Anyhow, I try to find a solution to get the antennas connected...
There's probably a nicer way to do it, but I just used some electrical tape to hold the leads down. Worked fine for a while, at least up until the MacBook Air completely stopped booting recently due to an unrelated failure.

Hello all, first of all i want to express deep admiration and gratitude to dosdude and foxlet for their efforts.

i have the same problem with a not working integrated isight camera, and i don't have Virtualbox (and never had). Instead, i had Vmware, wich i have deleted in the hope of solving the problem, but i still haven't a working integrated cam (wich it was working before the instalation of sierra on my unsuported macbook pro 5.2, 17" late 2009).

As it was necessary, i migrated from Snow Leopard, through El Capitan, to Sierra (following all the steps and patches). I did it in a row, so i don't know if the cam was working during the few minutes El Capitan was instaled, so MAYBE it has any relation with something explained on the following site (written for El Capitan):
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/306777-guide-usb-fix-el-capitan-1011/

Unfortunately, i don't have the knowledge to understand where is the cause for this issue, and i don´t know if there will be further issues to come.

I had to install El Capitan because of the incompatibility of my beloved Snow Leopard and new iOS 10 (and those to come), and now that i have tasted it, for me, it is very convenient to have Sierra because of the copy-paste integration through the i-devices, and the dictation. But i am wondering if there would be better to go back and install El Capitan.

ok, ok, i don't want to nag...

Dosdude, Foxlet, (Anyone!) can help us??
try to replace Apple_iSight.kext from 10.11.6 @dosdude1

Did you uninstall VMWare properly? (As in, you removed ALL of its components, and didn't simply drag the application into the Trash)? Usually people not uninstalling it properly is the cause of the iSight camera continuing to not function properly.

I cannot believe that Apple decided to eliminate the Faxing capability from the Mac running Sierra. That prompted me to buy an All-in-one printer, however it has proven to me that since the death of S Jobs, the company has continued toward becoming more like Microslop (sic) at warp speed. Shame on you Apple. Your snobbery offends me even if I do love my Mac. You might want to survey your customers before slicing and dicing capabilities.

After updating (Macbook Pro Mid 2009) to 10.12.1 I had no touchpad or keyboard. I had to boot from USB and apply the patch, clearing the cache as well.

Once done it booted and worked as normal :)

But why intentionally prevent capable machines from running the OS?

I don’t think (rather, I don’t want to think) it’s anything more than a matter of procedure. “Oh, these models are Vintage, so we can’t release software for them,” etc. Why they’d let that happen is another question.

That just contributes to OS fragmentation.

Sure does. I can’t understand it. When I see a chart that says “No issues” on at least five models, I get a little confused.

If anything, it makes Apple look bad and pushes customers to hacked options.

As long as I can get Sierra running on my Mac Pro, they can look as bad as they want to in my eyes. :p

No problems with patched installer other than 1: Occasionally it gets stuck on language chooser

Stuck as in “hangs a while”, right? Not “throw up the error log full screen and require a forced restart AND complete redo of the USB stick’s software”. Do you have a 2009 Mac Pro as well?

There's two costs that Apple incurs by not dropping older systems off of the supported list:
- regression testing that must be performed with every update on every configuration
- support costs (even though you're out of free support, people still hit the support channels and this costs money)

And, of course, as we see in these forums, even though officially supported, people would still bitch "Why doesn't feature X work on my iMac?! It's only 12 years old!!" ;)

We really can't complain (many of us with 8+ year old systems) that were just dropped off of the supported list. It's likely best that you need to have a bit of technical ability to keep it running the newest builds....you're also not going to need to rely on Apple for support.

Edit: (not counting opportunity cost of course...if we can keep them working, we don't need to buy new ones....that's the obvious one) :)

I was able to update my Mid-2009 MacBook Pro 5,4 (2.53 mhz) to 10.12.1 using the AUSEnabler - worked great. Thanks to the author of that.

No problems on reboot or anything missing.

I'm not being able to run AUSEnabler. I'm getting an error everytime (photo attached).

Agreed on all. Except I don't want to have to used hacks.

Stuck as in boot from USB to installer and instead of menu bar having installer options like disk utility, terminal, etc, it still has the language selection menu bar (even though language has been selected). It has happened a few times. I have just rebooted to USB installer again and it operates normally.

@foxlet's server appears to be down right now. Only option right now is to wait for him to get his server back up, or patch the dist file manually.

You should be able to use it now.

@foxlet @dosdude1
here is my terrible java attempt at a proxy which modifies dist files itself. set your catalog url to http://127.0.0.1:9432/1.sucatalog, then run it

Testing it in Sierra, your attempt doesn't seem to work. It's only proxying requests and replacing the catalog's resource URLs, which isn't actually enough to present blocked Sierra updates under SoftwareUpdate (they remain missing).

I tested the local AUS server to make sure there wasn't some conflict in the way:

Hello!
Can't figured this out. my Mac Pro 3,1 won't fully boot from USB flash-drive - get the progress bar OK, but then it stalls even if left overnight.

I've patched per dosdude1's (carefully followed) instructions.
Have tried different USB ports (with only keyboard connected). Tried everything I can think of really. Same results no matter what - please see pic below. Thanks. Any help greatly appreciated.

Usually this issue is caused by an incompatible GPU... What graphics card do you have installed in your system?

Thanks for the prompt reply! Ohhh dude.... it's a Dell (literally).

ATI Radeon HD 5770:

Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 5770
VRAM (Total): 1024 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x68b8
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-C0160C-155
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.436
(Vervet via Netkas - many thanks)

Although I feared this might be the culprit I had no reason to really really suspect it, because it's done very well up till now. Don't suppose there's an easy solution other than to upgrade it. And, to what? (there's probably already been a thread about that, I think)

Thanks again though.

That's odd... That card should work fine. Do you still have the original Radeon HD 2600 or GeForce 8800GT card your machine came with? If so, I'd try installing that, and then give it a try.

Also, given that someone said their imac volume worked when another audio device was plugged in, I made a tiny driver which pretends to be an audio device but does not do anything. Can someone see if that works? Put the zip contents in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL

(Yes I know it shows up in system preferences as a "volume control" but if it works I can make it hidden)

Didn't work unfortunately, but thanks for the attempt!

Just wanted to chime in… MacBookPro5,5 running great after 10.12.1 update. Used AUSEnabler, downloaded and installed the update, booted and updated fine. Did not require re-running dosdude1's Post-Installer.

Just in the 30 min or so I've been in 10.12.1, everything seems good. Safari seems a bit snappier, although I think I'll REALLY start to figure out if it is better as I comment more places. (And LOTS to comment about in the next few days!) Safari in 10.12 always seemed to start to bog down in comment text fields after a few lines of text/spelling corrects. Seems good so far.

Yet again I want to send a shout-out to dosdude1, foxlet, and parrotgeek1 et al for all the work they put into this, as well as the forum members who have participated. My now-7 year old 13" MacBook Pro is still running great; 8GB of RAM, 256GB 840 Pro, 1TB 850 EVO… who needs a new $1500 MacBook Pro? Schiller, you were SO wrong about how "sad" we users of older Macs are; such a putz. HAPPY MAC!

I'd be interested to learn how patching dist file can be done. Any pointers/guides or basically have to set up reposado server?
