Hi. I have a MacBook Pro 15 mid 2009 2.53 GHz (MacBook Pro 5,4)and I installed Mojave. One issue I have is that it becomes really hot and loud even when you aren’t doing anything. I checked Activity monitor for CPU and energy which usage was really low with and no apps were opened. Do you think that’s fixable?

You might try SMC reset as well.. fixed this issue for me on my cMP once.

Check from Activity Monitor "Memory Tab" the "kernel_task" sorting descending order the Memory column, check if it increases. Do the same check on CPU tab sorting descending order the %CPU column. Once I had a similar issue to me was a malware into a Framework. Replacing entirely the framework I have (in summer) lower fans speed and overall lower temperatures.

edit:
Without SIP, installing third party apps or downloading from some uncertain websites, system core components are more exposed.

edit2:
Sometimes even more instances of "mdworker" (aka spotlight) if you have many partition/drives with many files can ramp up the fans speed and consequently CPU/MCP temperatures.

Yeah it's nice but I am enrolled as developer beta profile and I never receive an update, but always the full version of the OS... I don't know why this happens and no one seems to not having this issue too. So, I have to wait and see if there is someone that can explain to me what's wrong
you are not the only one having the issue I was lucky it worked on my iMac 9,1 to be able to update to DP6 on the internal hdd but it was original enrolled in the public beta but I used SWU Switcher and enrolled in developers and its been working since DP2 but on my external usb hdd no luck and on my MacBook 5,2 no luck no software updates available tried the public beta and developers beta access utilities and SWU Switcher so I think the software update has glitches but I downloaded the new patcher and DP6 with the tool and installed over DP5 without doing a clean install and I have had no issues

Yeah, me too, although the installation over DP4 didn't end properly. After reboot and applied the patched everything seems to be in order.
Thanks guys for your help and work! ;)
My system Imac 10,1

Ah, one more thing. Also on my iMac, if i completly remove the internal AMD GPU, the internal screen is not displaying anything anymore. So this screen is seems to be hardwired to the MXM socket.

I guessed as much, we can still hope there's a way to make the windowserver and Finder render through the external GPU. More research is needed.

You never need to do a clean install, even if using a new patched USB installer. Just proceed through the install as normal, selecting the volume that has a previous version of macOS without erasing it first.
Excuse me, but I’ve tried to do so but the installation bar is stuck on 32 minutes remaining from about an hour. Is that normal or what?
P.S. I am trying to upgrade from dp4 to dp6 using the one installed from the patcher.

that depends on how many apps you have installed and plus you skipped a beta but an hour does seem high mine was only 34 mins and it seemed it took longer but I have no issues I just let it do its thing if you see no progress then you might have to do a clean install
[doublepost=1533663134][/doublepost]does anyone know where to look for the components for the software update in system preferences :)

thanks, it’s moving again, I guess I’ll wait. Sorry, I thought this a bug or something , but I think it’s not

I am using Mac fan control for now. Hopefully, this can be fixed.
When you are running MacFan Control see if "Iconservicesagent" ramps up CPU usage in Console or Activity Monitor, on my iMac it constantly takes about 15-20% of CPU. It appears that whatever version of Mojave I have used has lead to Iconservicesagent using an unusual amount of CPU usage, as soon as I quit MacFan Control system settles down to 1-4% CPU with only some small apps running in the background.

before the hdd took a nosedive in my iMac 8,1 the fans were running constantly so I used Mac fan control and used the ambient settings and it settled my iMac 8,1 down

I am awaiting for GM. If UI glitches in light mode is fixed, then I will install Mojave. If not, I'll stay with HS! I am not using Xcode anymore, anyway... AFAIK, Apple will deliver Safari and iTunes updates for 2 more years for HS!

Open System Preferences, select Network, then hit Apply at the bottom. WiFi should work then.

I tried but the I couldn't turn on WiFi. And besides, the Apply button is greyed out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

EDIT: the one above is when I booted up from my High Sierra partition.
On my Mojave partition, the WiFi doesn't even appear on the menubar. Let alone on System Preferences | Network.

I experienced a glitch like this back when I first installed HS. Boot into safe mode, check to see if the WiFi is there, or if you can turn it on in settings. If you can, boot back into normal and see if it helped. That helped for me!

Remember for anyone having bugs, don't panic, we're still only on the sixth seed for Mojave. Usually bugs and issues do not get fixed until the GM, if even (like High Sierra last year).

Your system's WiFi card is probably bad.

But installing it on a supported machine for comparison made me a little disillusioned about the graphic bugs.
Like I earlier wrote, those seem to be connected to my intel 3000 inside the MBP.
Though I have no longer complaints about performance on that machine. Works like a charm!

This is from activity monitor, without & with MacFan Control running:
It does recover a bit but still hovers around 20-40%, unusual behavior for such a small app. There are some discussions on Icons on the desktop, Virus's and a host of other possibilities however, nothing conclusive & I only have 3 folders and I don't have the issue when it's not running. It's not that big a deal, just trying to track down exactly why MacFan Control forces that root command to drive CPU % up. In the scope of running Mojave on an unsupported Mac this does not warrant a lot of attention, however, it's just 1 of those nagging issues as to why. Does anyone have any ideas aside from not running MFC? (which is what I'm doing)

Tryout EttreCheck. It might tell you some issues causing this. Did you reset SMC?

I never see software updates either. MacBook Pro 6,2.
Install DP6 over 5 with with patch tool
Works great.
