Of course any HDMI is backward compatible. An HDMI 1.4 works on a HDMI 2.0 output. In fact, any digital connection works with the Mac and the correct adapter/cable.
Yes, that's what I said to the Apple guy on the phone. He emphatically stated that that wasn't true for the M1 and I would have to find an HDMI 2.0 monitor. . . . thus my disgust. Thankfully, the Apple guy at BestBuy assured me that the backward compatibility applied to the M1 as well. I think the issue was my old monitor used a DVI to HDMI adapter (from Apple, but older) and it was that ADAPTER that wouldn't work with the new HDMI port . . . for whatever reason. Still a bit unclear on that part, but happy with how things ended up . . . Just would have liked to get more accurate info from Apple to begin with!!

Hi, I'm new to this forum but have been following for a while. Wanted to help by giving my monitor that works with the Mac mini M1 but I can't seem to edit the Wikipost.
The monitor is a Philips 278E1A 27" 4K connected with Thunderbolt/USB-C to DisplayPort. Resolution scaled at 3008 x 1692. Very crisp image, nice colours, smooth screen surface and no problems with waking after sleep.
I use this cable: Thunderbolt 3/USB-C to DisplayPort cable

Hi!
for me ( I'm new with Mac Mini M1 ) I've got a IIYAMA G2530HSU-B1 ( not too expensive !!) and connected it HDMI/HDMI with my very new mac Mini M1.
All is perfect for me.

LG 27UL850-W works well. Use either the HDMI or USB-C Port.

I have

Brand = ViewSonic
Model = VG2455 1080p Display 24-inch (1920 × 1080)
Interface connected = USB-C to USB-C
Cable = USB-C to USB-C (Came with the monitor)
Adapter Used = None
Issues = None
Notes = I love the extra USB-3 ports it provides from the single USB-C cable. I can also hook my Raspberry Pi to the HDMI port and switch between the two systems. Not an expensive monitor but it does what I need it to do.
Nctraveler----- I have been searching for three weeks for a monitor compatible with my new M1 mac mini that fits my budget and my office space. This ViewSonic model caught my attention. I would prefer having two HDMI ports but has this been a problem for you? -- Capt Frank

Perhaps you can add info with respect to whether the monitor is running at 4k@30 vs 4k at 60 or 5k@... etc. Some success might only be up to 30Hz.

here my new 4K HDR 10 LG 31” computer monitor this thing is big but the computer monitor is vary nic looking the only thing now I need to do is order my Mac mini M1

The following does NOT work well with a Mac Mini M1 16gb/1tb:
Dell U2713H (2014 vintage) HDMI to HDMI connection. 2560x1440 resolution.
Inconsistent and unreliable wake ups following sleep. Once it is awake and displaying something it works fine, but getting to that point is frustrating. Tried multiple HDMI cables, reset factory settings, ticket with Apple Support.
USB-C to DisplayPort cable on order for a last-ditch attempt.
Monitor works fine with a $35 Raspberry Pi and Lenovo Thinkpad using HDMI. Shame on you Apple.

Update 21-03-04: Tried using the Monitor's DisplayPort input and this USB-C to DisplayPort cable:

Unfortunately, the Monitor did not wake up at all following sleep when using it.
Looks like my options are purchasing a new monitor or returning the Mac Mini M1.

Do you work for Apple? That is the response I would expect from them. Nothing wrong with my monitor for my intended purposes. Why can't Apple engineer a proper HDMI interface? I'll bet one of the $5.00 Raspberry Pi Zeros I have would not have any problem with this monitor. Maybe I should make a YouTube comparison video :).

What. not be rude or be a smarty pants now am just trying to help like any one else on here would and it was just a idea

DELL P2419H HDMI / HDMI. Works great.
I've used exactly the same monitor for 6 months. No issues on Win 10.

I got MBA M1 and tried to use Kingston Nucleum hub's HDMI - HDMI connection.

Texts are extremely blurry/fuzzy on mine! I can't even work on my monitor that's why I've been thinking to buy a new one.

What's your hub? Do you have any specific suggestion(s)?

No hub, very crisp as well on my W-10 workstation, a little blurry on my M1. I did change the font smoothing in the terminal which seemed to have helped.
