Do you think it's possible to avoid the freezing issue using Chrome or Firefox, instead of Safari, or any other browser that may not rely on WebKit, as this may be the main problem highlighted from any error message that appear in Console during the freezing? Or every browser for MacOS use WebKit technology in the background?
I believe Safari appears to be the great offender here because of statistics. People use their computers a lot of the time for web browsing, watching videos, etc., so that's why when the problem appears is more likely that they're using Safari.

@mb3152

Ask them if this has happened on Macs in Apple Store.

I did not have time to go Monday, but I am going tomorrow (29th) night. 2 of my 3 Macs are down (my first gen Macbook is totally fine), and my home one (newest 27 inch iMac) freezes every 10-30 minutes, even after deleting everything and reinstalling the OS from scratch. So, I can't take it anymore.

That's a good point. Just to be sure and to perform a test I started using the latest Safari Technology Preview for everything except Facebook that now I use only with Firefox. I will update you when I encounter any freeze.

Do you think it happens only to Macs with Intel VGA?

Mine is an Iris Graphics 6100 (rMBP 2015)

Another Iris 6100 here. It does seem to happens only with intel graphics, mostly on the newer machines.

As many people have already said, this is independent of the browser. This happens while using Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and the STP. So Safari itself is not the problem, but it's the most common open app when this happens, by statistics.

A 10.11.5 Beta 3 came out yesterday, I wonder if anything's changed.

I think that the majority of people are reporting problems with the Intel integrated GPU, mostly Broadwell. But there are others with older macs that are also experiencing this issue.

Anyone on the new beta checked the driver version to see if it has been changed from beta 2? I'm back with 10.11.3

I called them enough and emailed the right people that I finally got them to replace mine. It was over 10 hours on the phone and at least 20 emails but I did it. Brand new one in packaging is on 10.11.3 and there are no issues. When you spend 1300+ on a computer, you expect an Apple, not a Lemon... It's there fault they are not fixing it so no hard feelings. If I wanted constant headaches, I could of bought a cheap windows PC.

I am still a little upset with how they are handling the situation but I have regained some of my faith in apple seeing as they sent me the new computer.

And that's the real issue. I use mine for some browsing and some goofing around on. Others who use theirs for work, I can't imagine having in the back of your mind that it could freeze at any moment...

Came to this thread to see if there was any hope for a fix or update from apple since it literally has happened once every 2 days for me and just happened about 5 minutes ago. Pretty upset to find not jack has been done about it...

awesome....

We should find a fancy name for the freezing problem, adding 'gate' at the end, and make it go viral. Maybe at that point the issue would obtain enough attention from Apple and will be solved faster.

This really is one of those critical bugs IMHO and should have the OS X gurus at Apple working around the clock to push a patch or update. Otherwise, work machines are just a ticking time bomb for lost productivity.

People saying that 10.11.5 beta 3 still freezes, but I installed it anyway to check if driver version has been changed. It looks like they updated it a bit from 10.14.58 to 10.14.66

Need to get the big tech sites to run it.... TechnoBuffalo, TheVerge, etc...this own site would be another good one for a front page article about it.

Hmmm, I have the 2015 rMBP 13". I have had this freeze maybe twice, both time were recent, though, since 10.11.4. I honestly thought it was because I had recently installed F.lux. But maybe it's this...

Honestly I'm pretty tempted to send this thread and email it to these sites/editors/writers or however i can to contact these sites because this is p**sing me off to no end. If i was working on one my school papers or projects and lost everything or taking a test online? ..... lets just say my alcohol bill at the bars would be astronomical lol

have only had this happen once, in 10.11.4. in the 10.11.5 public betas...no issue (yet). i do use safari, flash, youtube... so will keep an eye on it in the 10.11.5 public beta 3...

The 10.11.5 is not public. Not yet. Only for developpers.
Availaible on Shade.sh doesn't means it's public.

I just googled some board member and corporate email addresses and CC'ed them to everything and just kept going. At the end of the day, from a statistical research standpoint it is cheaper to retain customers than to get new ones. The customer is always right in retail and when they lose you, they lose a ton of future potential revenue because of there own mistakes.

At the end of the day, how long will that really take? who knows??? My point is if there is an issue like this, they should acknowledge it and limit the damage by offering temperporary solutions such as a quick updated or a one time apple approved APPROVED downgrade. Even though i got a new computer and I am happy, the way they are handling this is outrageous and makes me still have my doubts about them.

I am using google chrome and i do not experience freezing anymore. My advice is to use google chrome instead of safari, until they fix this issue and i hope that it will be soon in next update... I understand when it is driver problem, they must wait for fix from intel..
