I wish it is a 4K monitor though

The resolution is fine so far. The screen size is great, even the curved display. It would be perfect with even more height, like 2500 pixels or so and retina. But then we'd have a curved Dell 8K.

I upgraded to a Ultra-Wide Acer XR382CQK (38", 3840 x 1600 ) from DELL U3014 2560 x 1600
It is about 3cm narrower than DELL, but a lot wider.
Found that 38-inch ULTRAWIDE really a sweet spot to boost productivity
The reason I don't go 4K Hi-Res monitor because it slows down Lightroom a lot.

There are some other models all using the same LG panels
Dell UltraSharp 38 Curved Monitor: U3818DW

How did you manage to get 144hz ..im sitting on a Mac Pro late 2013 with displayport and dual and d700.Gpu
and I only get 120hz and at the same time its says 3840x1080 ( low resolution) in display info .
dont know if this is normal ...everything looks fine ...
Do you need to change the refresh rate with the monitor itself?
I can't see away to adjust monitor settings in this samsung ultrawide display. There are some buttons that show presets with refresh rate of 120 but i don't know how to get that. I went on online chat with someone from samsung and they said to connect with the miniDV port instead of using HDMI and said I should get an adapter. Well i have tried a thunderbolt 2 cable from the monitor's miniDV port to my mac pro 2019 using an adapter but my guess is the adapter just turns it into usb c rather than thunderbolt 3 as it isn't helping.

ok i have managed to get refresh of 120 hz. here's how i did it. I went into preference, displays, then held down stretched radiobox whilst pressing option key, then i had to choose low resolution checkbox then i had option to choose 120 hz refresh rate. I got a couple of black screens, then an all pink screen, and then it worked. doesn't look much different to me though.

If I take 2 DP1.4 cables from my nMP then I should be getting 7680x4320 pixels @ 60Hz, right? By the way, is it worth to get 8K monitor now?

Great! Currently I already have a Asus 4K monitor, and thinking that would it weird if 32"monitor sitting next to a 27"monitor? I meant 32"monitor should be taller than 27"monitor, right?

32 is actually a lot bigger ... could be a bit strange .

I'm somewhat tempted to get an 8k TV and use it as a monitor. One 65" 8k tv is like 4 (2x2) 30" monitors (size of desk space used). So I think this may be very attractive. There are a few options I think all around $5k.

How do you connect an 8k Monitor? I thought the 6k of the XDR already pushing limits of TB3

You'll need either need a video card that supports HDMI2.1 or some of the dinky older 8k monitors required two 1.4display port connectors (if I recall correctly, I think that's what the old Dell 30hz display used).

The Dell UP3218K uses two DP1.4 cables (HBR3) for 7680x4320@60Hz. Something every modern graphic card handles.

One of the gotchas with these 38" UW displays is that Apple thinks it is a 4K display and enables 2x mode on them until you disable it. Whoops.

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a bit more resolution, but in my case, I also have a mini-ITX gaming rig hooked up to my LG 38GL950. I'll take the higher refresh rate for now.

My computer stand has limited room for a display. I'm using the Apple endorsed LG 24MD4KL-B. IMHO it's a superb monitor.

Is it possible to use a 24" Apple LED Cinema Display with the 2019 Mac Pro with the Radeon Pro 580X?

I need to save my lunch money for a new monitor if/when I pull the trigger on this shopping cart!

^^^^I believe with these two adapters you would be able to use the Apple 24" monitor:

I wonder, then, what this means in the Graphics Technical Specs:

Four DisplayPort connections routed to system to support internal Thunderbolt 3 ports

Can one use a MiniDP-to-DP adapter and then a DP-to-TB3 adapter:

I purchased this model:

and then this cable:

It works great in MacOS also with HDR on at 5120x2160. The LG thunderbolt 3 white cable isn't able to show the hdr signal coming from the Radeon Pro 580X mpx module, the Startech TB3 to Displayport cable 1.4 is ok.
Unfortunately DaVinci Resolve Studio doesn't support this display as hdr monitor, neither Apple TV plays 4K HDR movies directly on it.

On Windows 10 (bootcamp) Microsoft Edge plays 4K HDR Youtube videos correctly but you need the TB3 to displayport 1.4 cable.

Why not use a USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter directly?

I did not know such a thing existed. I will definitely give that one a go when the time comes.

I'm looking at one of the available refurbished models. I want to pair it with a 32" monitor but can't afford anything much over $1000 until I save up again. I've looked through this thread a few times & most of the monitors were ultrawide, over 32", under 32", or over $1000. I am currently using a 27" iMac. I'm also not sure if I want a 3840 x 2160 resolution, or 2560 x 1440. For now, I'll use it mostly for work. I have 2 monitors at the office but we're working from home & I miss the extra real estate of the dual monitors. My desk at home is not open - I don't have space to have 2 monitors on it. Any suggestions are welcome.

3840x2160 is 4k?

I'm looking at these 3:

LG 32BL75U
Lenovo P32u-10
Dell U3415W

Does anyone have experience with any of those?

I use a U3417W at the office (except when WFH these days). It’s been a good display for 3 years. I like the ability of getting the benefits of two monitors without using the space of two 27” monitors.

The main gotchas of using a UHD 32” display is that it’s around 130 px/inch making things on screen smaller when using native resolution compared to most displays. Using it at “like 2560x1440” would make things a bit bigger than they would be on a 27 inch 1440p monitor. Using a 27” UHD display (or two) would be a better choice, as the Mac Pro should have no problem driving them while using “like 2560x1440”, but there’s issues with using 1.5x scaling like that when doing graphics work on macOS (same if you use “like 2560x1440” on the 32”), so just keep that in mind.

It might also help to know what sort of work you intend to do?

I bought a 27” monitor many years ago when HD was becoming the rage. I was shocked that I didn’t get more screen real estate - the icons & all were just bigger. I finally found a 30” monitor that kept the 16:9 ratio. When I switched to an iMac, my husband inherited the 30”. So, I want more screen real estate but not small icons. My older eyes couldn’t handle it. Basically, I want the same size of everything on the iMac, but with more room.

I don’t have the room on my desk for two monitors. 34” is about as big as I can get.

I’m a programmer & in the short term, I’ll just be doing that. Eventually, I will try my hand at some photo & video editing. My husband died in November & I want to go through all of his pictures & videos & do some things with them. If it were practical, I’d use a bigger monitor with the iMac but I just can’t. I don’t want a laptop & I don’t want a Mac Mini which is why I’m watching the Pro refurbished models.

So, after that TMI, what would I need in a 32 or 34 wide or ultrawide monitor to retain icon size but get more real estate. Or, is it just not possible without either small icons or larger icons but not much screen room.
