Just added the BenQ EX3501R monitor. Everything works at is should, including USB-C connection, HDMI connection, USB hubs, speakers and sleep/wake. The monitor's resolution is 3440x1440 and works at native resolution with no issues.

I use the monitor over a single USB-C cable to carry image, audio and data. I then use the monitor in 100Hz which allows me to use the USB hub as a USB 2.0 hub. My speakers are connected to the monitor's output (there is built in speakers but they're barely any better than the Mac mini's built in speaker).

You can opt to use the USB ports in USB 3.0 mode, although you will either need to set to monitor to 60Hz mode, or use the included UBC-A to USB-B cable (taking up two ports on the Mac mini). You can also use the HDMI cable but if I recall that only gave me 60Hz at 3440x1440.

macoS 11.3 which was released yesterday seems to have fixed my monitor wake issues. Before the update, I had to power cycle my monitor. Now the monitor wakes up when I press a key on my Apple extended magic keyboard.

I have Mac mini M1 (16GB/1TB model) and it s connected over USB-C to an

LG 27 inch Ergo IPS UHD 4K Ultrafine Monitor, Black, 27BN88U-B

Please can someone suggest a monitor, 27 or thereabouts, that I can use with a new mini I am to purchase as my "home" machine, but leaving a USB-C connection free for my work Air? Ideally monitor can swap between the two. Good resolution please. 4K?
Philips 27” 4K 278E1A (or the same panel but different stand and no speakers Philips 276E8VJSB).
It works perfectly with Apple Mac Mini M1 over USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI-HDMI.
It has over 99% sRGB colour accuracy.
Scaled to 2560x1440 text is as sharp as you can get.

What is output color format - RGB or YPbPr? And how are the speakers sound like - good, poor?

In Apple -System - Graphics info it says RGB. The speakers are just about good enough for a video call or a short instructional YouTube video but the sound is not fantastic and certainly not for music.

Thanks, good to know about speakers. May I ask you for color information from monitor OSD menu, if present.

Anyone here got Dell U2518D working in RGB mode at 2560x1440 native resolution on M1 Mini?
I'm planning to get Mini and some generic USB-C to DP cable and use it with my current U2518D. As far as I know U2518D only support DP 1.2 but that shouldn't be a problem or is it?
Also is it possible to use Night Shift on any monitor?

The OSD of the display doesn’t give that info. It just says 3840x2160@60Hz. But I calibrated the screen in sRGB.

I don’t have a Dell display but a Philips display with DP 1.2 and works without problems. Night shift is possible but I prefer changing the settings to Low Blue Light mode in the OSD of the display.

Just got my M1 Mini and testing it with my U2518D using generic USB-C to DP cable. My monitor reports YPbPr in menu. Not sure where to check in MacOS what it is actually feeding but I know my monitor using either of my Windows machines (one is HDMI and other DP) and they both say RGB in Dell menu, so something weird with M1 Mini.

I'm using default scaling some it should be giving me 2560x1440 resolution and font looks blurry. I disabled font smoothing (set to 0) and it is sharper but it still does not look sharp like in Windows. Just wondering if my expectations are just wrong, or does MacOS font look as sharp as in Windows when feeding native resolution to 2560x1440 (2k) monitor?

I ran color subsampling test pattern and at least my U2518D seem to resolve 4:4:4 pattern even in YPbPr mode and in display settings it does not offer me video resolutions like 1080p, 1080i but it gives 2560x1440, 1920x1080 and so on all the way down to 1280x720. So wondering if it would make any difference if I got it running in RGB instead of YPbPr?

I managed get my U2518D and M1 Mini working in RGB mode (using generic USB-C to DP cable)!!!!!
Still it does drop to YPbPr mode if power off and on cycle is made but even still simple reboot reverts it back to RGB mode. Also it stays in RGB mode if using just sleep mode even if powering off monitor during it.
I'm not sure what fixed issue because I installed 11.3.1 OS update and it stayed YPbPr, but I then tested HDMI to HDMI cable only to find out it stay in YPbPr mode with it too and then eventually put back USB-C to DP cable and notice it was in RGB mode.

However there is no major difference between RGB and YPbPr, both resolve full chroma (typical subsampling test shows 4:4:4). Only thing is there is slight difference in colors and brightness but still both resolve also 0-255, so it seems like color profile OS uses is just a bit different even both cases it shows U2518D as color profile. Only difference is that it also offers some SM 170 (can't remember exactly) profile too which is even darker when it is in YPbPr mode.

Anyway, looks like U2518D is usable combination with M1 Mini. Font issue I mentioned, I suspect my expectation were wrong, I thought MacOS fonts would look the same as Windows fonts when running 2560x1440 monitor at native resolution. Obviously MacOS does some font smoothing, even I used terminal command to turn font smoothing to 0. This setting obviously made fonts looks less fuzzy. Anyway I guess this monitor could be added on the first page list with following mentioned "features" using RGB. So to sum up M1 Mini USB-C port > USB-C to DP generic cable > U2518D DP port offers native 2560x1440 resolution in RGB mode.

I am using a Samsung 4k TV which worked perfectly with 16" MBP and a Windows machine. Getting the same fuzzy graphics with the M1 mini using either HDMI or USB C to HDMI. Is it because it reports my Mac is connected to a Television and it displays YPbPr for compatibility? Very frustrating as it displays such a lovely image on all other machines.

I got my Mac Mini M1 today. I have an AOC U32U1 32” 4K Display. I connected it with the USB-C -> USB-C cable that came along with it. It works perfectly. Fonts look amazing, colors are great. It has some screen foil (that you MUST NOT) remove. It is a great display for sure. Colors are close to iMac.

Also, I connected my old Dell 24” HDMI -> HDMI with the cable AOC put inside the box for my 4K monitor. That works fine too. I will check if it is RGB, I assume not, but don’t care much as I only use it for writing emails and has been YPbPr for years without me noticing it.

how do you like your mac mini M1? i have one my self and love it

For those of you using Dell monitors with built-in speakers, do you ever have any issues with awakening the monitor (the computer is set to never go to sleep) and the speakers having a dinging noise every half second or so? It requires turning off the monitor to get it to stop. I'm using a Dell U3421WE display connected via USB-C.

Contacted Dell. They are replacing the monitor. Hopefully it solves the issue.

M1 doesn’t support built in speaker lg 34 inch ultrawide monitor I got from Costco. So I have to manually control the sound with monitor control buttons. I pain in the but.
Or switch over to my Bluetooth speakers. But that defeats the purpose of built in speaker from lg. Lg speakers actually are pretty decent

so I googled and found “eq app” for Mac so now I can control sound from built in speakers from within Mac os.

I downloaded that, but haven't installed it yet. For one, I want to make sure that the problem I'm having with my Dell U3421WE gets resolved first (when I awaken it from sleep, the monitor has a black screen but the backlight is still on so obviously not asleep; when I awaken computer the speakers make a dinging sound about 2x/second requiring me to turn off the monitor and turn back on).

Dell is sending a replacement monitor. If the new one doesn't do this, then I'll consider install the eq app.

Is it native Apple Silicon? Did you have to change security for kernel extensions to install it? How well does it perform?

Received the Philips 278E1 display today. Connected with HDMI. Very sharp! Thinking about buying another one. Should work one HDMI to HDMI and the other USB-C to DisplayPort.

I can confirm that the following display setup is working with the Mac Mini M1

Brand: Benq
Model: GL2250HM
Connection: HDMI to HDMI
Cable: Club 3D Premium High Speed HDMI 4K60Hz CAC-1311 1 meter

Only during the initial upgrade from macOS 11.0.1 to 11.4 I had some HDMI static. Otherwise so far everything is fine including wake up from sleep. Audio via HDMI also works, but you cannot change the volume with macOS (only on the display, which is kind of clumsy), so I use the mac‘s internal speaker for now.

Have mine connected to a Alienware AW3420DW Via DP to USB-C with no issues
