Meeting finished and Mac Studio/Display powered up. A few observations:
  1. I can’t hear the Mac unless I put my ear right next to the fan. The fan is running as the dining room (where I’m setting it up) has that wonderful new electronics smell
  2. The Studio Display is stunning (but my old iMac 27” display was half the pixel density). The early reviewers had clearly been spoilt by the Pro Display XDR
  3. The Monterey update is big but downloaded quickly over Starlink
  4. The Studio Display has an update but it won’t install. I will try again once Monterey has finished updating.
  5. I‘m setting it up as new rather than migrating from my iMac - there is too much crap on there
Overall I‘m very pleased as fears over fan noise and display quality were (in my case) unfounded.

The transfer for me was fast - about 10 mins over thunderbolt.

Setup wasn't painful, but ok.

I'm stuck in meetings for the next few hours, so I can't play more.

For all the people that said theirs left Hong Kong today, what was the original shipping date?

Mine shipped (and arrived in HK) on April 2. Still no hint of movement, but if 7 days is the magic number hopefully it’ll be on its way again tomorrow.

My Studio Display arrived on the last day of the original date window. It's well worth the wait.
My card got a pre authorization yesterday, Studio Display ordered 9 March, expected April 6-13. I’m getting the VESA mount. The Max Studio arrived on Tuesday.

Now i'm nervous. Mine shipped two days ago and is still in Hong Kong. UPS says delivery by EOD Monday but after reading all of these posts I'm thinking it'll be stuck there for a week or so too. UGH!
Yup. Exactly the same. Arrived in Chek Lap Kok yesterday.. crickets...

Keep in mind that Hong Kong is apparently in a pretty severe COVID outbreak and subsequent lockdowns.
I hope we can keep our impatience versus their health and safety in perspective!
That's a good point. I know these worldwide product launches are more exciting, but I wonder if Apple has discussed going back to staggered product launches around the world like they used to do.

Completely agree - first world problem, let's hope the staff are safe and well and reminds me how much we rely on them. My frustration is the lack of info from UPS and the obviously missed deadlines. All it needs is someone in Europe or US to post something about the problem and set an expectation (if only holding pattern).

Yesterday, apple emailed me to say there would be a 2-4 week delay... then today the studio shipped out on time.

Strange, but good!

Placed an order for the Base Mac Studio a few days ago. This will be my first Mac and is way overkill for my needs but I want it to last a long time. My original order was going to be about a month out, but got an email a few days ago saying it should ship by next week so looking forward to it.

There might be an additional 2 week delay due to the Covid situation in HK.
New customer Mac Ultra orders look to take 4 months! This is the new normal, Apple will need to start thinking about bringing factories back to the US. This whole global lowest wage arbitrage looks to be breaking down.
