This is not news, the European sites have been quoting these times since mid March!

An update alongside new Ivy Bridge MBP 15 looks possible, this week or next week...

I don't know if you guys understand ....the thread isn't about how long it takes to get one delivered to your house.

Basically, if you choose an un-optioned Mac Pro, you can check to see if local stores have it in stock for pickup RIGHT NOW.

The OP discovered that none of the Northern California stores had stock of any model.

I looked here in SoCal and only a few stores had the base 4 core. (50% or fewer)

The thread isn't about order times, it is about whether or not the machines are sitting in stock at local Apple store. The OP is noting that it is odd that nobody has any inventory in their area.

Exactly. They pulled down the inventory because of the lack of demand for a highly-specialized computer that's two years old.

The Mac Pro has been showing as not being immediately available for in-store pickup in the Bay Area for some time as well. If you order in-store pickup, they order that the machine be shipped to the store, and then you can pick it up there.

Technically Apple could have launched a new Mac Pro at any time in the past few months because they're not shipping any to their retail stores. That said, I'm predicting an iPod-classic-like discontinuance.

Except again, pulled inventory shows up differently in the system. These aren't showing up as not carried at the store, they're showing up as not available for the next few days.

I don't recall any Mac being announced around the same time as the Apple earnings call that happens tomorrow.

No, I think it's a little... optimistic to say this is a sure sign they'll be updated tomorrow.

But I would be willing to buy this as a good sign they'll be updated in the next week.

Standard 4-Core and 8-Core Mac Pros are out of stock and give in-stock dates of April 27-28th in five out of six DFW Apple Stores.

I might add though. This exact same thing happened when the new Apple TV came out a couple of months ago. Whether or not Apple does this with Mac Pros I don't know.

I actually clicked into this thread expecting to see GGJstudios telling people off.

I meant to post a big fork in that Apple TV thread but I never got around to it. :p

Almost every store that I can find has the base models available on April 27th - only a few with them listed as in stock.

Seems long for a ship/configuration time when there is no configuration to be done...

Hoping...

** UPDATE **

So as I said before the only store showing any MP at all near Minneapolis MN was the mall of america store with the base quad modle. I checked it again a bit ago out of curiosity and accidentally added a second quad MP. When I checked the availability, the moa store shows up just like every other store within 500 miles... 27th of april.

Thought this was odd so I checked the New York stores. Earlier there was 4 or five showing them in stock. As soon as I upped my order to 2 mp's, every store shows up 27th of april.

I checked zip code after zip code and the same thing happened. Maybe 1 mp but never 2.

At first I thought maybe it was a hiccup with the site and it didn't necessarily reflect a stock of 1 mac pro in the store. But then, In Kansas City, MO I found possibly one of the only apple stores in the country to have 2 quad mp's in stock??

Not sure what to think of this. I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up (I'm in desperate need of a new computer) but its tough to ignore this... Something has to be up. Good or bad. When nearly every store in the country is out of stock, and the ones that have them have 1???

Any thoughts?

you could also add 3 iMac 27" high end to your cart and you will get the same delivery date for in store pick up. so - this means nothing or everything!

At least half the stores are showing a minimum of 5 high end iMacs and the low end is available in quantities up to as much as 15 in most stores near me. My thought is that they probably expect most people to configure the high end iMac. So does any given store really need a stock of more than 5?

Also, the mac pro is completely out in like 80% of stores and of that remaining 20% maybe half have *A* single Mac Pro in stock.

I'm sure Apple doesn't stock its stores with 20 MP's each for the same reason they have lower stocks of the high end iMacs. But I'm also quite positive that the entire Mac Pro line having ZERO stock in the large majority of apples physical locations is not normal.

I'm surprised that manufacturers are still making these old tech 2010 mac pro parts. It does seem to me that Intel really has been the biggest drag on advancing the Mac Pro in a more timely manner the last few years.

I doubt they are. I think what's more likely is apple bought a pile up front.

100% agree about intel though. Up until dell and hp announced their e-5 workstations the Mac pro was the next best thing. It would have been nice to get smaller updates over the last 2 years but I'm guessing slow sales resulting in a mountain of 5870s detered such updates. And we all knew apple wouldn't make a major update without new cpu's. It's too bad it took intel this long but, they are finally here. Let's just hope apple hasn't forgotten Next, Pixar, and all of the professionals who can't make thire living with an iPad.

I get the feeling that they fully expect this ability in the not too distant future.

Me too... But the technology doesn't exist yet. So DANGIT APPLE, give me my Mac Pro!!! Ha getting a little desperate but I just have this gut feeling that my 08 MBP ( which was perfect for student workflow) isn't going to make it to an update. Then I won't have any other choice than to build a pc.... I know it wouldn't be the end of the world (ok it seriously might be) but it's tough to imagine doing design work on anything but a mac

The refurb store is also down to just a few mac pros whereas lately, there have been multiple MPs listed.

The thing about Pixar is they never used Apple hardware for rendering. Remember when Steve Jobs got on stage at an Intel conference and announced that Pixar had replaced all it's rendering farms with Pentiums years before Apple switched?

I just called the Oak Brook & Naperville, IL stores and they have good stock of Mac Pros. Although, it took a couple of minutes for the clerk at the Oak Brook store to fully understand that I wasn't interested in the MacBook Pro.

Yeah... That's the thing... If they were pulling them out of the stores, why do some stores still have them?
