Late to this thread. I delidded mine. I used a combination of razor blade to cut into the adhesive, but stayed far away from going all the way though as I didn’t want to damage any resistors. The Vise was used and it was easy.
Here’s a few hints
The board may not pop off like in the video.
If you’re not sure get a cheap processor to practice on. You can get them for $3.
Make sure you are putting it in the vise so you are pushing the right direction. The wrong direction could damage the resistors.
Watch how far you are going from underneath the vise. Mine did not pop off like in the video. Rather it slid but stayed stuck to the board. When it does this it can actually slide until, the heat sink is hitting the vise on both sides and all you are doing is crushing the heat sink lid.
You will feel it loosen up substantially. Stop and remove and remove the heat sink by hand. It will still be stuck to the board because it’s adhesive is gummy
Use a breaker bar on the vise. It will keep you from killing your self turning the vise and it gives you much more control. I got a Piece of one foot pipe at the hardware store. Just make sure the opening of the pipe will slide over the vise handle.
Imho this is easier than playing with pads, spacers, and torquing down screws.

Well, I rather go with the lid on....never had a problem, just beeing EXTREMELY careful, that’s all. When you do it 3 times on a row on your own Mac, you get used with the lid. Just my 2 cents:)

Cutting in the adhesive a little, vise with a pipe plus heat (300 Celsius) did it for me. Polished the cpu with sand paper and a fiberglass brush pen.
