I'm sorry I just don't buy this. If this were the case it would be Apple specific. Its not. HP and Dell do not have these workstation chips yet either. All three companies competing with each other aren't going to hold back for "economy reasons", they'll do whats always been done and have a cheaper version running the older processors.

The difference is that the others have announced what they intend to do.
Professionals can make plans.

you have to think, Apple is really put their resources behind the new final cut pro and pushing forward with all other kinds of software. The developers at Apple need Mac Pros just as much as outside professionals. Not to mention now that Apple doesn't have a dedicated server they still need a machine that can be outfitted in ways only the Mac pro can be for enterprise. I don't forsee the Mac Pro going anywhere soon, it may be changed up a bit but I don't think it's going to be killed off.

Per above, Apple engineers do need workstations. It would be an intolerable embarrassment if they were to produce Apple products using some other company's machines...

We wait...

I actually think that would be quite comical. I would love to walk into Apple and watch the create a Mac Pro using a PC workstation that would be hilarious.

You can't force Apple to do anything.

Have a beer. Go outside. Find a hobby. There are better things to do with your time. Eventually Apple will announce something.

Maybe if the new Final Cut wasn't designed to run on an iPad in mind...

I just love a good "Let's grab our pitchforks and storm the castle!" thread.

The answer is there is nothing we can do to force answers from Apple. We wait, or we buy something else.

You'd think this would be the end of the thread or the reason we wouldn't see the thread.

It's perplexing when Apple doesn't update hardware and it always feels like they've abandoned it, but they have made decisions to abandon a line before and they're doing ok. Unfortunately that would mean people looking to replace the Mac Pro will have to buy something else. I wouldn't mind if that iMac had an anti-glare screen.

For your needs,an iMac wirh AG would be ok but not for me!
Our Mac Pro have 5 internal Dirve inside ( SDD and spinning)
And plenty of external too.. (Drive, NAS and minitor)
Its a PRO machine with server grade CPU.
Not a all-in-one-mobile-hardware-in-a-monitor device!
iMac is really fantastic computer for many people, but not for everyone.

I didn't tell you to buy an iMac but you should look elsewhere for hardware if you need to buy and won't buy what Apple currently offers.

We're "all-in" Apple....
All our workflow is Apple based.
And to paraphrase Steve : "We bleed in six color"
But it's a one sided love , Apple so not love us back.
Apple have one God-love ........ .......

Money.

1. Stop their sales

2. Demand what you want

3. Offer what you demand will be their benefit

In order to stop sales though, you have to control the people who are going to buy. Also, if apple strikes back, lets say you do get it right to stop everyone buying for some time, you have to keep everyone loyal.

Apple, or any other corperation is nothing comapre to what people have achieved in history. Power to the people :p

Apple is nothing without the customer...

The only sure method is to buy enough Apple shares to get yourself (or ourselves) enough influence. 51% would do it; that would take about $296 billion. Less if there are other Mac Pro allies on the board.

I have a few shares, so I'll vote with you. :)

Of course you are assuming they aren't making a new model MP anyway, which has not been proven to be true.

Here's the problem....

1) You can't force Apple to ship something they can't ship yet (or may never ship.) And if you get them to announce, it doesn't really change anything if you can't buy it.
2) It's not helping convince Apple that pro users aren't anything other than a loud pain in their ass.

If you don't like Apple's policies, don't buy their products. That should send enough of a message. Otherwise, wait another month. It's not going to kill you.

I don't think anyone can force Apple to do anything. To some extent with enough forum activity, maybe (and that is a big maybe) Apple might take notice and leak some info to calm things down, but I highly doubt it. I do think some noise is better than no noise and if we were all silent on this it may make it just a titch easier for them to shut the door on the MP.

How can we force Baskin-Robbins to tell us what their new, special summer flavor is gonna be? I'm hoping for a really good fruit sherbet without coconut....

My point exactly.... I miss Steve's little email... Those were short but powerful.

There have been a lot of pundits with Apple connections saying there will be an update. The only issue is that panicked pro users ignore them and only listen to the ones saying the Mac Pro is dead.

I don't know which way it will go, but there is a lot of predictions out there from people with connections to Apple. That's about as "leaky" as Apple gets.

It's so false.... maybe you don't remember AntenaGate, the Copy-paste on iphone, FinalCutPro thing or even when Steve have written a letter about Flash...
All those action was made because of public pressure...

What is really needed more than anything it's a site like this one (MacRumors) helping us to make this topic relevent...
Petition on change.org is another weapon
BTW 620+ days of waiting is more than enough.

1) You said he's accurate. His last Mac Pro prediction was that there would be an update in 2011.
2) He says in that video he could be wrong.

Anteneagate is the only thing on that list that fits.

Apple was going to do copy/paste anyway.

The plan with FCPX was always to add the higher end features back in.

Steve's letter on Flash was basically a giant middle finger to people whining about Flash.

Oh my gods will you stop talking. Any plans for the Mac Pro have been set in stone for the last year. "AntenaGate" (apparently you can't spell either) was an issue that affected a product that outsold the Mac Pro by a factor of at LEAST 20:1, so of course Apple is going to listen and address it. Copy-paste on the iPhone, are you freaking serious?

Get over it. Apple is over the Mac Pro. I'm a professional video producer, and I get along fine with an iMac attached to 30TB of drives over eSATA and Thunderbolt so I have no problems on the storage front, and while I wish the Mac Pro were newer and faster, I have to deal with the reality that we may get ONE more refresh out of that line, then I'll need to move on to other tools.

Any "torch and pitchfork" campaign you want to launch against Apple in terms of the Mac Pro will fail. Plain and simple. Get with the real world kid.

I agree , the letter was intended to nailed everyone... But after that we knew where they stand. I really doubt Steve would have come up with such a letter if we have been quiet and following all along.

For FCP
I was refering to the non ending complaint toward FCP. Steve adressed it by replying to a email...
Check this out to refresh some good memory
"I’m certainly not alone in my sentiments. Users from all over the world have been using the internet as an outlet to vent their frustration. Mac Soda reader Alex J. decided to let Steve Jobs know personally how he feels about the matter, and as though he were talking to the Lord God himself, simply asked for a sign.

Steve,

Getting worried about Apple’s interest in Final Cut. Last updates were not stellar. I heard a bunch of engineers were dropped too – give us a sign you still care about Pro Video, not just the iPad.

Thanks,

Alex

These days Mr. Jobs seems to be responding to everyone (he’s responded to all three of mine), with rather blunt answers. I guess he must’ve been in a good mood, because Alex got a whole three sentences worth, in which Mr. Jobs answered the three of the four questions that all video enthusiasts have been wondering aimlessly. 1) Does Apple care about Final Cut?, 2) Who were the Final Cut employees who got fired?, 3) Will the next release be any good?

We certainly do. *Folks who left were in support, not engineering. *Next release will be awesome.

Those definitely were the answers we wanted to hear. The fourth question, of course, is “When will the next release ship?”, and while he didn’t answer that lingering question, Mac Soda has it on reliable word that a new version will land by the end of 2010. While we don’t have a tangible product at the moment, we can take consolation in the fact that Apple cares about professional video, talent has not been cut from Final Cut, and the next release will in fact be awesome."

Putting pressure cannot hurt

Sure, but nothing actually changed. FCPX was in development for years, well before this letter was even sent.

Steve replied because he felt like it.He also said nothing about when the update would be, or what it would be. Also, that was Steve. Apple the computer company has no obligation to commit to anything, and you cannot force them to.

I mean, if letters to Tim Cook would make a difference, you're about five months late, there have already been tons of emails sent.

My point was that Steve commit/reassure us pro users when FCP was way pass du.
Mac pro as well as FCP is aimed at pro user who care less about hype stuff and such. Pro lives out of those software/computer and because of that the risk of facing a dead-end become more and more unbearable...

And i'm not late since new XEON was just annonced on march 6th...

There was already a push to send Apple feedback/write to Tim Cook in January when the rumors first started popping up.

And honestly, at this point, whatever is done is done. The new Xeons are shipping, old Xeons production is going to start ramping down. Apple has likely made their decision, and whatever course the Mac Pro is on has been set.

Whether they announce it today, tomorrow, or in a month doesn't matter. But they've likely already decided when the announcement will be.
