Shameless plug:

Dosdude1 has a PayPal donation button on the download pages for the Sierra patch tool. People should use it, even if it's only a couple of bucks.

It's Mac folks like them who help the rest of us non-coders keep our great and still capable hardware relevant.

I seeded the jar earlier today when I got my GM download link. The rest of you should follow up if you haven't already. It's the least you can do to promote this sort of (free) community assistance.

'nuf said.

MacDan, happy to be a donor

Indeed folks!

If your Mac has that extra spring in its step, that new lemony fresh scent ...

Donate! I just have...let's keep this going coz you know 12.1.is just around the corner...;) :apple:

Surely worth the price of an app or a cup'o joe and a scone...

Later.

Are you all suggesting that we should contribute to a cause which is clearly frowned upon by the oligarchs in Cupertino? Are you suggesting that we should offer aid to a rather questionable activity? By doing so, do you even comprehend that we are in fact encouraging such devious deeds to continue? Do we truly wish to be accomplices in such borderline activities? Won't contributing to such a cause negatively affect our social standing, and how others view us? Are we truly prepared for any unexpected repercussions which may result from contributing to the aforementioned party? :) :p ;)

How would you know anything done here is frowned upon? What activity is questionable, and how is it questionable? Please provide something to back up your "claims". There is no illegality about anything here. Devious? Really, such hyperbole in the most ridiculously extreme. The only negative affect here are comments like yours. I don't see a gun being held to anyones head here, so kindly move on.

I think he's just being sarcastic.

Oh me oh my! Sir/ma'am . . . either you don't have a good command of the English language, or else you utterly fail to understand sarcasm . . . even though I included THREE smileys at the end of my comments. And, yes, I DID donate. :)

You think dosdude1? I'm glad at least you are not clueless. :) ;)

Small things amuse small minds.

Rather an overdramatic melodrama for a childish titter in your own mind. Must be a lonely space in there.

At least a real mind at work has provided us with something valuable here, thanks @dosdude1 .

Now sir, I'll let you go back under the covers so you can continue reading your comic books.

FYI, people on the Autism spectrum don't get sarcasm, I wonder if you have a problem with that too?

MacbookPro 5,2 with upgraded SSD and RAM, public GM and patcher v4.0.3, fresh clean install. The install starts, but after half a minute or so it fails with the error "macOS could not be installed on your computer. No packages were eligible for the install. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again."

Has anyone else experienced this?

In case anyone else comes across this problem, mine was resolved by following the directions in this answer from a question about the El Capitan Installer.

Well, here's a good candidate for the ignore list. Without knowing anything about me, you started with a personal attack, and you continue now with yet another personal attack. If you take the time to read ALL of my comments which are spread across MacRumors, you will discover that I have shared valuable information in a number of posts, as well as some of my sarcastic humor via poetry and graphics. Even if you do have autism, you have an overly sharp tongue which needs to be toned down a bit. Does your autism prevent you from understanding three smileys in a row?

Let me also add that I think the REAL problem here -- which will probably be apparent to most English speakers who read this current exchange -- is that you jumped the gun on this one, made a mistake, and lashed out at me and judged me, because you failed to understand my sarcasm.

Rather than demonstrate true humility, and simply say "Oh, sorry, I was wrong", your pride and ego are now forcing you to carry on, as you try to justify your current behavior with more insults against me. So who is really acting like a child?

Adios amigo.

As yet another experiment, in the spirit of "It Just Works", I present the:
macOS Sierra Legacy Installer
which is essentially the normal macOS Sierra installer, but modified to "just work" on Legacy Systems.

Notable quirks:
  • Existing versions of macOS that are supported by the normal installer can be upgraded in place (without a flash drive)
  • You can use createinstallmedia natively without running a patcher session
  • You can deploy BaseSystem over the network (such as with NetBoot) the same way as any other installer
Caveats:
  • It's the same size as the normal installer (around 4GB or so)
  • Sometimes PlatformSupport.plist fails to be replaced, in which case you'll have to replace it manually. A copy of @dosdude1's macOS Post Install is included in the bundle for convenience
EDIT: The PlatformSupport.plist issue should no longer occur in the latest version.

If you would like to try this installer, you may PM for more information.

Huh? If you don't have the GM image, how did you get the Sierra GM on your system in the first place?
Heh. Maybe I don't want to ask.
GM? I don't have recovery anymore. It got wiped in the windows install. I also can't find bootcamp drivers for win10.
[doublepost=1473483774][/doublepost]
I'm using BC, I actually tricked it into thinking I was doing Win7 not 10;) but I don't have Recovery atm, If you could give me those images to to boot from. Basically win10 is the only os I can use. Macos works but has no interface device access
Let me explain better. I have 2 partitions. macOS n Windows. macOS lacks keyboard, mouse n USB access now. Windows is fine. I still need the bootcamp drivers for win10 though and a recovery img for Sierra to make a new partition for recovery

There's no difference at all. Are you doing a clean install or upgrading? Also make sure your hard drive is formatted correctly as macOS Extended (Journaled) with GUID partition scheme.

Hi Dosdude1, yes fairly certain I formatted it as specified. I'll double check and try again and see. Thanks.

still no any fix for BCM4321 ? i was using wifi for internet sharing for my other home devices but now seems like i will be have to buy router or maybe wifi on usb work?

very nice :)

how did you do this?

using your legacy installer?

I tried this with the official sierra gm installer from within el cap on a late 2009 mac mini (not supported), disks are still greyed out ...

THREE smileys

Excessive emotion can be inappropriate in technical discussions :D o_O :) and I don't know what's to be learnt from the minor disagreements above, but whatever it is I'll try it in twelve hours time when my nephew streams, live from Las Vegas, his marriage to the lovely Briony who has an autistic spectrum disorder and possibly more of a sense of humour than my enormously funny non-autistic friend D who (by his own admission) finds it funny that he lacks the find-things-funny gene.

Thank you, oh wise one. I will keep your profound counsel in mind.

WAIT!!! Hold it right there! Four? FOUR??? ;)

Oh . . . so that is what it is called . . . "the find-things-funny gene". I thought it would have more of a Latin-sounding name, but that will work too. :D

Is there also a sarcasm gene by any chance? I think I may have been given an overdose of those. :p

Be advised

The excessive use of smileys has been found to cause blindness and temporary funny bone and sarcasm gene dysfunction. Commonly known as Sarcasmus Interruptus. The oligarchs at Infinite Loop have therefore decided to de-support, deprecate and disable its use in all macs produced on odd years or whose serial numbers end in X.

Right - surely someone must have an idea...

iMac 8,1 - clean install and patch required increase or decrease volume slider (with mouse or keys) looks like it's quieter or louder and does nothing to the sound... if you get notifications or music it pops and crackles a bit not like before...

I then reinstalled based on someone on here's mentioning and then reinstalled the patch after... same result...

I then thought (as I have two) I'll try my other 8,1 (same hardware except GeForce instead of ati) this time I did an upgrade to cover all my bases...

Guess what... same problem.. surely someone else must be getting this or have an idea of a fix?

Yeah, this has been a known issue for awhile. I still haven't found a proper solution yet.

VoodooHDA not solve that problem?
No, VoodooHDA is an outdated and not recommended solution for Hackintoshes only. It should in no way be used on a real Mac, and in most cases should not be used on a Hackintosh even.

The excessive use of smileys . . .

Please define "excessive use".

has been found to cause blindness and temporary funny bone and sarcasm gene dysfunction. Commonly known as Sarcasmus Interruptus.

Nope, I can still see, and my sarcasm gene has definitely not been negatively affected as of yet.

Not only that, but grahamperrin used more smileys than I did, and I assume that he remains in good health as well.

Maybe we both have natural immunity to "excessive use". :)

And maybe this silliness has gone on long enough. I think we have made our point now. ;)
