MBP 5,5 mid-2009. From App Store: 10.12.6 devBeta > 10.12.6 & iTunes 12.6.1 >12.6.2
Installed no problem, let’s we how it runs.

Was able to update 3.1 2008 Mac Pro to 10.12.6 via the AppStore with no issues.

The original owner of the Mac Pro here...hate to give it up quite yet!

Fresh install of 10.12.4 then updated via the Appstore on my 2008 MacPro with no issues as well. Native RX570 support is nice!

Considering the very first post in this thread states
"Enabling Updates: Sierra does not allow updating to minor versions (such as 10.12.1) without modification."

I'm pleasantly surprised that many of us are managing to do the update to 10.12.6 from the Apple App store
without the need for modifications.
As I said, pleasantly surprised but not complaining one bit.

It depends on the method used. If you use Dosdude's Sierra Patcher tool, it now has a patch that lets you update from AppStore without doing nothing.

Was getting ready to make the jump from Elcap to Sierra 12.6 on my 2008 Macpro and noticed this on Dosdudes page:

Q: I get "NSURL" errors when trying to update my machine
A: If you've used the older "AUSEnabler" method to enable updating, you'll need to run "sudo softwareupdate --clear-catalog" in Terminal, and then run the software update patch script located above.

Not sure if that will help anyone with the above NSURL errors, but figured I'd just re-mention it in case it could help.
Yea I was using the AUSEnabler and did this and ran the patch. Still not getting an update in the store or in a shell. I may do what someone did above and rerun the updated Sierra Patcher tool again.

I think this applies to Dosdudes latest Sierra Patcher tool.
I for one was a little confused by the different methods (3 that I found) for applying updates, only to find out I did not need any of them.
Glad to see the improvements being made in this regard, and my thanks goes out to all those involved
in making this all possible.

I installed the macOS 10.12.6 update on my 2008 iMac last night via the MAS. It went swimmingly. I had to reapply the @dosdude1 patches to get the sound working correctly — not surprising, this has been required after every update.

These patches for getting macOS Sierra working on older Macs have been phenomenal. It's amazing that my nearly 10 year old iMac is still so usable. I threw a couple bucks over the fence to dosdude1 for his patches via the PayPal link on his site. I recommend that y'all consider doing the same!

Wanting to do a fresh install of 10.12.6 on my MacbookPro4,1 A1261. Anyone used dosdude1's tool to do a fresh install from a usb of 10.12.6 yet?

Same here. MacPro 3,1, NSURLErrorDomain Error -1100.
I'm going to wait another day or two, and then will go for the manual install if necessary.

Anyway, thanks for AUS Enabler, it has been most useful!
=========

Received the same error message: MacPro 3,1, NSURLErrorDomain Error -1100

Did a manual install from the modified combo installer and it updated perfectly.

The manual install instructions are not easy to perform because when you save the .xml file it will hide the file.

This is how I used the original instructions:

Modifying the Combo Updaters for Sierra.

Download Combo.

Open Combo.

Move Combo .pkg to desktop.

Open terminal.

Enter pkgutil —expand ~/Desktop/macOsUpdCombo10.12.6.pkg ~/Desktop/Expanded

Should be - - not —

Open Expanded folder and then open Distribution file in Text Wrangler

Important: Check the “Show Hidden Items” box

Change Distribution file, change Board iD line 21 to <your Macs boardID> at line 29 remove <your Mac model>

Mac-F42C88C8

MacPro3,1

Save As .xml file to the Desktop

This will hide the file.

To show hidden files:
  • In Terminal, paste the following: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
  • Press return
Relaunch the Finder under Apple force quit.
  • To hide again: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
Rename the file Distribution.xml

In Terminal chmod +x ~/Desktop/Distribution.xml

Rename the file Distribution and remove the extension .xml

Move the new Distribution file to the EXPANDED folder package REPLACING the original

In terminal pkgutil —flatten ~/Desktop/Expanded ~/Desktop/Modified.pkg

Should be - - not —

Wait 5 minutes for the package to build.

Using the .pkg extension is crucial.

The Modified package on your desktop should now allow you to install the latest update

Please Note.

The dashes before the commands expand and flatten are two separate dashes but look like one long one here, please type the commands into terminal rather than copying and pasting as that will give an error.

I am running 10.12.6 on MBP 5,5
Because of external drive recognition issues, I reset SMC and PRAM. This re-enabled SIP and now I cannot disable. Recovery mode will not work; screen comes up frozen, i.e. cannot navigate. I booted from my previously cloned drive, but Terminal demands “recovery” mode. Help please?

Not that I know of at this stage, perhaps some bright person can come up with a solution.
I think it has something to do with Keychain Access, System Roots and Certificates.

OK. So going to try the manual update right now.

[Updated]

OK, did the manual update following instructions posted above. Everything running smooth.

Does anyone have a link to the 10.12.3 full installer? Just looking to roll backwards as I can't get the brightness to work properly no matter what. It never sticks. I'm a crazy IT Admin looking to get 10.12 onto lab machines as it fixes some issues we had last year, otherwise I'd stick with 10.11. So can someone get me a 10.12.3 full installer link. I had a beta 10.12.0 but it fails to boot the installer. Thanks in Advance!

I have one problem with trackpad since that I have updated my MacBook 5.1 Late 2008. I lost my trackpad configuration, as in macOS High Sierra Beta.

Any solution???

I don´t lost the configuration, works than before, but I can´t configuration if I install fresh copy with macOS High Sierra or macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

I think what you need is a link to the Sierra 10.12 Final installer, and then simply apply the 10.12.3 Combo Update.
Many of us saved the original Sierra Final installer, but finding a link to it is a bit of a challenge.

Strange, doing the iTunes update on my patched MBP 5.2 knocked out the USB but was easily fixed re-patching from the bootable dosdude installer.

10.12.6 software update worked without issue.
