What nikon is that I have a nikon 2200 from '86

High Quality Shot of my set up.

Also, though not really a mac pro, if this was 1992 it would be like one. This is my commodore amiga 4000 video toaster with highflyer expander. This this can run 8 NTSC monitors :) And it has 5 hard drives, not bad for 1992 tech. I have one cause it was the first non-linear video editing computer.

That was a great computer, and I loved my toaster!!

Thought I'd resurrect this thread rather than starting a new one. Chair arrived today to complete the setup for my new Mac Pro, thought I'd share:

I tagged the toys in the photo on Flickr

The desk is custom built from solid birch Ikea worktop (thankfully my father's great at all the DIY stuff and had a router and various other wood-working tools to do the curve etc.) and the units are from Ikea as well. Chair is a Herman Miller Aeron and the Mac Pro is listed in my signature!

(The desk is all the same wood, but the left hand piece is at 90 degrees to the other bits so in the light it looks a lighter colour from this angle. Wood is a remarkable substance!)

Good choice! :D

Gorgeous setup. I'm totally digging the wooden floor and desk!
But that massive cheese grater (what's that for anyway?) on your desk belongs to the floor. :p;)

So I can accidentally damage both it AND the chair when I accidentally swing round too fast?! No thanks :) Besides, if it sat on the floor it would pull in more dust and it's much easier to get at the ports when it's sitting on my desk.

The floorboards are original (the building dates from 1903) and I felt it was worth spending the extra on the solid wood worktop (even if it does weigh a ton!)

Fair enough. Personal preference really. It certainly looks nice enough to be placed on the desk. Personally, I prefer it hanging under the desk, though.

Hmm that is nice, I do wonder if that combined with a panel to the side to prevent me accidentally kicking it would work well... Might be worth looking into (although it will just mean I have even more desk space to cover in papers I can't be bothered filing away...) :)

very nice! love the natural light. my office space looks like a dungeon compared to that. :D

I agree. Nice open space with natural light.

 Nooo! Makes it too hard to reach the power button and front USB ports. :D :p

And keeping it on the desk also reduces the rate it will accumulate dust inside vs. the floor. ;)

Haha, yeah right. :D

Definitely. Especially on standard non-industrial carpets that thing is like a Hoover. Some servicable dust filters would be really nice. But that would either drastically increase the price (we know Apple!) and/or decrease their margins and we know that won't happen. Pity.

I finally gave in and bought a Mac Cuff and fitted it today. Thanks for the recommendation! The main reason for getting it was that I was gradually getting more annoyed with the fans and hard disk noise. After having a laptop for so long even the really low, barely audible Mac Pro fans were getting annoying that close. Much better now it's under the desk, although it does just give me more space to cover in papers (as I knew would happen)...

This is my Mac Pro Setup

I like this setup a lot... I currently have two nice 24" IPS monitors and building my own desk from scratch, but I was curious as to how wide your desk is (just the white part). I want to accommodate my two monitors as well as my Yamaha HS80m speakers, but also have room for a third monitor if needed (i do audio, video, and photo... so a third monitor could be usefull). My plans are currently 78 inches, but I may go a little bigger if needed. I am also building a second tier (similar to yours) for my monitors and speakers that is planned to be 6 inches... how tall is yours?

thanks!

Nine setup and sexy chair. I went to see a Herman Miller chair(refurbished) in person today and very comfortable. Do you mind sharing how much did you pay for yours? Did you pay extra for polish frame? please pm the information if you can.

2009 2.93 Quad, 16GB RAM, hardwired to PowerMac G5 Server with the Terabytes in another room, Yamaha HS80M studio monitors, crappy folding chair

Since then, chair has been upgraded, and a Yamaha HS10W subwoofer has been added under the desk.

I got the gold package from www.aeronchairuk.com/ and paid about £1050 inc VAT if memory serves. Worth every penny to be honest, had no back pain at all since I got it set up and really notice the difference when I spend time working at a client's site (or in a hotel room) with a big standard office chair.

Whoa, that's quite the chair, I guess! I'm on something left out in the hallway at the last apartments I lived at, hahaha! Can't say it gives me any back pain, but I do have to lube the squeaks away now and then.

Very nice. I have the same studio monitors and have been thinking of adding the HS10W sub. Would you say its a worthwhile addition?

Basically, yes. As you know, the 80's do have a nice bass response. Now, with the crossover on the sub, the 80's are used for highs and mids. This technique has really cleared up the mids on bass-y songs.

It has balanced out the sound very well, I recommend it. It is also well built like the 80's are.

Does everything but the Dishes!

Sure, the studio might be a tad rustic...

I use the EOS utility to control and trigger the DSLR from the MP. A Yeti for the voice overs.

Everything just happens so fast...

Cool, thanks for the review. I'll definitely keep my eye out for an HS10W. :)
