Thanks !
I don't know why the RX 560 don't wake up from sleep mode ,I have a black screen and have to turn off the Mac Pro manually.

Edit:It seem that the "GIGABYTE RADEON RX 560 Gaming OC 4G" Rev.2 doesn't work correctly on a cMP early 2009 flashed to 5.1 .

Anybody know if I'll have the same problems with a "SAPPHIRE Pulse Radeon RX 580 8G" ?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same RX 560 and it walks up fine? You may check your System settings regarding Energy settings and your sleeping modes. As I use my Mac for recording audio I don’t want the HDs going to sleep and screen savers kicking on and off ?

I use also my Mac for recording audio ,in fact it's a machine dedicated exclusively to audio with one SSD for OSX High Sierra + plugins audio and 2 SSD PCie for kontakt library + RME BabyFace Pro.

I think the problems are due to lack of power of my MP early 2009 , I have upgraded my 2x 2,23 Ghz by 2x3,33 GHz added 64 GB and 2 SSD PCIe but I'm not sur .

Did your RX 560 display in system informations AMD R9 XXX 4Gb and it's a 2009 or 2010 cMP ?

Also, I’ve noticed that System Report says it’s running with a PCIe Lane Width of x8 as the GT 120
ran at 16.In fact if I put the GT 120 into slot 2 it still runs a x16 with the RX 560 still runs at x8.

Any help would be welcome ,thanks in advance !

I have the same identifier in “About This Mac” as you. My GT 120 is on its original slot and the RX in Slot 3. That may have some effect. Did you do the upgrade the CPUs on your MP? I have 2.66 Original CPU and 16 meg of ram. It’s a simple job that can go very very wrong.

I also don’t think it’s anything to do with CPU power?

I forgot to say I have 2009 early MP with 5,1 firmware upgrade

Yes I did the upgrade of the CPUs and flashed my 4.1 to 5.1 , I changed my 2 x 2,26 Ghz 4-cores by 2x 3,33 Ghz 6-Cores and 8 x 8 GB Ram (64Gb) 1333 .
Now, I can use lot of vst and plugins:

What method did you use to tighten the Heat Sink bolts? Did it work first time? Get the tourqe wrong your screwed? Did you have to De-Lid the replacement CPUs before replaceing? I would love to do it but read and watched a lot on the web and there’s so many thinks can go wrong? There are people doing this but want a lot of cash?

In addition to all of this, and h98 alluded to it with his HDMI 2.0 mention, the RX580 does 4K/5K @60Hz as it has both HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 which are the latest standards. Consequently the RX580 is much more future-proof than the 280X.
Does a RX 580 8GB will work on a Mac Pro 4.1 flashed to 5.1,will this run a x16 (PCie Lane) ?

I actually have a RX 560 4GB, I’ve noticed that System Report says it’s running with a PCIe Lane Width of x8 as the GT 120 ran at 16.In fact if I put the GT 120 into slot 2 it still runs a x16 with the RX 560 still runs at x8.

Because your RX560 is a x8 card.

Can't read your picture. Anyway, AFAIK, all RX460 and RX560 GPU DIE is x8, there is no benefit even install it on a x16 card.

Thanks.
I did not notice any difference between the GT120 and the RX 560 4 GB in term of performance .
If I bought a RX 580 will I have benefit on my Mac Pro early 2009 flashed to 5.1 ?
Mac Pro 2009 don't have PCie 3.0 so I think I can't have any benefit with any card.

What performance difference you are looking for. I mean which software, what you expect?

If you can't see any difference between GT120 and RX 560. There should be only one reason, you are not GPU limiting. And the GT120 is already overkill.

If this is correct, upgrade to RX580 won't help anything.

Anyway, I can't see anywhere in Gigabyte website about if their card negotiate at PCIe 3.0 x16. But MSI has very clear description about their RX 560.

Many thanks.
I use Pro Tools 12 and Logic for recording audio and some Adobe products.
Wiil a RX 580 8 GB will run at x16 on my MP ,

I can't see why you need PCIe 3.0, PCIe 2.0 x 16 should be already overkill for RX580. My 1080Ti can only run at PCIe 1.1 x16 in Windows, but the gaming / video encoding performance is in line with any other benchmarks on the internet. I can still stress the card to 100%. And 1080Ti is about 2x faster than RX580.

Many thanks.

Could someone tell me which cable to buy to connect an RX 580 on a Mac Pro 2009 ?

Thanks in advance.
