I too have the same issue on my 27" iMac late 2015, it occurs not specific to Safari, but chrome also and iTunes, even sometimes when I left my iMac alone for a bit it happens. I updated to the beta version to try to resolve it and it didn't work.

Good. Well, not good of course, but good to hear I'm not the only one out there. Let's hope for a fix soon

They are clueless (well, they are right that it is not an hardware issue). I have not seen anyone saying a clean install fixed their problem, it did not for me, i clean installed 2 different computers, the iMac i clean installed 3 times and the MBP once, same problem. And i have FileVault off.

Apple should troubleshoot why these freezes happens so frequently on regular Safari and almost never on STP, whats the difference between those 2 Safaris, it CANT be that hard for Apple to diagnose this issue, the problem have existed for over 2 months now

I'm getting to the point that even if they come out with a fix for it I'm going to sell my MacBook Pro and buy an XPS 13.3" or paying a Surface Pro 4. Seriously, this sort of crap should not be dragging on for a month with Apple refusing to say or do anything because they hope that if they ignore it enough that it'll magically go away.

It's incredible to think that this thread has more than 10000 views and Apple has said nothing about this.

I contacted Apple Support, they told me to delete Safari's cache. I reinstalled the whole OS to be sure, and the freezing persists.

Unfortunately there is no quick and safe way to reinstall 10.11.3, and I would be a little ashamed to do so, because it's admitting that Apple has done, basically, a horrible update.

What is also appealing though is the fact that not a single Mac Rumors editor has actually bothered to pick this up - oh silly me, the front page needs to be spammed with crap like yet another rumour about original programming, the fact that WWDC will be held at roughly the same time as last year oh and yet another stupid rumour about a non-existent car. Ah yes, numerous posts and complaints about freezing on 10.11.4 all play second fiddle to the mess that exists on the front page.

Edit: For those using Chrome, remember to disable hardware acceleration when playing Flash movies - I have experienced freezing because it was enabled; it is now working ok with it disabled.

That... sums up my feelings exactly.

Anyone with a MacBook Air other than 2015 is experiencing this? Maybe it has something to do with the Broadwell integrated graphics?

I'm experiencing this at work, on an iMac Retina 5K; still not sure if it's hardware related or it's a software issue. Either way, Apple has got to fix this.

I saw all, or almost all of you complaining about El Capitan 10.11.4. I have news for you.

I have a 2015 MacBook Air 11 and I experience those freezes few times per day ever since I participated in the beta El Capitan, last July. Reinstalling a fresh OS didn't help.

It happens randomly and not only in Safari. It can be any application. First, the infamous beachball of death. It will still let me switch applications, but I can't do anything, mouse clicks and keyboard press are futile. Then after few seconds it won't let me do anything at all, just watch a frozen screen. At this point, nothing but a forced power off will take it out of the freeze. If I let it alone long enough, randomly between seconds and hours, it will display the black screen of death. or not.

After restart, it will provide me a report which I've sent to Apple each time. From what I saw, each time it will complain about other application determining the freeze, and many times complaining about the video driver.

I lost hope that Apple will ever fix this, as it's happening to me for 10 months or so, consistently, every day, one to 3 times a day..

later edit: one more thing worth mentioning is that it doesn't even need human interaction to crash. sometimes I let it in running/sleeping in the office and in the morning I find it frozen in the black screen of death, and very warm, if not hot.

This is the very reason why I'm at the end of my tether and looking at returning to Windows after 15 years in the OS X ecosystem. Really, when you pay a premium for a device one shouldn't have to deal with this sort of crap - Apple knows exactly what hardware they have to support so everything should be predictable right from the outset rather than a situation of trial an error. I really feel for you bro having to put up with that sort of crap for 10 months considering how close I am to breaking point only after one month of freezing. I've moved away from iOS to Android because of that platform's issue and now with this round of issues it appears that Windows 10 is looking more tempting with each day that the problem is left unaddressed and Mac Rumor's editors ignoring what appears to be a wide spread issue.

Entering day 3 of keeping the iMac turned on but turning off Safari as soon as I’m done with it. No freezing, no restarts, nothing. Can I now safely assume it’s just Safari causing the problem? I'm asking because previously I thought it could be something else (as this topic is mainly focussing on MacBooks), but Safari was always opened, now I close it as soon as I don't need it.

Just trying to pinpoint the issue with my iMac.

I feel kind of calmer now since I'm not the one experiencing this.
However, I do not master OS X a lot and I don't even know how to grab reports and so on. It seems I have to go to console and... copy/paste the log? (When? After forcing shutting down and then power it on again?)

Thank you in advance :)

I do the same and only had two freezes since installing 10.11.4. Both in Safari: once after click play in a YouTube video, and the other entering Apple's website.
Some people are reporting crashes when using other apps so I'm not sure...

What the hell is wrong with you guys?

For starters, let's agree on this:

1. It is Apple's fault;
2. Apple should be ashamed to let this happen;
3. Apple should also be ashamed to not have been able to fix this day 1.

But:

4. Why the hell don't you use another browser while an update doesn't come?

Are you people masochistic? Did you buy your Macs just to feel superior or something else? Do you like to complain just for the thrill of it? Just sell your damn machines an buy a PC or use another browser while a fix doesn't come.

Complaining like this problem that affects a very small subset of users is something of biblical proportions is hilarious. If you aren't using a different browser, it's not a serious problem at all. At this point it's just ammo for the usual suspects. "oh it happened again". No ****, sherlock.

Are you sarcastic or what??

When you buy a premium product (just for the price) like apple computers you don´t have to tolerate this kind of issues or sell your mac to buy a PC just for a bug...wtf?

We are talking and complaining about a bug that freeze all the *** system... that´s a huge problem and apple still without an answer.
Search on twitter: "freeze" "macbook"... we are not just a few users complaining.

FYI
the bug still with other browsers...

What the hell??? Many users post here to prove that there are others affected, not a "small number" as you say. Ah, and about your divine solution to use other browsers, this issue affects users that are not browsing at all, only by opening a video, photo or changing desktops.

So I really don't see the point in your message.

Same problem. Been happening quite frequently now for the last week or so. ( 2015 retina MBP). I was in 10.11.5 beta when it started and later reverted to 10.11.4 (fresh install) but this system-wide freeze persists. Now thinking its due to safari, I ve decided to browse using chrome, but looks like this does not pertain to safari either. I ll keep an eye out for this thread !!
