I can understand the whole "keep the old chassis to transition to new internals" idea, but I really hope Apple will give the (hopefully) 2025 M3 Extreme Mac Pro chassis a redesign... ;^p

I expect we'll get the same chassis the next revision too, at least. Tim Cook's Apple loves their legacy form factors to save money (and frankly the Mac Pro is the one place they absolutely should stick to the same form factor. It's well-designed, flexible, and most every professional appreciates a new, faster model that can easily slot into where the old one was without tinkering.)

192 RAM not upgradeable.
76 GPU cores. (scaling problem as in the MS Ultra)
same design.
M2 Ultra, no 3 nm.
PCI slots for (expensive graphic cards)
:)
You've linked a video that just regurgitates what German "expects/believes/views/anticipates". Not exactly helpful.

And I can tell you now, Max Tech are one of the biggest clickbait creators in the tech space.

let’s so some calcs. (Probably already done this earlier in the thread, but here goes)
M2max is about 20% faster for cpu and 40 % for Gpu at best according to rumors. An m1 ultra gpu performs similar to a 6700 gpu, or slightly worse than half a 6800duo. This is for rendering in octane, redshift and cycles. For some tasks the perf is better and not problematic. So, hoping for the best of the best scenario, a better scaling m2ultra might be at 7900xt level, or in nvidia terms, around a 3070. Well.
So the new mac pro would be faster for cpu but quite a lot slower then a loaded 2019 mp. Apple will oc cherry-pick some benches and say that the new 7999$ 24/56 mp will beat a 20000$ 2019 mp with 28 cores and a w6900x. This will be true since that must have been the most insanely priced item ever. It would however easily be beaten by an old 2020 imac with dual 6900xt egpus when it comes to rendering.
A dual 6800 duo or would still be a lot faster though. Will apple let this happen? Or do they have a secret well hidden from us?

Im shocked that Mac Pro sales are 11%! That is huge!

I do wonder if we will all be waiting for the m3 extreme version, and if so, skipping the m2 gimped ultra version might make sense for a lot of people. Disappointing.

With all due respect to CIRP, they are not a well known analyst firm and this data should be taken with a grain of salt. My math may be off but back of the envelope, according to this Apple makes more revenue off of the Mac Pro than HP does from it's workstations or probably any other workstation vendor. Big if true.

Very fair caution on your part. But it's HUGE if true. Because while it's 11% by unit, by profit margin, that could mean Mac pros easily account 25% of profit!!?!

I simply do not believe it, either they switched the figures with the mini, or someone has been drinking the cool aid, big time.

Maybe the numbers are historical? Like “all Mac Pros form 2006+”

Although even then I don’t think it makes sense.

I wonder if the numbers are wrong on purpose as clickbait to actually get people to subscribe to CIRP's sub-stack so they can see the report and try to work out what bizarre logic they used to get to 11%.

There's absolutely no way 11% correct.

I'm going to assume the numbers are off or somehow misrepresentative.

Yep, Mac Pros selling 10x more than Minis? Impossible.
Like the pilots in the infamous aircraft incident when an airliner on short approach somewhere in South America, in hilly terrain and fog, have to listen to the aircraft warning system: "Terrain, pull up!, Terrain, pull up" and in addition, they read the instruments that—on top of the crazy warning system—also seem to show unreasonable numbers and indications.

The famous last words from the pilot flying, in response to the warning system, was "shut up gringo". They crashed shortly after that.

Surely, almost certainly, these Mac Pro numbers have to be wrong. There is no other explanation. Spend a week in any Apple Store and you'll see a few people leaving with Mac Minis, MacBooks, and iMacs. NO ONE is buying Mac Pro. If they do, they are used off the internet. It's a ****** computer that sucks, and no one can use it. For anything. It's clear to see. For everyone.

Glad we got that settled. Good talk.

The real figures for the Mac Pro are probably so low that its a secret ... having said that I may buy one used, but not new at RRP. Those figures that started this are about as reliable as China's COVID statistics, meaning not at all. Heck our local Apple store has never, at any time had a 2019 mac pro on display...

My dad picked up a Studio to replace his old iMac last month. Ordered it online, had it delivered for store pickup. The Apple Store employees apparently gathered around him, asking what upgrades he'd gotten, they'd never seen someone get a Studio before, it was like a celebrity had dropped in.

I can only imagine the hullabaloo if someone was lugging a Mac Pro out. Doubt they've ever seen one sold (and I don't even know if that store has a Mac Pro on display.)

I can only recall seeing it at the flagship stores (Fifth Ave. Manhattan, etc.)

We don't even need to get into Apple store observations about retail presence, the data itself just doesn't jibe with what's been widely reported by tier 1 analyst firms or Apple filings. If true, Apple shouldn't change one thing in terms of how they're doing the Mac Pro, they are literally the pinnacle of workstation success.

Keep in mind also that the Mac Pro is purchased by Apple's partners for a variety of initiatives. In these instances Apple will have a long-standing relationship with the said partner and can provide custom solutions for them - Disney, Pixar, IBM, Salesforce are just some examples of larger companies.

Whilst it's true that the Mac mini follows suit, it's not hard to imagine that it can't be deployed in with such variety, given the limited specs.

I could imagine a lot of businesses buying a last 'burst' of intel machines for a whole bunch of reasons.
