I might have to sell my car
I did that when I bought the studio display 🤣
(I didn't use it anyway)

I'm really impressed. They seem to have dropped the price, and it's incredible to me that in 2024 you can now buy a powerful desktop computer that fits in the palm of your. They even gave it thunderbolt 5. This is incredible.
Apple's new redesigned Mac mini with M4 Pro chip features three Thunderbolt 5 ports, the newest specification of Thunderbolt that offers speeds of up to 120 Gb/s with Bandwidth Boost, which is triple the maximum bandwidth of Thunderbolt 4.

The new standard also features support for native DisplayPort 2.1 output over USB‑C. Thunderbolt 5 is fully compatible with USB4, and supports advanced protocols such as PCIe 4.0, allowing faster data access speeds for storage devices and peripherals.
In contrast, the new Mac mini with M4 chip includes three Thunderbolt 4 ports. Front ports on both models include two USB-C ports that support USB 3, and an audio jack with support for high-impedance headphones.
Both models also come standard with Gigabit Ethernet, configurable up to 10Gb Ethernet for faster networking speeds, and an HDMI port for easy connection to a TV or HDMI display without an adapter. With M4, Mac mini can support up to two 6K displays and up to one 5K display, and with M4 Pro, it can support up to three 6K displays at 60Hz for a total of over 60 million pixels.
The new Mac mini with M4 starts with 16GB of memory for $599, while the M4 Pro models start with 24GB for $1,399. The new models are available to pre-order today with launch day arriving on Friday, November 8.

lol no. There would be no ARM drivers anyways.Does it have eGPU USB4 support? I ask this because it would be really nice for usage in Parallels when using Windows. Even if Apple doesn't support nVidia or Radeon graphics cards in macOS, it would be nice to be able to use it for Windows.
Definitely starting to look that way.so does this mean a new studio display soon? next year?
This being a desktop, hopefully many will use Ethernet.this is an amazing and unexpected update.. and then they cheap out and don't add wifi 7![]()
There are for Linux right now. Only a matter of time before they come out for Windows Arm.lol no. There would be no ARM drivers anyways.
Yes.This makes me wonder if the Studio is even going to continue to be a "thing"
It's more functional this way. Its a computer, not a work of art.they shouldnt have put ports on the front. Maybe they had to with the smaller body. But it makes it look uglier
This is completely false.I’m been a IT Admin for many years and I’ve never used or purchased anything thunderbolt. No one outside very specific industries (video editing?) even knows what it is.
I just don’t get it… they keep making ports like this faster and faster, yet it seems like the vast majority of people have no use for this. On the other hand, things people or businesses actually want, like M.2 slots, are impossible.
I hate to break this to you, but outside of enthusiast forums most Mac users have very little technical knowledge. That’s why most consumers buy them in the first place, other than looking ‘pretty’ or wanting to socially ‘show off’.This is completely false.
You are moving the goalposts. You said that nobody outside of video editing personnel knows what thunderbolt is. That is completely false as I said.I hate to break this to you, but outside of enthusiast forums most Mac users have very little technical knowledge. That’s why most consumers buy them in the first place, other than looking ‘pretty’ or wanting to socially ‘show off’.
I understand what you are saying, but again, all of this is incredibly niche for the typical home or business user.Lots of people need the fast ports, especially for 4k monitors at 120 and 144hz. And you have many people transferring video and files via thunderbolt too. This is a bad take. Go visit some monitor forums, see tens of thousands of posts about people wanting 4k, 5k, even 8k monitors and TVs.
M.2? They sell single-slot enclosures for $20, enough for home users. Also have multi-slot enclosures if you need more. You need more than that? Well, Mac Mini isn’t for you, and not even expensive PC mobos have more than two or three M.2 slots. This analysis is simply off base. It just is.
