> Does the extension hurt the quality of the picture at all?

Nope. Not at all.

I had issues a /long/ time ago extending VGA, but never DVI. At one point I had a Wacom sitting on the same desk on the left portion, and the DVI cable was something like 12FT (plus the slack on the Wacom itself). Worked fine.

I believe I mentioned this in an older post -- but I'm generally not constantly monitoring on them; just checking every now and then to make sure things look right (generally, checking for interlace issues). Since they're not in constant use, I find it's easier to keep them off to the side rather than cluttering my desk (kind of OCD that way)...

I'm considering getting a larger (~13") NTSC monitor and placing it above the LCDs (there's a ~2-3' ledge there) -- but because of my usage patterns it's not a top priority.

Want to know the best place to put your monitors? On my wall! I know you don't want those peskey monitors, or editing board... or mac pro. I will hold on to them for you. :D

(Im joking BTW, just incase)

I'm one of the few weird freaks that places their MP on the desktop. My setup needs to remain modular as it changes placement frequently and this desk allows for simple mobility.

The Mini pictured acts as a print server, offline (preview) webserver, and an XBMC machine.

I'd love to put mine on the floor where it would be quieter. The problem with that is the amount of dust they collect down low. That will mean cleaning it ten times as often.

Instead I think I will eventually put the two boxes back to back behind my monitor and move my speakers out of the way...

I can't tell. Do you have carpet there? That tends to reduce the dust in the air somewhat.

Here be mine then.

2009 2.66 Quad + 22" Dell 2209WA. Custom built the desk with a bit of work top, love it.

Cable tidying took a while as well, and a lot of cable ties of course. 5 port network switch mounted to the bottom of the desk, as well as my wireless mouse receiver. Next idea would be some USB ports built into the top somehow, not sure how I'll do that though, will have to machine it out somehow, thats more of an idea than in a WIP.

Might see if I can stretch to fitting a second 2209 on the desk, bit I think it'll be pushing it a little, we'll see.

Not bad. Have you thought about mounting the power strip underneath? That what I do. My power strip is screwed to a big bookshelf that is mounted to the wall. I hang my speakers, a radio, and a Wifi access point all underneath the book case.

That sounds like a great idea! I need to get rid of all this junk...

But seriously, LOL - yeah, I caught the joke ;)

Here's my work desk from a year ago. That's a 23" Cinema Display (for scale). The main decorative "item" was a gift from my wife. It's a messy workspace, but very inspirational. Though I don't have the new Mac Pro yet, it will go in this space when it arrives.

The room is carpeted. It's easier to see by clicking on the picture to enlarge it. ImageShack's thumbnail seems to be too small and grainy to really see what's going on in the pic.

Messy is real life, and nice decoration. :)

The shelf just to the left that you can kind of see the edge of is full of those biodegradable plastic flip-boxes 8 across by 9 high (the top two rows [16 boxes] are filled with 200+ DVDs each). :D all labeled and stuffed to the brim full. :D On the right side there's... hehehe you get the idea. :D I want a bigger desk tho - but then where do I put all of my keyboards, guitars, and photo equipment? Ah.. I need a bigger room! :D

I put my Mac Pro on a shelf right next to my Desk:

I did not want to put it on the floor for the same reasons,
Too much dust and carpet pick up into the computer if you place them on the floor.

Just some 3" screws into the studs, and it doesn't budge at all.

Black Keys On The Wired Keyboard?

can u put up a link to that keyboard, thats looks sooo cool!

Also to all the editors out there: Are NTSC monitors really needed? 1 monitor costs more then my entire set up  I have 2 NTSC monitors for my commodore, should I hook them up to my pro instead?

Tell me how?

Had to put my new 2.26 on the desk- the 24" LCD cord is too short! The external HD is makes more noise than the MacPro! This was a upgrade from a 2003 2x2.0 G5. Big difference. Hope this is the workhorse that the G5 was/is.

Those.... those.... SCREENS! Those screens look amazing! Do they match up in terms of resolution?

They match up pretty close, but just 80 pixels off: 2560 x 1600 is next to 1050 x 1680

Standard 20" would be the best, but Apple doesn't make those :(

80 pixels isnt bad. My set up is off by 832 pixels on the right and 700 on the left. :D lol now that I think of it, its really kind of funny how different they really are.

hey..

In it's messy state:

.

got the same screen, a nikon and on dpreview most of the time(well not any more, detoxing for now ;p).

How are you finding the screens for editing? Or you dont do any digital work?

Calibrated mine, it was okay but lost the calibration after a format. Hate the contrast variation on the screen myself :).

p.s im still waiting on my mac pro though :)

First MacPro. Wanted one for about 4 years, decided I would get one for getting into the best design uni in Australia, and also for my 21st Birthday Present to myself =)

just the standard 2.8 for the moment. AppleCare and more ram to come.
