Apple continues to surprise us.
Latest innovation: a Trashcan II housed within the cheesegrater's case
Yeah. Or more like: combining the disadvantages, get rid of the benefits. The best of both worlds!
I should also expand and show what all is in this price:Well a couple things...fully kitted out, here's the final price for the new Mac Pro "which I'm still gonna buy lololol"
And I have to say, VISION PRO IS INCREDIBLE. I'm excited as hell for that and will pick it up the second it's available for pre-order. I think the version I will want will likely cost $5,000 but I think the tech in it will be worth it. That thing is a monster and a major disruptor in the world of VR. Genuine Star Trek Shhh going on there lol.
And frankly, the Mac Pro is PERFECT for anyone that doesn't need to do 3D, but it'll still work well enough for folks that aren't doing heavy 3D or VFX. Hopefully future iterations will either support DGPU OR the Apple GPU cards will release for the PCI lanes. View attachment 2212703
That would be pretty cool. I would be able to respect that. And more highly doubtful is if they will even offer current Mac Pro owners the opportunity to "buy in" and upgrade the intel logic board to an apple one, since all of the remaining hardware will be the same (fans, RAM, exhaust, power module, etc...)

„We truly do live in miracoulous times“Apple continues to surprise us.

I don't think the case is exactly the same. There are going to be minor changes around the removal of RAM slots, etc. So no direct logic board upgrade.
Case is close, but I would guess it's kind of a 3,1 to 4,1 thing under the hood.
I think you're wrong, but we'll only know for sure once someone buys it and can compare both side by side
It is interesting that the power connectors are still there and the slots are still the right height for GPUs.
But... other than that absolutely no trace of GPU support. Best case is Apple adds support later. But hard to see them adding support for cards that are now competing directly against them.
So now cant officially buy a Mac Pro 7.1?
The Intel board was technically a double sided board. This board looks to be single sided (which is a simplification I'm sure Apple is happy about.) Stuff like the storage slots go away too. So not exactly the same case, not exactly the same board design.
