Well firstly, you can downgrade it. Either clean install 10.11.3 or restore from a 10.11.3 backup. See posts 195, 205 and 212 for details.

Secondly if you want a refund for the free 10.11.4 update, that's a refund of $0.
I called apple support and their is no apple approved way to downgrade to 10.11.3 without backups. The blame should not be on the customer since I didn't back up with time machine but rather just saved the files. So I would have to void the warranty in order to make my macbook pro retina reliable again. Additionally, since it came preloaded with El Captain, I can not downgrade to Yosemite.

Downgrading to 10.11.3 using the methods I described will not void the warranty.

If you are not going to backup before updating your system, I would be more inclined to blame you for not having a backup. That was your choice.

I see your point about the warranty. However, blaming the customer because they did not back up with time machine is idiotic and insulting. That my friend is called victim blaming and should not be tolerated especially seeing how we handed over 1300+ dollars for a working computer not to have to rig it to make it work.

That my friend is called victim blaming

Well I agree with you here. I am blaming you. You are a victim of YOUR choice not to make a backup.

You should make a backup before updating.

Anyway, in the absence of a backup you could still downgrade to 10.11.3 as a clean install.

Comments like your's are the reason why computer companies are reactive and not proactive about their faulty software. Additionally, you are essentially telling apple that it is ok that the software is flawed because you can downgrade and delay fixing the software. We should be proactive and demand this be fixed ASAP rather than blaming the users....

Serously tywebb13 you have a problem. Everyone here is trying their best to find a solution, and you just hinders. Get your act together, if you don'y have something smart to say than don't say anything at all. I just like others did not backup, and don't even want to. If you pay that much for a computer, that computer needs to run bug free or at least with some minor bugs, but freeze every day and loosing work because of that, it is not acceptable. So don't act like you are smartest here, if you can help go help others, but if you can't and just spam back up your computer(downgrade) then just stay away.

I don't have an external hard drive for this. Is that my fault as well?

Yeah. It is. If you are going to update, then you should backup first.

Also, although I will blame users for not backing up, then updating and finding problems - I am not necessarily blaming them for the problems themselves.

I think the freezing problem was in the final build of 10.11.4 and not in the betas. So in future, apple need to make the final build as close as possible (if not, identical) to the final beta so as to minimise the chance that a new untested bug is introduced into the final version - which seems to be what has happened here.

I also don't agree with several posts here in this thread and on other forums saying that apple are in denial. There are several bug reports on the issue and those not labelled as duplicate are still open.

I have experienced this countless times and video taped it where the system freezes and all the keys and trackpad locks up but the music continues and I must hold the power button to turn the computer off.
Does anyone with legal knowledge know whether or not their are any legal ramifications seeing as Apple does not allow you to downgrade and consequently entrap their users on this new software. More importantly, their customer support are not acknowledging that it is a software issue by placing the blame on the customers. So if it can be proven that it is their faulty software, either they must allow their users to downgrade with apples permission or they refund the product. I wonder if the lemon law could apply for all of these users?
You can downgrade to 10.11.3 from a backup, that's what I've done. It's not a fix, but I think that because that's possible there's no ground for any legal implications.

so far, the only (single) freeze i had was in 10.11.4 final. no problems in 10.11.5pb1, and so far, no freeze in 10.11.5pb2. hope it's a sign...i have been on youtube number of times, i do have flash, i am on safari...

Well that's good. But others have said in this thread and other forums that the 10.11.5 betas 1 and 2 are still freezing. So I don't think we can see these betas as a solution yet.

But it will be interesting to see what happens with the 10.11.5 beta 3. Maybe they will fix it by then.

It is also possible they will release a supplemental update to 10.11.4 so that we won't have to wait for 10.11.5.

If a supplemental update for 10.11.4 is released the version number will be the same but the build number will be higher than 15E65.

Just like snow leopard 10.6.8. There was a supplemental update increasing the build number from 10K540 to 10K549.

or lion 10.7.5 increasing build number from 11G56 to 11G63.

or mountain lion 10.8.2 increasing build number from 12C54 to 12C60.

or mountain lion 10.8.5 increasing build number from 12F37 to 12F45

or yosemite 10.10.3 increasing build number from 14D131 to 14D136

just had two crashes in a row on the new 10.11.15 beta 2, first was randomly browsing on chrome, second was when I was watching my crashed video that I filmed on quicktime.

Okay, so, I completely erased my hard drive, installed a fresh OS X, and, 10 minutes into using safari (without installing any new software or getting any of my files onto my Mac), I get the same crashes. Apple, this is 100 percent on your end.

The most frustrating part is they don't acknowledge it AT ALL. They must know by now that something is wrong, at least put out the word that a fix is coming in 10.11.5. I mean, they talked about pen navigation coming back in the next iOS beta, which affected the handful of users that used the big iPad Pro at the time. This bug makes a whole range of machines unworkable and nothing..

I experienced the freeze twice today while using safari on 10.11.4 El Cap. The system froze for 15 seconds on both occasions.
After the second freeze, the whole system acted slow and momentarily froze while on Acrobat PDF reader.
Definitely a problem triggered by Safari and affecting the whole system after.

I m back to using my Yosemite partition. Luckily i didn't delete it.

My system mid 2014 rMBP 13, 256 SSD.

There are several bug reports on the issue and those not labelled as duplicate are still open.

Were can I see these bug reports? Are you talking about the report you fill online on their website or the automatic report sent to apple? Because both of those might take months until someone looks at them.

uploading video to youtube now.

Thanks for uploading!

I have a genius bar appointment today to see if they can do anything; anyone think I should actually go?

Late 2013 13" rMBP here and yes the same Safari/10.11.4 randomly freezing. Doesn't happen a lot but enough to be annoying. What's worse is that there's no recovery other than a forced shutdown/reboot.
