Uhhh, what?

Universal Binary. The original Halo was not made to run on intel macs and runs under rosetta. The UB version is supposed to give better performance on certain Ppc macs and make the game native under intel macs. Its like a $5 update, if you already have Halo.

Well I got the disc last year at christmas, and it has the universal binary logo on it, so I guess I'm covered there.

If you got the UB logo on the box then you are covered. But if you haven't updated it since last xmas, you may want to grab the latest update that came out this year. Follow lancestraz's link.:)

Any new version may have bug fixes and is worth having.

I just tried Halo (latest version) in Leopard on Intel, and it seemed fine. I joined a server, and all controls (jump, use, forward) worked.*

Maybe try creating a fresh player profile?

* I did not see my old player profile or saved games. It's possible I never copied that data to this machine, but I think I did. Will investigate further.

Well I'm not on a PPC mac (although I'll use that for my iBook when I get the chance) so is it gonna make a difference?

The update is usually an installer, all you have to do is run it. As to whether it will make a difference (performance?) maybe dependent on your configuration. A description from the installer says:

Overall performance on Intel Macs has been improved by up to 25% over the original Universal Binary version, depending on graphics configuration.

According to the support pages it does fix some issues people have been having:

This update improves performance for PowerPC based systems and some Intel systems, fixes graphical errors, custom multiplayer game type issues and also allows the program to run properly from a case-sensitive drive. Version 2.0.2 also fixes an issue with the "A" key and incorporates a VSYNC fix.

Alright then, I'll try it.

EDIT: Well, I installed it, and it didn't work. :( Also, on top of that, the graphics quality went way down. I checked all the settings, and they were all at high.

Ow.

Hmmm... if you are still having issues with movement and you repaired permissions and now updated. It could be some of the halo files got corrupted, which could require a reinstall.

Before you do anything like that make sure that in your settings none of your keyboard commands (like spacebar for jump) accidently got deleted or reassigned to a different key. I've had that happen to me in other games by accident (miss-key), by an update (had to reset to default to get everything working again), by my preferences getting corrupted (had to delete preferences file to return everything to normal). Its a small thing, but you may want to check that out first.

You said you checked the settings and "they were all at high" is this what you normally have them at or did the game default to this after the update?

Hmm, it seems I forgot to repair permissions (and for that matter, forgot how to.) And yeah, I normally have all the settings set at high.

Use disk utility in utilities folder in your applications folder. Verify and repair permissions. You may also want to verify that your disk is working well. If it is not you may have to boot from OSX install disk to repair it with the disk utility on disk.

OK, Thursday might work for me. I'm not sure if I'm going out that night or not. I'll know tomorrow.
And yes, 9pm EST is 6pm PST. I use this website to make time charts.

All final game times will be posted in this thread. along with all other necessary info, so subscribe to it! Though usually someone will post here too.

First make a backup of your entire maps folder and set it to "read-only".
To use modded maps just move them into the maps folder (which is located inside the Halo.app, right click Halo and select "Show package contents", the maps folder is in "Contents>Resources>GameData").

Thanks for all the info!
Just one question, why would i want to backup my maps folder, if all i am doing is adding a map to it?

so what do i do if i want to play the original map? cant i just rename the modded map to like "Infinity2"

Because the halo maps folder is 1.37 GB big, i dont want to have 2 of those folders on my HD. I guess i could just backup the files i am replacing with modded ones though.

On my system I moved only the maps I was replacing with modded maps into a new folder I called "regular halo maps". I also made another folder called modded maps, because there may be 3 or 4 different mods you play for like blood gulch. This way I just swipe the maps back and forth.

Anybody, ever play the New Mombassa Classic map?
