Not to be the "me too" guy but this is happening to me a few times a day. Gonna try the tech preview and then gonna shift to Chrome until Apple figures this one out.

I noticed that when using Flash on Chrome I disabled the hardware acceleration on Flash and it hasn't crashed yet - I haven't tried it on Safari yet but it'll be interesting to see whether the computer still freezes when using Safari and Flash with hardware acceleration disabled in the Flash plugin.

am running 10.11.5 pb1, so i went back to 'basic' safari...and will see if the problem re-occurs. anyone else on the beta?

Yeah definitely let us know. I've been holding off on it, but I'm gonna install the 10.11.5 beta if it gets rid of this.

I haven't had it at all in Chrome (with flash completely disabled), seems like that's the only 'workaround' until this is dealt with

You can start by sending a feedback to apple with a link to this thread. This might help us.
Already done that. No reply.

EDIT: WOW! Very nice! Now the Macbook froze while changing full-screen apps! Safari had nothing to do this time!

DON'T UPDATE TO 10.11.4!!!

what´s wrong with apple engineers?
only iOS can enjoy those "emergency" updates that repairs bugs, because OS X must have to wait a couple of months until they release .5 update

youtube and all html5 videos freeze the entire system using safari and chrome
i sometimes think that apple people never work with their own apple devices...

Same problem here. In 3 weeks my Macbook Pro Retina 2015 13" froze 6 times. Always when I am just browsing in Safari. On the background I have Photoshop and Word running. I don't use any other browser than Safari.

I have called Apple Support 2 times now, but still no clear solution.

First call (last week): deleting all cache files (no freeze for a week, but it happened again today)
Second call (today): it's something with the 'kernel_task', they said. I have to reinstall the whole system. Haven't done it yet, but I feel that it won't be the solution to this problem. But we'll see.

I hope they fix this issue soon.

Happened to me twice today whilst trying to interact with videos on Twitter. Can't really pinpoint it, but it seems that if I pause video while they're loading then the whole system freezes up completely and absolutely. Have to force it to restart afterwards. It's happened to me when using Netflix as well.

Some websites don't support HTML5 playback in Safari, right? This seems a good enough reason for that.

I've had this happening on my iMac (27" late 2015) a couple of times since the latest OS update. Not just safari, it even restarts in the middle of the night when it's sleeping. I've called Apple, all they suggest was a clean install, which solves the problem for a couple of days, and then it's back. Not in the mood to call Apple again right now, there's nothing wrong with the hardware, and it didn't start until the last OS update. I have AppleCare anyway, so when in the mood to escalate it, I will. In the mean time, I just hope the next OS update will solve it.

My Macbook had the Safari issue happening once, but I could force quit my way out of it. Never happened again.

Same thing's been happening since the update for me. Stopped using Safari for Chrome. I actually tried to switch browsers because of Chrome's impact on my rMBP (2015) battery. I used Opera for two days and it happened while browsing Twitter so I went back to Chrome.

Already reported it twice to Apple Support.

It is probably a bug in the video toolbox framework which provides hardware acceleration for both video decoding for Safari as well as the hardware accelerated decoding for Flash. I've disabled hardware acceleration in Flash and that has resulted in my computer not freezing up but for HTML5 videos it is still freezing in Safari (the HTML5 videos don't freeze in Chrome though - both VP8/VP9 and h.264 since it appears that Chrome doesn't rely on Video Toolbox framework). I'm going to hold out to see what happens with 10.11.5 before I throw my toys around but for those saying, "submit feedback", it is pretty damn difficult to do that when your whole computer freezes up thus you're forced to do a forced shut down.

Yesterday my rMBP 13" early 2015 got frozen while I was writing in Atom. Safari was closed, and I was doing NOTHING related with video or flash... This is getting embarrassing.
