc. Then I hooked it up to my mac mini. Worked fine too.

Via mDP to DP on your Mac Mini? Count yourself lucky!

I believe you, but most assuredly there was a real issue that Dell never resolved. In fact, I almost bit the bullet on a 30" significantly newer Dell (U3014) prior to buying the ATB, but learned from a number of sources that these models were also having issues with DP, eek! Killed my interest certainly.

One of the threads on HardOCP reached ridiculous lengths, multiple posters detailing certain DP leads from Monoprice or some other outlet that worked a charm.....only for said posters to reappear a week or two later plagued with power cycling issues. I shudder to think how much effort I expended trying to fix the problem, crikey, and I recall people attempting returns to Dell and getting inconsistent results.

Some got it returned to them with "no fault found", only for the problem to re-emerge within 24 hours.

Some got it returned to them saying "fixed!"....only for the problem to re-emerge within 24 hours.

Some got it returned to them saying "sorry, there is no fix, here's your faulty monitor back". Translation - "get to ****".

Quite pathetic state of affairs, Dell ultimately didn't have a clue and wouldn't acknowledge the issue to warrant a full return/exchange.

What compounded the issue for me was the terrible (official!) Apple MDP to Dual-Link DVI adaptor I bought to negate the issue. This was not some small dongle like convertor, but a USB powered active Adaptor. Badly manufactured, expensive (£70ish), faulty and it ran HOT! Try reading some reviews of it, or even a search of MacRumors forums, that's another very shaky purchase in my history. This wasn't the Dell's fault, but a fault with the Apple adaptor itself.

In hindsight, I think it was all related to DisplayPort itself not being being absolutely ratified and locked down at the manufacturing stage at the time.

Was a fine monitor for PC use though, via Dual-Link DVI. As said previously, sold it when I bought the ASUS ROG Swift g-Sync monitor.

Well it worked fine here. Now it's working fine with my U2713h now. Truly never had a problem. Perhaps I got lucky for once :)

Has anyone managed to actually find a proper fix for this? I have an rMBP with this monitor and am so tired of it looking like garbage, and not being able to actually adjust the resolution beyond "1080p". WTF!?

Both Mac mini and new Mac Pro are now working perfectly over the min-DP to DP Dell cable that came with the monitor!

I didn't do anything except pull out all cables from all devices and start with the power cord and DP cable only connected to both the nMP and the monitor as a final check before taking both down to the genius bar and letting them take a look at the problem. Hey presto, perfect display. Tried the same with the mini and same result. Interesting I thought...

I was searching for a solution for this issue and this is was the answer for me too!!
Disconnect all cables and connect only the DP cable and then power cable.
It works!
I did not work before when I tried the power cycle without removing the HDMI first.
Dont understand why, but it works now!

Well, got a U2414H today and hooked it up to my 2011 Mac Mini via the supplied min-DP - DP cable and worked like a charm. I had a Windows laptop hooked up to one of the HDMI connections and had been using that for a few hours.
When I came to change the input back to DisplayPort I got the message saying it was entering Power Saving Mode (this is distinct from the message you get when no cable is present) - so it knew there was a connection between Mac Mini and monitor but simply will not show any display.
I pulled out the power cable, and reseated it. Pulled out the HDMI and DisplayPort and plugged just DP back in - still same - Entering Sleep Mode.
I've now connected the Mini via a mini-DP to HDMI dongle and that's working just fine... so far!
the DP setting for 1.2 was disabled on the monitor.

Will the DP port ever come back to life for me?? Really bizarre thing to happen!

YOU SAVED MY LIFE

Turn off your monitor
Unplug all inputs cabling from the monitor
Turn on the monitor
Press the menu button
Press the Check OK button (3rd from left) and hold for 15 seconds
Then disable DP 1.2

Should now work with 1.1
