What external case is that? Looks like the macally one, only better.

Absolutely.. I bought it from a vendor on eBay actually. Their ID is ATechSupply, was a very good transaction. Mine was shipped from Millington, TN so I'm guessing a drop ship type deal, but it was the latest/greatest revision/firmware and has been fantastic. There are reports of earlier builds having some issues, in fact I talked with a member here on MR about problems he was having, here is the thread: LP2475w Discussion/Issue

I will say though that if you do decide to go for the HP, either borrow or invest in a calibrator. The difference was significant before/after and this is echoed in many of the reviews online, it's just not calibrated very well out of the box.

The only thing I could complain about is that when it is cold and comes on, it takes a minute or so for everything to 'warm up' and the colors to come up to calibrated levels. This is not uncommon with LCD's that use traditional back lighting (non LED).

For the price, I could not be happier. Has 2 dvi, 1 display port, 1 hdmi, USB 2.0 (6 ports) and comes with a fantastic stand. I have mine mounted to an articulating arm, but would be very happy with the stand if I used it.

Hope that helps! :)

Very much appreciated :)

Thanks.

Yup... it has a dial on the back that lets you set the RAID type or change it to JBOD.

Wait so If I had everything on raid 0 and then I turned the switch by mistake all my old data would become corrupted right? that sounds like a bad idea.

You would a message on the screen that says "The disk inserted is not readable and must be initialized" or something to that effect. So you'd click "Ignore", realize your mistake, and change the switch back.

About 50% of the time I have my computers setup like this:

2008 MacPro
2.8ghz 8 core
hooked up to the 20" ACD

And beside it, I have my 15" unibody MBP.

The mouse and keyboard are shared between the two via Synergy.

Oh and my iPhone and iPod on either side.

During the other 50% of the time (usually when I'm studying) I have the laptop taken off and just the MacPro to save some desk space.

Alright, I'll bite.

Most of the furniture is Ikea. Desks are the black version of the "Galant" series with T-legs. Ikea doesn't advertise it, but the entire Galant system is pretty modular and more then happy to be bolted together, so the entire desk surface spans almost two entire walls.

No, the big red button doesn't do anything.

How did you get your Cinema display to reach your mac pro?

TSchiewe, hate to ask a similar question that all of us who have no clue about furniture are asking, but where did you get the desk? I know I can make my own, but.... I'd rather not. I don't have a shop, but I have the tools (stupid, neh?) and they're, well, scary to use.

Is that a mini-fridge? If it is, how do you get work done, oddity? :D

> How did you get your Cinema display to reach your mac pro?

6FT DVI Dual-Link Extension Cable (DVI Male -> Female).

The cable was something like $20. Plus a USB cable, a Firewire cable, and a Firewire Female->Female adapter (for extension). Together it cost less then $50.

Couldn't extend the power adapter (obviously), that's sitting under the CD rack closest to the Cinema (next to the Airport).

Haha its actually just a table top from Ikea, I didn't really like any of the desks they had. Its from the section where you pick the table top and legs.

Does the extension hurt the quality of the picture at all?

Here is my 2008 Mac Pro alongside my expansion box--an old G5 Expansion Bay Case Mod--designed for Video Editing.

8 Core 3.2GHz, 9TB so far--12 of 28 drive bays used, Dell 24" Display.

I'm putting Wireless N in later this week, so I can use it as an access point, and for "Snatch" control.

My Mac Pro has a few internal mods, with a cool one going in soon. I'll post on it when it's done.

Can I see the mods?

Thanks for the complement. The case was a bit beat up, it is intended more for work than for show. In some of the pictures you can see the nicks and dings in the case.

It still needs a little work, but I use it every day. Next up is a fan control to quiet it down. I want to put in a big order for TB drives, but can't decide which drives to get. I have four Seagates in my Mac Pro "Pisces", and mostly WDC drives in the expansion box I call Pisces II.

In any event, I have higher priorities right now as the sailing season is starting and I have four boats to prep.

There is a thread on my G5 Case mod. It is posted on Mac Mods forum.

I have another interesting mod I've been doing to my Mac Pro, but want to finish it and post it all at once. A few parts I ordered from NewEgg have been delayed.
