IMPORTANT NEWS! Software Update 12.2.1 (21D62) was released on February 10. I downloaded it yesterday. It has fully resolved the sleep/crash problems I've had since installing Monterey OS. What a relief!

12.2.1 just crashed for me, a day after upgrading. It crashed immediately after upgrading a day or two ago (I let the upgrade happen overnight so it was sitting for a while). I then experienced the crash again just now after manually putting it to sleep four hours ago. This has been happening since I upgraded to Monterey months ago (Mac Mini 2018 with a LG TV connected via HDMI). Here's hoping 12.3 will fix it. o_O

i had my macpro 6,1 now over two days in sleep and it didn't crashed. when it wakes up everything was ok - no crash report or message that it was rebooted after a unexpected crash.
but i had power nap and network wakeups unchecked in the energysafer settings, so i have to test it now with this settings checked ;)

Let us know how it goes. I had my Mac Pro 6,1 up and running and put it in sleep mode for a few days after the latest update with "Restore Defaults" and it seem to work without crashing so far too. It does not look like there was a firmware update, so I have not yet tried booting up into bootcamp and testing it also. It was crashing in Bootcamp more frequent than in macOS Monterey.

I have same setup: Mac Mini 2018 with LG TV and still crashing with 12.2.1.

ok, one night later with all energy saving settings checked the mac was running this morning when i came into the office but the display was black. the powerbutton led was stady lighting and the vents running moderate - i had to reconnect the hdmi cable 3 times to get a picture - but it was not crashed and showed the login screen (as expected). so i logged in and everything was still open and network shares where alive. no crash report, no restart.
Ok, could be that my DELL U3821DW monitor has problems finding the hdmi signal - will check that the next days.

You could try resetting the SMC. I fixed my Trashcan's issues with once in a while finding the screen after wakeup this way.

I now have a 3818DW hanging off the computer via Thunderbolt to Displayport. Zero issues.

Running an MP 6,1 with Monterey 12.2.1 since the day it was out; no crushes during sleep mode, but no crashes before the 12.2.1, either.

Does it mean something? I wonder if I'm just lucky (until now!). All the posts in this thread must lead to some pattern regarding the problem. Is all that info enough to be called a "little big data" case? I know nothing about that big data stuff, nor do I know how difficult it is to run one, but it would be interesting to read that some computer scientist from the forum (there must be many) attempted it.

How nonsense such an idea would be?

I had fewer crashes with 12.2 - even went 2 days without one. But 12.2.1 - not stable yet. I won't post the MCA report - same thing everyone is showing. I'm running dual Thunderbolt 27'' monitors off a MP 2013 trashcan.

Did you try switching off the power outlets to all the connected displays?

You can do this at the outlet or by a smart plug if you have one.

These are the apple thunderbolt displays - so they don't have a power switch - you'd have to unplug them from the monitor cable itself. which is really not a usable solution. last night - didn't get a crash. night before i did.

I never once said anything about using any power switch on the monitor?

I know it’s a pain but you can get cheap smart outlet plugs from Amazon to kill the power to the display or you can just pull the power cables out of the wall outlet when you set the Mac to sleep.

I have had no crashes since November 2021 by just simply killing the power to ALL of the connected displays.

Apple doesn’t seem to want to help or fix anything so we have 2 options really deal with the crashing or have our own work around solution.

If you don’t want to try then that’s up to you but I spent around 6 or so hours on phone with Apple in October and November and got no where so I don’t expect any fix anytime soon if ever at all really.

I found temporary solution and my Mac Pro 6.1 is still without crash for about 7 days, so you can try it for yourselves.
Only option in Energy Saver which is marked is "Prevent your Mac from automatically sleeping when display is off".
All other are unmarked.
Also "Turn display off after" is put to Never.
So I always put my Mac to sleep manually through the menu, not with the shortcut (cmd+alt+eject).
I left it over night and for a long period of time, for about 10 hours in sleep mode, and wake up is without any crash for a week.
Hope this could help.

Did all that weeks ago and the longest periode that all went well was ±10 days.

It's about 8 days so far without crash, maybe 9 days. Always left over night for about 8-10 hours in sleep.
But today I tested one more thing. I set "Turn off display" back to 30min, and I put Mac to sleep manually. After few hours I got crash. So obviously "Turn display off" needs to be set to "Never".
This is crazy, Apple used to be very reliable in the past and now it becomes very disappointing.

FWIW John Boyden's post from page 3 of this thread may have fixed it for me with sudo pmset -a standby 0. According to documentation on pmset

standby causes kernel power management to automatically hibernate a machine after it has slept for a specified time period. This saves power while asleep. This setting defaults to ON for supported hardware. The setting standby will be visible in pmset −g if the feature is supported on this machine.

My theory is there's an issue with that hibernation somewhere? This seems consistent with the common theme of "it crashes after sleeping but only after awhile" that I've seen in this thread. I'll post again if I see another crash. Until then, here's my current setup and things of note:
  • 2017 iMac 21.5 (originally with fusion drive)
  • Monterey 12.2.1
  • Aftermarket OWC Aura SSD
  • OEM HDD still installed for additional storage
  • Aftermarket memory
  • I enabled scheduled power (wake at 5:59AM, sleep at 6:01AM) to run a daily cronjob at 6AM
Edit: Do pmset -g to see what your current value of standby is before making the change so you can set it back if it doesn't work for you

Edit 2: Nevermind. Just crashed. This sucks.

Tried this with hope today, before seeing "Edit 2", and it crashed for me too. Apple ain't what it used to be.
