Hi all,

Today I got myself a new monitor (Dell U2520D) to use in the home office.
Before using it in the home office I decided to hook it up to the MacMini M1. As expected it ran in YPbPr, connected with the Dell supplied USB C cable. Tried hooking it up to the Caldigit TS3 via Displayport = same result.
Also tried running it via HDMI where Big Sur recognized the monitor as 4K so I had to scale it down but still the same problem.

Then I remembered having an unused USB C cable and gave it a try = RGBINGO!

Smart HDR is on, haven't tried it without it yet.
It's a cheap one and can be found on Amazon, see link below.

Dell P2415Q runs just fine with a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. HiDPI mode looking great, too.

What is the color format reported on OSD menu. I have the same monitor and USB-C to DP cable and color format is reported as YPbPr, colors look fine.

I tried with the exact same cable on my Dell U3419W to check if this could give me RGB. Unfortunately it didn´t, still YPbPr.

Strange :(, the one I had was 1 m / +- 3 feet and a bit short so ordered a 2m / 6 feet long cable. This one also works in RGB.

From what I can tell, the U3419W is 10bit and the U2520D is 8bit. My P3421W (10bit) runs YPbPr on every cable I've tried, my P2419H (8bit panel) will run in RGB with a USB-C to DP cable. Wonder if the issue is related to the colour depth of the panel?

Interesting theory. I am no expert in these matters, but e.g. the LG Ultrafine monitors, which are supposed to mostly work good with the mac minis even though misc issues are reported for these as well, are all 10 bit after what I understand, so it would have to be in combination with something else. The U3419W jump straight to RGB mode with the windows laptops I have tried btw.

I've got a flickering issue on Macbook Air M1 connected to Dell p2721q 4k monitor.
The monitor is connected using Usb C <-> Usb C cable.
Once it starts i've to disconnect the monitor for a few minutes to get rid of flickering.
Sometimes flickering stays for some time even if I connect the monitor to Dell (Windows) laptop, although it never starts on a Windows laptop.
I'm really curious what is the cause ? Is it Monitor, Mac or both ?

Just got a new Mac Mini M1 for use at work on text documents and spreadsheets. I want dual 24” 1920 x 1200 16:10 monitors. I’m choosing between ASUS ProArt Display PA248QV ($200) and Dell UltraSharp U2421E ($400). The ASUS does not have a USB-C port. Is that a problem? Thanks.

I just saw the Dell C2722DE that has a built-in camera and speakers. The camera pops up. I wonder if this is compatible with the Mac Mini. It looks like the perfect monitor for my situation.

Yea, that's pretty thin. It would obscure some of the video.

I ended up ordering a Dell 34" curved monitor. Was going to get a 4K monitor, but I primarily use for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chrome, etc. and don't do much photo editing. So for me, a 4K monitor would be overkill.

Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor - U3421WE

Hopefully this has enough space for the mount. If not, I'll have to do some engineering. :) I like that the monitor has built-in speakers.

I've used exactly the same monitor for 6 months. No issues on Win 10.

I got MBA M1 and tried to use Kingston Nucleum hub's HDMI - HDMI connection.

Texts are extremely blurry/fuzzy on mine! I can't even work on my monitor that's why I've been thinking to buy a new one.

What's your hub? Do you have any specific suggestion(s)?
Please let me know what you find out. I, too, have the MBA M1 and need to get a monitor to replace my old 2009 iMac. I do not do graphics/photos but do need to have clearly readable text so this is a concern of mine as well.

Update on my LG 27UL850-W. I do occasionally find that the monitor doesn't wake from sleep, but disconnecting and reconnecting the USB-C connector in the monitor usually fixes it. Not a deal-breaker, but a minor irritant.

Oh man, I just hooked up my Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved USB-C Hub Monitor (U3421WE). This thing is amazing! Love the huge screen. Speakers are OK, but not the greatest. May purchase some Logitech speakers to go with it.

The only problem I have is that I can't control the volume of the monitor with macOS. I would like to set the monitor at a pretty high volume and then use the sound bar in macOS to adjust the volume sent to the monitor. Even iOS allows you to adjust the volume when things are connected.

Maybe I'm overlooking how to adjust it.

EDIT: For some reason, it just appeared. I clicked the macOS 11.2.3 control center menu icon and it was available for me to adjust the volume. Absolutely loving this monitor! Some people want 4/5/8K, I just want real estate so I can work with multiple windows/apps at the same time.

Successfully running two Lenovo ThinkVision S28u-10 UHD monitors on my Mac Mini M1 16gb/1tb.
One connected directly using HDMI.
The second connected to a CalDigit TS3 Plus using DisplayPort.
Got them on sale for $232.20 each. Hard to beat.
No wakeup issues yet after three days of usage.

So the speaker volume changed back to the original mode -- doesn't allow any changes from macOS.

I've also been using the monitor with my MacBook Air M1. I have a SonnetTech Thunderbolt 3 SFP+ adapter that I plug into the Mac Mini or the MacBook Air. With the MacBook Air, I have USB-C from the monitor set to deliver power and will hook up the SonnetTech adapter directly to the computer's other USB-C/Thunderbolt slot.

With this setup, if I awaken the laptop/monitor from sleep, I get a constant rapid beeping noise from the monitor. It only seems to be present when the adapter is in the mix. My setup is probably not that common, so it'll be hard to diagnose what is causing it. Dell simply said "it's a Mac issue, contact Apple." Very helpful indeed.

Please can someone suggest a monitor, 27 or thereabouts, that I can use with a new mini I am to purchase as my "home" machine, but leaving a USB-C connection free for my work Air? Ideally monitor can swap between the two. Good resolution please. 4K?

I had a 27" iMac since 2011, and I was waiting for the new large M1 or M2 iMac to upgrade mine. Unfortunately, mine stopped working two weeks ago, and Apple only launched the 24" version of the new iMac. I just bought a new Mac Mini, and I'm looking for a bigger than 27 inches 4K monitor that fits well.

First, I've taken a look at the Apple Store. The XDR is too expensive for me, and the only alternative is the 24" LG 24MD4KL-B, which I find small. Then, I searched for a larger version of the latter, and I found the LG 32BL95U-W. Has anyone tried it? It has a thunderbolt connection, which seems to be a good indication of good compatibility with M1. https://www.lg.com/us/business/desktop-monitors/lg-32BL95U-W.

My second option is the 32" Dell U3219Q. It has been tested by two users here, @Mistercharlie and @Donza.

Finally, I'm starting to open my mind to the curved ones. @southerndoc bought the Dell U3421WE. I wonder if the connections to the Mac mini are all stable at this point. I've found a larger version for this Dell UltraSharp that is 4K: U4021QW. It even has a Thunderbolt connection. The only caveat is the price at $1.6k.

Any opinions on these options?

I have yet to see anyone confirm they get a RGB color format on the Dell 34 ultra wides (U3417, U3419, U3421), by checking the Dell OSD menu. Until then I would shy away from those models. I got a U3417 myself, it is excellent for productivity on my windows laptop I have to use for work, however I would have preferred increased PPI and RGB color profile for my mac mini.

This is a decent cheap UHD 4k monitor that goes on sale for different amounts almost every week:

I recently paid $232.20 each for two of these. It has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. The stand is not great. I am using both with a Mac Mini M1. One using HDMI and one using DisplayPort via a dock. It seems likely, although I have not tried it, that you could switch between the HDMI and DisplayPort inputs connected to different computers. In your case you would need a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter to connect your Air.

The Lenovo L28u-30 is very similar. I believe it is the same panel although the on-screen menus are different. I also have two of those purchased at $245 on Black Friday and around $258 earlier this year. The recent sales on this model have not been as good. One could easily pay two or three times as much for a UHD 4k monitor, but unless you need absolute color precision or have other special requirements (like >60hz refresh rate, or being able to daisy chain), it may not be worth it.

I've tried two monitors with my M1 Mac Mini:
  1. Dell S3221QS 32" 4K had nothing but problems. Over USB-C to DisplayPort, experienced intermittent blackouts — four seconds on, two seconds off in a repeating pattern — whenever I woke from sleep (I could usually get this to stop after unplugging and replugging a few times, but not always). Over HDMI and USB-C to DisplayPort, experienced extreme screen flickering during everyday use, whether it was watching videos or doing something simple like scrolling through a webpage. Returned.
  2. Replaced with an Asus TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B 34" ultrawide. Absolutely no problems either over USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI, and able to select 100Hz in Display settings. Kept and very happy with the purchase.
