Disclaimer: Of course no one but Apple knows these things conclusively at this point though...

In reality, very few people within Apple probably know full details... and I would doubt that the final price has been set yet, afterall, it is more likely than not still a year away, as we saw with 10.5 --> 10.6 :/

I was using Apple in a general sense. I was referring to people in a need to know position within Apple of course. I know the low level employees in the stores and whatnot aren't given sensitive information. There are clearly people in Apple that know these things and make these decisions.

It's funny... I put that disclaimer up there for the people who would shout "you don't know those things for sure" and apparently I need to also put up a disclaimer for my disclaimer so people won't shout about that.

Anyone also think that 10.7 will be the last version of OS X? If you think of the cats being used and how Apple's been using them lately, what's really left (if there are any left...) is the lion and the lion is king and there is none bigger.

I was simply adding clarification to the matter, I wasn't shouting at you, merely adding to you're already good point :)

Last version of OS X? I don't know about that. I think, from a marketing perspective that there won't be any more cat names for the Mac OS. I would expect 10.8 or 11.0 to begin marrying OS X and iOS in some fashion.

Just so we're clear, I don't mean the last Mac OS but the last version of 10 before they move on to something else. I mean, I don't see them using a different animal (that's not a cat) and then calling it 10.8. I think after lion, it'll be Mac OS 11 with what you said, something to do or integrate with iOS.

I am pretty sure 10.8 was confirmed to be named "Liger".

There are many rumors that the new version of OS X will not be compatible with current computers. It will be released early next year and only be available as pre-installed on all the new redesigns (macbook/pro, iMac). :(

The more likely scenario is that future versions of OS X (from 10.7 onward) will not be compatible with anything but EFI64. Older EFI32 Intel Macs such as 2006 and 2007 models would not be compatible with the new versions os OS X.

Apple should not hurry with new OSX. Why ? Because Apple consumers and experts still waiting for something really spectacular and well-rounded.

In my opinion and also some Apple experts Snow Leopard was similar mistake product like Microsoft Vista was.

Maybe it is also a time to start talking about new universal file system (what about ZFS ???), full Intel UEFI compatibility (what about users who want to run Windows 7 64-bit on Macs ???) and full GPU support under OSX. I am really bored this battle between Apple and Adobe regarding Flash. What about USB 3.0 support under OSX ? What about future - Intel Light Peak support ? What about native NTFS write under OSX without buggy drivers from external companies ? Maybe it is time to propose a real native file manager ? Questions, question, questions...

I'm not sure how they relate SL to vista at all. They were two completely different things. Vista was a complete overhaul of the windows operating system, while SL was just a large maintenance/optimization of Leopard (hence the $30 price tag). Those are two completely different animals.

Also, you already can run windows 7 64-bit on a mac (in fact I am doing it currently on an "unsupported" model)

Yeah I think sometimes people forget SL was NOT a completely new OS upgrade.

I doubt if OSX Lion will be release this year. . . and I also doubt it'll be less than $129.

I do believe we'll see lots of new features though. Can't wait until the 20th! It'll be cool to see a redesign with the MBP's but that'll probably happen next year when "Lion" get's released.

Mountain Lion. Like the highest that Mac OS X will ever go. Then OS 11/iOS convergence.

There is no way they would end support for the current line without any notice, as there would be a huge backlash.

They may drop the 32 bit processors as they upgraded the macbooks to 64 bit processors in the first year they were available (Core Duo -> Core 2).

what's with the predictions of Macintosh's demise in favor of iOS? iOS is for mobile devices...Macs are not (necessarily) mobile devices, unless you people foresee Apple ditching the iMac and Mac Pro.

This could be a while no? I mean there's posts about a touch screen imac and what not around the interwebs. Could it be apple doing a snow leopard-ish kinda sneak peak at perhaps a touch screen imac? if that's the case, then hell no, it won't be out by december. and probably be out in the near future, like december next year.

- TRIM
- Resolution independence (1280x800 currently looks just horrible on the 13" MB and MBP)
- tabbed finder browsing
- not really a feature but rather a request, decent 3D drivers would be a plus.

CATFISH!

I doubt they will only be compatible to new Mac 2011. lol

The only thing it won't support on Mac 2010 and below + after PPC is multi-touch screen support.

Other features will be as well integrated.

Anyways, lol. I almost forgot about 10.6.5 coming update will be well round in Nov-Dec. So 10.7 is definitely NEXT year for sure.

I've lost my logical way of thinking for developers lol. More like are you kidding that they just finished working on 10.6.5 and then release 10.7. What a waste of resources!

Pretty funny.

So Windows works on all computer basically, but OS X only on the next gen models.

Pretty lame if it won't be compatible with the current gen Macbook pro's.
