Guys this weekend I'm going to empty my stick & put the most recent installer(10.12.5?)/patch on it, so I can finally attempt this on my 09 mini. I'm confident I can pull it off.... silly question tho, I don't want to lose my data/settings, so this will go just like all my previous macOS upgrades right, nothing gets deleted? (I just gotta make sure I skip step 5/6).

thats exactly what I did - skipping 5&6 - acts a simple upgrade, nothing gets lost

Did you replace your airport adapter yet? (as noted on page 1, the Broadcom chipset of the original card isn't supported by Sierra).
[doublepost=1495291384][/doublepost]@cizko - yes, you can use dosdude1's post-install patcher to re-apply the patch for your system to fix your audio controls.

many thanks to dosdude1!!! :)
I'm running 10.12.4 once again after a bungled try to update to 10.12.5; I had to clone my backup and have lost the recovery partition. I can't download from the app store, because my mac is mac pro 3,1. the mega download link says 10.12.4; is there a link to download 10.12.5?

Nevermind, all okay. I will use a supported mac of friend to download and create usb stick again. :D

Yep, a good guide over on ifixit: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac+mini+Model+A1283+AirPort-Bluetooth+Combo+Card+Replacement/1060

You should try to find an old credit or loyalty card to use as a mounting bracket (the holes don't line up with the two cards) - thereby you can have one set of holes to mount the bracket to the board, another set to secure the card.

nice, i'll study that in the meantime, it'll be a weeks before the new airport card arrives.. but for now I just created the the patched 12.5 USB stick.

-Forgot to ask, So by upgrading to Sierrra, I lose Bluetooth connection(keyboard/Magic Trackpad) to my mini also? Or just wifi? (Long Ethernet cable on its way).

Believe it's just the wifi that's lost (otherwise both should have been noted on page 1). The two I've built for friends, I swapped out the card before loading, so I can't say myself. :)

Hello! Just wanted to share my experience with 10.12.5 - i have a macbook white 5,2 which worked perfectly with 10.12 this far (up to 12.4,except that trackpad issue but it wasnt that important). But when i updated, first my keyboard stopped working and the trackpad was unresponsive but it fixed itself when i rebooted. But i too have lost brightness control, and the Brightness slider app works but have to reset it every time it exits from sleep,so i created new installation and erased everything and installed 10.12.4 which for some reason did not fix the brightness problem (it was a clean install!), and now i am back at 10.11 latest and everything works perfectly:). So for now i wont be going back to 10.12. Not complaining or anything - the tool worked flawlessly and the update enabler/script too worked without a hitch, but i really need the normal brightness slider :)

@ersatze I'm in the same boat, try 10.12.3, that's where I'm stuck at.

MacBook 5,2 (mid 2009), updated, no issues.
@Brale by no issues you mean your backlight control still does not work right? So no issues except for the usual stuff (trackpad, brightness).

Struggling to update my late 2008 MacBook to 10.12.5 from 10.12.4. I've subscribed to the AUS production updates, but after searching for a bit in the App Store Updates section I get the message

'The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)'

I've tried reseting to the Apple catalogue and back via the AUS app and restarting but with no effect. Anyone else seen this? I haven't had a issue with previous .1 updates.

The AUSEnabler server is no longer up. Use the new software update patch (by @Czo ), which you can install by running the script found in the updates section of my Sierra Patch webpage (located on OP). Make sure your catalog URL is set to default before installing it.

Does anybody know if the early 2009 Mac mini (Macmini3,1) with BCM4328 Wifi can be patched and enabled? It was handled by the AppleAirPortBrcm43224.kext in El Capitan but no longer available in Sierra.

I know buying a Wifi card costs just 50 bucks but it is not easy to find the exact model since it is relatively old...

You can get a BCM4322 card used in the MacBook A1342. They're cheap, but are slightly smaller than the original card, so you'll have to get creative with the mounting.

I just bought this one for my early 09' mini,
BCM943224PCIEBT
https://www.ebay.com/itm/221332739853 (only $8, not $50)
Hope it's the one I need!
My question is, does anyone know the correct size screws I need to mount on plastic credit card? I'm really nervous about this upcoming install.

Hmm. Are you uncomfortable taking your Mini apart? If you're not experienced working with computer components, it might be best to grab a friend who is or take it to a local repair shop (the labour shouldn't be very extraneous for this work - make sure you get a quote first though).

For the bracket - you're going to use the original card as a template for placing the holes in the credit card (re-using it's bolts to secure the bracket to the system board). Placement of the bracket within the available space should ensure that the screws of the new card will line up with lots of room for the screws.

The important part to keep in mind is that you want that ribbon cable from the system board to reach the connector on the new card and, ideally, to be straight. Leave yourself a little spare cable to make sure you're able to connect it.

Calling them bolts vs screws due to the ends being flat or not (for clarity).

The existing bolts are likely about 1/8" across their bore. For the screws (ie. a tapping thread) that secure the new card, I'd likely drill a 1/16" pilot hole for each screw (after using the new airport card as a template for the screw holes).

I'd think you'd want the bore of the screws for the new card (ideally, you use all 4 holes to secure the card) to be 1/8" in diameter and just shy of 1/4" in length.

Oh...and, lastly, if any of the original bolt heads will be coming in contact with the bottom of the new card, put a tab of electrical tape over them to insulate them from shorting the card - and also make sure you don't tighten the screws overly - you don't want to bend the new card - you want it straight/level.

The update server is still up, it was never shut down. Please don't spread misinformation.

Been following this thread and the great work @dosdude1 has done - I love old Macs and was a big fan of XPostFacto in the day for the PPC macs. Great to see a community around keeping old Mac hardware kicking!

Speaking of which, I decided to take the plunge with my 20in 2007 iMac. I put in an SSD last year, but then followed the various guides to swap in the T9300 CPU and supported wifi/BT. Machine runs greats under 10.11!

I'm trying to use the macOS Sierra Patcher Tool ( latest version 4.2.7 ) on the mega link downloaded version of Sierra. Patcher tool runs fine, but during the boot process it hangs up about 2/3 way through. Tried searching through this thread but couldn't see anything similar unless you were using an old version of the tool. Any ideas?

The patcher works with the current version of Sierra. (or because the 10.12.5 is brand new, you need to download 10.12.4 installer)

Yep, I did do that ( that's at least the version in the link on the page ). Shows as 10.12.4.

I took the mini apart once, over 4 years ago, took out the DVD drive & replaced it with a OWC datadoubler & SSD, I also upgraded RAM.. been while, but I was able to put it back together just fine..

Thx for the info on swapping the card.. seems like the hardest part will be locating screws, maybe I could just take one from existing card & bring it to Home Depot to find 4 more.

An update on this - did a verbose boot and saw that the install hung at the 'Waiting for DSMOS...' point.

Just to recap, got both Sierra and the patch right from dosdude's page. Any insight on what the problem could be?

Hi jmertic ... I have a similar problem, with no solution, on my macmini3,1 ... it just hangs about 2/3rds the way through. I'd be interested to know what we are doing different to be causing this.

Just seen that the 10.12.5 update is available. Anyone knows if it's safe on MBP 5,1 (Unibody Late 2008 15)?

I've seen some machines have lost brightness control and I'd like to avoid that.

I installed 10.12.4 on an iMac8,1 from a patched stick and everything worked flawlessly. I had some minor brightness fluctuation issues of the built-in display afterwards but nothing to worry about really. Then I updated to 10.12.5 via App Store and lost audio volume control over the internal speakers afterwards. They always blast on full volume now. :D Is there any chance to re-run the patch for that issue manually? I do not have the patched stick with me here today.

Anyway: Great job, dosdude1 (you seriously rock, dude) and also Piker Alpha and Foxlet for giving us Night Shift!
i have the same problem, any answer please ???
