Sent ColcaSac an email earlier today. They are sending me a replacement for my rMBP on Monday. Hopefully the new one will fit much better.

Yeah, that could be for any MBP.

Let them come out with a sleeve that snaps on. That will impress.

Vajacases make the best cases for all products. Excellent experience with all kinds of different products. Always have a steep price but their products always make up for the price and the shipping time.

They've announced a product for the RMBP and I think will come out with a few more..

does the colcasac fit the rmbp's? I know on their site it says its compatible with 13 15 and 17ers but the 13 is the one inside on their pics and it already looks really snug! i might order from them soon

Yes, they have some for the rMBP; it is available in the size selection. There have been a couple of members that got one and it fit fine, and several others (such as myself) that appear to have received the wrong size. Someone from Colcasac has been posting in this thread which makes me feel a lot better about the company.

My replacement will be shipped on Monday, so hopefully it fits better than the one I received. Haven't seen an update from any of the others that posted about problems.

Please keep me posted. I'm really tempted but I heard that the bag is so thin that Apple's charger creates a rather noticeable bulge that makes it difficult to shut (See: http://notebooks.com/2012/06/08/waterfield-designs-city-slicker-review-disappointing-design-flaw/).

Adam

I ordered one last week... and I'd heard a very small numbers of this complaint among MANY positive reviews that never mentioned it. So I'm definitely curious.

I ordered a slip for day trips and client meetings and the like... but I got the City Slicker for when I need to carry a charger, external drive, and small Wacom tablet. I'll load it up and be sure to let you guys know the moment I get it.

And that's why there's room for multiple brands, because I really like the stitched look better. But I don't disagree those Joli Originals look great, as well. I just like the look of the Picasso better. :)

That's why I added "In my opinion". I agree, both are very very nice, I just personally prefer the Joli. :)

Yes i was concerned about that bulge too, but i don't carry my charger everywhere so that should be problem for me.

here is one more review on gadgetmac.

Keyboard cover

For those of you who have their RMBP, would a keyboard cover from the previous gen MacBook pro fit on the retina one? ALSO, any suggestions on good/cheap keyboard covers? thanks!:D

Anyone have experience with this bag? I've started looking for a new backpack and this one seems to have everything I need.

I'm curious about people's experience with the build quality and size.

Thanks in advance.

Very good quality. They've thought of everything from having a strap to get your bag from the luggage rack to a hard-material space for your sunglasses.

I've seen a couple. Crumpler has a thin one but it isn't specifically for the rMBP. This one claims to be the thinnest you can get:
http://sfbags.com/products/laptopsuedejacket/laptopsuedejacket.htm

There is also this one:

Oh and this one on Etsy:

Ahh the Laptop Suede Jacket is exactly what I need, (and just ordered.)
Thanks!

Rigid sleeves?

I'm awaiting delivery of my rMBP (first Mac ever!) and I'm worried about it getting squished in my backpack. The pack has a padded vertical pocket right against the back that is easily large enough but I occasionally carry relatively heavy things in the main pack compartment and I walk a long way to/from work.

Are MBPs durable enough to take this kinds of compression pressure (i.e. similar to if you were pressing down on the lid when it was closed)? I am guessing not and that it will likely damage the display. Does anyone know of relatively small/light but rigid sleeves that are made for this type of protection? All the hard cases I can see actually snap onto the computer, or they are sizable and expensive boxes the the Pelicans.

Glad someone else thinks the same as me. :) I like the thickness and of course like you've mentioned the stitching. :D

Tom Bihn has a soft case but with a bit of padding. Thule and Booq both have some rigid cases.

This is Booq's case:

Is it really a hassle using laptop sleeves with your backpack for everyday use?

Anyone with experience with the Thule or the Booq hard sleeves? I'm wondering if it can be used as a vertical loading sleeve, as in just opening it on the short end and sliding the laptop in and out? I guess because it's not designed for this, the zipper might actually be able to scratch it this way. I'd like a sleeve that offers at least some crush protection for use with my book bag, I guess I could live with having to open it all the way.

If you want an extra protective vertical sleeve, I'd look at the Tom Bihn vertical brain cell sleeve
http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0390

Inside the Vertical Brain Cell, your laptop hangs suspended, cradled in a sling of 8mm thick soft foam padding inside a 4mm hard corrugated plastic shell that protects from the front, back, and bottom. Below the padded sling, fixed to the bottom of the corrugated plastic shell, is a 12mm thick strip of memory foam (manufactured to our specifications in U.S.A.). This memory foam acts as an extra layer of cushion as well as an effective shock absorber. The sides of the Vertical Brain Cell are protected by dense cross-linked closed-cell polyethylene foam.

Just ordered the Ogio RSS Squadrion II in the celebrity color (black was out of stock...which is what I wanted but didn't want to miss the chance to use the coupon code.)

It was a pretty cool deal since I got it for 40% off. Use the coupon code: baddeley.

http://ogio.com/backpacks/squadron-rss-ii

It seems like it has a lot of padding inside of the backpack, especially on the bottom. This has bene hard for me to find in backpacks, so I'm pretty excited.

I just got the Ogio Squadron RSS II and am extremely happy with it.

http://ogio.com/backpacks/squadron-rss-ii

Its not too big, has hardish sides to protect the laptop, a spot for my iPad and sunglasses, and enough room for a couple of t-shirts and shorts for te gym. It really isn't much bigger than my neoprene dual space shoulder bag for my old 17" MBP.

The RSS portion is supposed to be removable, but really isn't.

Anyone know of a really slim vertical sleeve I can slip in there with my rMBP so when I am at the airport I don't have to put my rMBP in a tray with no protection.

I mean REALLY thin, like paperclip thin, just to prevent scratches and scuffs at the airport.

How much excess space is there with the laptop? Would it have enough room for a macbook with a hard case and a sleeve around it?

I got the Incase "Heathered" sleeve, quite happy with it. Fits well given that it was made for the original 15". I see little point in Incase making a new line specifically for the Retina.

If this one was marketed as a Retina model sleeve I'd be happy and wouldn't really think that it was too big. There is a bit of slack in the width and depth, but thickness is still quite a good fit, strangely. It could be a bit of a tighter fit but it's perfectly fine.

The case is well padded. Not too think, not too thin, and I like the "quilted" interior. Soft enough to not scratch the computer but tough enough to be durable. It's a nice, subtle sleeve that doesn't scream out that there's an expensive computer inside. The outer fabric feels quite durable. No chance of the zipper scratching it unless you're careless.

I'm happy. A good, reasonably well fitting sleeve at a fair price, that's offers good protection, is durable, and is understated in the looks department if you're concerned about security.

Yes! I just ordered an Incase Campus Pack from ebags who have a 25% discount right now + free shipping for shop runner or orders over $100 (otherwise it's $7.95)

It seems like a super simple, no nonsense bag and it's gotten almost perfect reviews (4.7 of 5.0) plus it's cheap!

They have them in black for $45 and red and brown on clearance for $37.50. (regularly $60)

Pics are linked to ebags or just google 'incase campus pack'

Just got this in the mail... 5 days after the expected delivery (stupid eBags) and the bag is so low quality, I don't know how it got the reviews that it did?

This is the 3rd backpack I've tried... now I'm looking at the Timbuk2 Swig (pictured). It seem's a bit pricey but if its what I want (small - retina, iPad, power cord, mouse and a textbook or two) then it'll be worth it.

Any one have this bag?

Timbuk2 is generally pretty good quality. I had a messenger back from them at one point but I found their organizational pockets to be somewhat annoying. That backpack doesn't seem to have the same issues.

It is also hard to find a good quality backpack for under $100 so in it's class, its not all that pricey. I did a quick look at bags and these North Face backpacks could be another option:
http://www.ebags.com/product/the-north-face/surge/152265?productid=10023629
http://www.ebags.com/product/the-north-face/recon/152266?productid=10023639

This Samsonite one:
http://www.ebags.com/product/samsonite/tectonic-medium-backpack/219151?productid=10146706

This one from STM
http://www.ebags.com/product/stm-bags/convoy-medium/144096?productid=10002034

Those are just some other options. I like the Timbuk2 bag personally though and they do have good quality stuff.

No way would it have space for a hard case inside, BUT, the slot for the laptop has padded rigid plastic.

It also has about an inch gap between the bottom of the laptop space and the bottom of the bag so if you dropped it, the laptop won' take the brunt of the fall.
