Unless you went back and edited the post I quoted, you said loudest computers in recent history. Not loudest mac, but loudest computers. If you keep repeating it, be sure to make it clear you are speaking about macs. This post is 26 pages and has been active for some time. I don’t scan all 26 pages every time there is a reply.

Demanding people on a forum do things for you when you haven't read the thread title or first post - Nice.

Uh I read it a month ago. Like I said, in all 26 pages I don’t know if the conversation has shifted. I really don’t know why you are fighting this so much. You can’t expect me to read 652 posts every time this thread gets updated and keep a string on the dozens and dozens of thoughts going on. You said computers not apple computers in the post I quoted.

I'm not fighting Ethosik, my post was slightly inaccurate but that's because over time the context has been built up and you take shortcuts. So when you drop in 600 messages and have missed the context - fine, you missed it, that's not a problem - But demanding things - it's like dropping into a real-life conversation an hour in and demanding that the person talking should explain themselves to you. They don't have to do anything.

Additionally, I'm not sure many people would have taken from that post that the Mac Studio - a computer the size of a lunchbox - was the loudest computer in the whole wide world knowing that Apple prides itself on its sound engineering, it doesn't have big enough fans to do that and they aren't exactly delta fans. It's incredibly redundant to have to clarify that it isn't the loudest computer [at idle] [in the world].

Dude, you are severely annoying. Just freaking stop it already.
I asked a freaking question! OMG, I asked for clarity.

To quote the statement I had questions about:

it's going to be the loudest computers at idle in recent history.

I wanted to make sure it was not as loud as my 3080 7 fans setup! Geez people. I am the annoying one? I come accross a comment like that, in a thread filled with WAY WAY WAY over the top analysis on db here and db there and all I wanted to know is if it was louder than my PC.

Because other people will drop in and it won't be just me and they will think the exact same thing! Just keep the context 26 pages in. That would have saved ALL of these posts and conversations if you JUST added three letters - MAC instead of giving people (me) the assumption you are now speaking for ALL of computers. I asked for clarification and got it. So stop trying to irritate me by "OMG you didn't read the TITLE!!!!!". Because it could very well be the opposite! "We have broadened our topic of discussion, please read post XYZ and not base it all entirely on the title". I have had those responses. I have been here for over 10 years, I have had those conversations that morphed outside the scope of the title, dropped in 20 pages deep and derailed it because it SHIFTED from the title.

Right - ok. Well done for derailing the thread for a page. Let’s see if anyone else makes the mistake…

The Mac Studio is one of the loudest computers in the whole wide world. Your ears will literally bleed if you get this - you have been warned.

This is not helping. I am not in the business if "buy it try it and return it" business. I work day in and day out, I can't devote the time to try X return X try Y return Y, but I do prefer quiet systems. So I depend on reviewers and forums to help.

Is it loud - YES or NO. Is it louder than Windows PCs? Yes or No? THAT IS ALL I WANT ANSWERED.

ETHOSIK, YOU CAN SHOUT AS LOUD AS YOU WANT. BUT I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER MY MAC STUDIO!

From my experience with my Studio Ultra it is one of the quietest Mac's I have ever owned, All the previous desktop Macs from IIci to the 2012 Power Mac where louder, the only Mac's that were beat it for less noise that I owned were the Original 128K Mac, the MacPlus, assorted laptops and my Mac Mini. It is not near as loud as any PC I have owned or used.

Thank you. I am really hoping that is the case but this thread REALLY scares me about the noise level on a $5,000 priced system (the specs I need).

And your question was answered 5 times over. Yet, you had to go on with your semantics nonsense and drag the whole thing out over numerous messages. You are not adding anything to the discussion. Just stop.
Because of the wonderful attitude I got as a response. Every thread on this site lately everyone is just down everyones throat and its very tiring. I have been using this site for 10 years and its just getting so irritating people not being nice to each other.

I see only one person here with an attitude, and that's you. Get over it.

"Do I need to say MAC every time in this thread" That is the response I got. Not a yes or no response if its louder than a 7 fan sytem to my damn question at the time, just that single response.

Where is the response here? Is it louder than my Windows PC, yes or no? Why is it so difficult to get answers on this site anymore.

You can’t see that telling someone who hadn't made an over the top comment for all the reasons that were explained prior, was the cause of the “attitude” that you are more often encountering - maybe you need to change the way you approach to get a better response.

The answer to your question is in post 1 of the thread for yours and everyone’s benefit.

But to give you your own argument back, you should specify your exact fan type, decibel rating, fan size and fan speed before we’ll give you an answer.

People like to help people that help themselves, first. Not those whom are being demanding or demeaning.

And how exactly am I expected to do this? I don't have the equipment to measure db. Like I said all this "db this db that" is not helpful for some people like me. At this stage if I need to buy equipment to record audio and measure and do statistical analysis, it sounds like yes it is way too loud for anyone to use so I should just cancel my order and not bother with it. I work 16 hour days, I don't have time to try X return X try Y return Y, measure and perform stats and get equipment. I will just cancel the order until something else comes along.

Apologise/reconcile with me - and I’ll help you.

Nevermind, I am just going to cancel my order. Not going to derail this topic any more. Thought it was just an easy question 7 fan setup if the Mac Studio is louder than that, but if I need to get to measuring decibels then it is just not worth it.

I'm really torn here...

I'm growing more and more attached to my M1 Ultra, therefore I would like to avoid sending it back (especially given how it would take 12 weeks to get a replacement).

On the other hand my unit is one of those with the high pitch noise and it's really annoying...
The fan noise I don't mind, as it is a low pitched sound similar to white noise, and easily drowned by music, but the high pitched whine cuts through it and whenever I'm not listening to music, it's quite annoying.

Do you have any tips on how to minimize the issue?
Once again, given the 12 weeks of wait, I'd rather not send it back and from what I'm seeing Europe mostly gets the units made in China, which are more frequently afflicted by the "whistle sound".

Cheers <3

There is quite a lot of ideas written out in this topic.
In short:
You can use software like TG Pro or Macs Fan Control to reduce the fan speed from 1300 to 1100 rpm
You may want to try different positioning of the device
You can hope for Apple to update the firmware

I think reducing the rpm was most efficient in my case.
Also when I keep the machine running (disable sleep) the chirping sound reduces after time.
So far I have had only two boots with this computer. first uptime was 12 days, second uptime is at 4 days now. Based on my hearing I have the impression when running at a certain frequency for a longer duration the fans might adjust to rpm/voltage somehow.
In its current state at idle my Mac studio (Max) is still more recognizable than my m1 mini. MacBook Pro or iMac Pro. Although it is only a quiet sound of moving air ("woosh").
Unfortunately the chirping noise returns when rebooting.

I understand your conundrum but a $4000 computer should not make the kind of noise you are experiencing. So on principle alone I would send it back.

I would get it replaced, too. There is no excuse for having a whine noise like coil whine or similar from an Apple product. Get it replaced as often as needed until you receive a unit that doesn't have the whine noise. That will cost Apple money, and that's what they deserve for this.
