I'm planning on ordering mine this week. :D I wonder if I will have to wait the full 3-4 weeks now that Apple has begun shipping the early orders? I would assume the delay has come from not having the parts, and now there is a backlog of orders? It's going to suck if all BTO continue with the 3-4 week schedule! If Apple can catch-up on the backlog and can keep the parts on-hand, one would assume the BTO times will decrease. Maybe a week to 10 days?

I dont understand why apple did this. They announce that the mac pro was shipping on the day of the WWDC and then, almost a month later, no one has theirs. It's killing me. But congrats, be sure to tell everyone how it is once you get it :D

um lots of people have theirs. its only the people who ordered the X1900 upgrade that have had to wait.

I'm with you there, I ordered on the 19th and my status hasn't changed yet, getting more excited though. :)

Which still puzzles me, since it wasn't like either the card or the PCI-e standard was new... I'm guessing this was a shady Apple/ATI deal to unload obsolete ATI stock in time for the X1950 XTX.

I ordered on the 7th with an estimated September 12th ship date, and nothing has changed for me still. The orders definitely aren't shipping by order date though.

Yeah I was trying out what formula Apple was using. Some have been told that it was by date ordered but that's total BS. I thought it might have been systems with wireless first (like UnixMacs) but some other people with wireless haven't had theirs shipped yet either. I almost get the feeling they pass a satchel around with all the web order numbers, pick one out at random and then build and ship that one. LOL

ATI would still have to manufacture the cards for Apple, since the only UGA cards on the market right now are custom jobs for Apple. I can see a delay, although manufacturing issues would have had to come up for them to delay this much.

But I mean, the X1900 XT has been out for six months and Apple has been switching to Intel even before that. I really think it's an ATI "liquidate the X1900 XT inventory" sale, otherwise why wouldn't they have started stockpiling way before the Mac Pro announcement? I bet they're buying the suckers for $150 a pop from ATI.

Its a shame that Apple couldn't have shipped the x1950 xt with these but hey ho. I don't think the fact that these are the only UGA cards really justifies their lateness because ATI have been supplying cards (albeit built in ones) with UGA bioses since January. An Apple X1900 XT is only a regular X1900 XT with a UGA bios after all.

You can't just reflash an old-style card with UGA firmware though. UGA is a firmware that contains BIOS /and/ EFI-friendly video firmware. From what someone gathered on the 7300GT... the firmware is nearly double the size of the standard 64KB nVidia ROM chips. Unless the x1900 was originally released with this in mind, they can't just use a regular x1900, they have to remanufacture the cards from parts.

You claimed to be frustrated because Apple announced the Mac Pro as shipping immediately and then now "no one has theirs". Plenty of people have theirs, and they're in stock at local Apple stores and everything. Just no ATI Mac Pros.

Aw, Pa! I was winning!

On a more on topic note, my ATI Mac Pro is still resolutely staying where it is. Rather annoying. I'm currently in agreement with kered22's theory of Apple shipment technique.

Well, whoever gets their machine first and loads up Windows needs to dump the x1900 rom and post it for the world. :)

I agree. While the x1900s are now more reasonably priced for BTO orders, the stand alone card is still quite expensive. If standard x1900s can indeed be flashed then this will give people a nice upgrade path for stock machines in the future.

Congrats! Dell Rotation Support? Noise?

$2500.

As soon as it arrives, I'll be benchmarking it to death. My plans are:

• Aperture w/ x1900
• Final Cut
• Bootcamp gaming on the x1900
• Internal SATA connectors
• DVD Rips

If there's any other unresolved benchmarks, I'm taking requests :D
Congrats! Dell Rotation Support? How loud is it?

Reports have pretty much confirmed that rotation is not supported. But I've got two 2407's so I'll give it a shot anyway. It can't hurt.

I'm anxious to see how loud it is. Everyone has been praising the mac pro's acoustic volume and a loud fan on a GPU would be a bummer. I'll certainly be able to tell--the room it'll be in is nearly silent (when my beast of a PC isn't running, that is).

I Will Be Surprised If The x1900 XT Does Not Support Rotation On Dell Monitors

I don't think we know that yet. It was supported on a very lowly ATI card in the Dual 2.5 GHz G5 way back in 2004. The support is obvious when you open the Monitors System Preference Pane. If it does, you will see rotation options to the right of the profile listings.

Me too.
Confirmed The ATI x1900 DOES Support Dell Rotation
