It's hard to make googles look cool. It's like something out of Black Mirror. Still, maybe we'll all be using them next year.

Well a couple things...fully kitted out, here's the final price for the new Mac Pro "which I'm still gonna buy lololol"

And I have to say, VISION PRO IS INCREDIBLE. I'm excited as hell for that and will pick it up the second it's available for pre-order. I think the version I will want will likely cost $5,000 but I think the tech in it will be worth it. That thing is a monster and a major disruptor in the world of VR. Genuine Star Trek Shhh going on there lol.

And frankly, the Mac Pro is PERFECT for anyone that doesn't need to do 3D, but it'll still work well enough for folks that aren't doing heavy 3D or VFX. Hopefully future iterations will either support DGPU OR the Apple GPU cards will release for the PCI lanes.

And more highly doubtful is if they will even offer current Mac Pro owners the opportunity to "buy in" and upgrade the intel logic board to an apple one, since all of the remaining hardware will be the same (fans, RAM, exhaust, power module, etc...)

That would be pretty cool. I would be able to respect that.

Easier to sell the 7,1 and put the money towards a 8,1. Also, what would they do with their GPUs?

It is interesting that the power connectors are still there and the slots are still the right height for GPUs.

But... other than that absolutely no trace of GPU support. Best case is Apple adds support later. But hard to see them adding support for cards that are now competing directly against them.

I don't think the case is exactly the same. There are going to be minor changes around the removal of RAM slots, etc. So no direct logic board upgrade.

Case is close, but I would guess it's kind of a 3,1 to 4,1 thing under the hood.

I think you're wrong, but we'll only know for sure once someone buys it and can compare both side by side.

Think about it from a business POV -- why would they redesign it if it's already good as it is (all they would need to do is replace the logic board, all other parts remain the same)..... Save all that money on redevelopment. They're already "recycling" the case. Why not just recycle the remaining hardware? (fans, exhaust, ram, power module, etc...)

The Intel board was technically a double sided board. This board looks to be single sided (which is a simplification I'm sure Apple is happy about.) Stuff like the storage slots go away too. So not exactly the same case, not exactly the same board design.

Plus the chassis isn't really long enough for modern GPUs, and they've got rid of MPX.

They've had long enough to add eGPU / PCIe GPU support by now. It's not happening; what you see is what you get.

Since the AS Mac Pro doesn't have MPX modules > reduced weight.

Furthermore, AS on the left, Intel on the right. Feel free to DL this picture and test yourself, but using a ruler, it appears that ALL of the PCIe ports on BOTH computer line up perfectly, and so do the power module and everything else.

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that all they replaced was the logic board.
