Also...it may not be a firmware issue. I also had the same thing happen on my MacBook Pro 2018 i9 as some others had stated on other Macs. It crashed and restarted over the night with the same message. Maybe an OS issue instead.
Yeah, mine hasn't crashed with any of the 12.3 betas. Probably not a firmware issue.

sounds like this crashing while sleeping issues is mostly solved? as long as whatever fix in the 12.3 RC (beta) successfully makes it over to the official 12.3 release.

Weird that the firmware is not included in RC but it is in Beta 3. Any risk with installing the latest firmware given that it only comes with the beta?

I am not following you here. Earlier, you reported you installed a 12.3 beta which updated your firmware to 430.100.23.0.0. You then reported no failures over several weeks. Now you have 12.3 RC and you say 12.3 RC does not update the firmware. But, you have previously upgraded your firmware with one of the beta's. So, I do not follow the logic where you suggest the firmware is not the issue?

The first two 12.3 betas had no firmware update so I still had the old firmware. It hasn't crashed since before 12.3 beta 1.

I thought I remembered reading, somewhere, that the 12.3 update was gonna come out simultaneous to an 11.6.5 update, and that both/either would carry a Firmware update.

I updated one of my Big Sur partitions to 11.6.5: No FW update. Still showed system firmware as 429.60.3.0.0
Then updated THAT same partition to 12.3 and same issue; still showing the older firmware.

Taking out the 3rd party nVME now and rebooting / re-installing to the  Factory SSD to see if (by chance) it changes the story. I'm now REALLY puzzled but the previous poster's update about how Beta-3 upgraded their firmware but RC did not... etc.

Well the public release is out - no FW change here :) The RC build number is the same as the public release as well. (21E230)

Latest firmware on MP 6,1 is indeed 430.100.23.0.0 - I just however have not got it. Not sure if those who update to the public release will fare any differently.

I just updated to 12.3 and still have the sleep-crash problem. The update did NOT update the firmware. However, I am using a non apple SSD (2.0TB OWC Aura Pro X2) which may be the reason the firmware didn't update. Guess I'll try sticking the old drive back in and see what happens. This is frustrating :(

Update: I reinstalled my original Apple SSD (500gig) and did an update from 12.1 to 12.3. The firmware did NOT change and the crash on wake remains. The original apple drive did not make a difference for a firmware update

Mine keeps crashing since I upgraded to Monterey (12.0.1) when first released. This morning I installed 12.3, still same issue.

When upgrading to 12.3 I used my original Apple SSD and then re-did the installation on my Aura Pro X2.

Firmware did not update. Currently still running: 429.60.3.0.0.

Specs are: 12 Core CPU, D300, 64GB OWC Ram, 1TB OWC AURA Pro X2. Connected to LG 5K Ultrafine via TB2 to TB3.

My next troubleshooting steps are:

- Clean Install Monterey. If issue persists
- Then replace CMOS battery: BR2032, If issue persists
- Then I will sell it. The constant crashing is driving me crazy.

I have the exact same software config on my MacBook Pro 15-inch 2018 - and no issues at all. This problem has me baffled.

D700 here. Big Sur 11.6.2
Crashes every few days. Even crashes with
sudo pmset -a standby 0
but not so often?
I believe it's firmware related, as was very stable before about 11.6.2 (or 11.6.1?).
Machine was built in early 2019, so one of the last ones presumably.
Some posters state that installing Monterey update didn't update firmware, so is it possible that Apple have pulled the new (430?) firmware because of problems?

I upgraded to 12.3, and let the Mac Pro 6,1 sleep automatically In the system settings. It has been a few hours, I woke it up two times by mouse click after it went to sleep, and it was fine. But it is too early to tell, will let it sleep all night and will see tomorrow.

Upgraded and overnight with no crash yet. Will keep it asleep for a few days and see what happens.

Update: it crashed overnight, Monterey 12.3. This is disturbing, the issue is present since October 2021, I have sent numerous reports. Now we are towards the end of March 2022. No fix from Apple. I would have thought they abandoned the MP6,1 but I see people with other Macs are also reporting similar issues.

It seems for some reason the 430 firmware had to be delayed or cancelled in favor of another revision, I’d imagine a more serious bug was found with it. At times like this I do wish Apple was a bit more transparent about such things, but it does seem they’re working on it.
