Thanks for the insights. Appreciate it - it is definitely piquing my interest in hacks! Yes macOs doesn't have a windoze style central registry. I'm just wondering why you can't run ioreg at the command line. Maybe related to FakeSMC, but I'm a neo-phyte

Public betas are already out there, or maybe you meant GM release version? A reason to at least try a system update now would be to set your expectations and gain some experience (you don't have to actually download anything) Getting a new OS on your machine is one thing, the ease of following Apple updates (which come fast and furious now) is a concern of mine. How is this handle in hack world?

Given the entire 2018 mbpro debacle I am seriously considering a super charged core i9 windows laptop that I can hack into my favorite mac.

I agree with you that there is lots to learn from both our communities (hacks and unmacs)
.
Try to put the command in here again, please, in a different font.
No, I did not meant the GM, I meant the next public beta.
In the hack world, regular updates are delivered like on real Macs. Updating from a beta version to the next beta version of an already launched macOS things can go no further. Like, if the latest High Sierra is 10.13.5, if you install the first beta of 10.13.6, the next beta shall not install automatically, at least in situations like my own, you need to make a clean install of 10.13.5, then install the beta of 10.13.6 . Until now, like in 2017, if installed the first public beta of High Sierra, I needed to download the full installer of beta 2 and install it clean, I was not able to update in-place from beta 1 to beta 2. I assume things are, more or less, similar, with Mojave. The updating system has changed, this is the first build of Mojave I succesfully installed. There are ways to in-place upgrade used by others who are more technical then me, but I consider those more complicated then a clean install. On a Hac or on an unsupported Mac updates can brake the installation, although this happens less now then it happened some years ago. I had an serious issue when updating from Yosemite 10.10.2 to 10.10.3, but that was the last time I have got serious issues due to a final update (not beta). There are several ways to bypass it. Clover had a bug that prevented it to boot of 10.10.3, I had to switch to Chameleon until El Capitan GM was launched, when I got back to Clover. There where a way to address that issue, but it was too complicated for my expertise back then. If you have expertise, time and patience, you can apply those advanced solutions yourself.
The present combination I have made of Clover+FakeSMC and Dosdude1 patch on Mojave is, mostly, uncharted waters. Hackintoshers usually rely on other means, but for me, all others then this meant to upgrade the hardware and that meant some financial stress.
Hackintoshing a laptop is hard work, harder then a desktop PC. I did a laptop once, battery percentage was blank and WiFi was not working. Fortunately, that was only a temporary solution, in order to get a new, updated installer of macOS to install on my new desktop PC, and Windows was restored on that laptop after that. Clover was installed in UEFI mode on it and it has left some things in UEFI even after it, I still see the option Mac OS X on the boot menu on that laptop, although the hard drive was re-partitioned and re-formated. You need to do your homework really well before going for it.
There are two main websites and forums, Insanelymac and Tonymacx86. The developers of Clover are on Insanelymac (like Slice, the main developer), and the developer of FakeSMC (RehabMan) is on Tonymacx86. Those boards have different visions of Hackintoshing, although their work needs to converge, eventually, to get things going. I suggest you read their rules very seriously and comply before joining, there are strictly enforced. It may sound harsh, but those things are required to keep the work at its legal minimum and prevent the project from being closed. In this period, the developers are kinda of busy and you can seen them too much on the board, because they are working in developing the next Clover and FakeSMC version for Mojave. But it is a similar things in here, I have not seem Dosdude1 too much in the latest posts. Tonymacx86 posts every mouth a guide for compatible hardware, in order to make your own custom build of Hackintosh, for the highest compatibility and less risks on updating and performance. There Hacs build from curing edge hardware that are far better then Mac Pro and iMac Pro on performance.

@Olivia88 - looks like he confirms success either way. So no need to try an APFS system update.
Well it Worked ! I installed the beta utility and now Pb6 pops up in software update ! and the annoying dock is fixed ! :)

I've installed DP7 using the latest patcher from @dosdude1 and all installs fine but when I go into System Preferences and click on the TrackPad option to adjust the settings, it just closes. Any ideas? I'm on a MBP 5,4 and using HFS+...thanks!
did you try installing the partial trackpad patch with the patch updater in your utilities folder

is your SSD formatted APFS I am glad it worked for you :)

Regarding the rumors that Mojave DP 7 was removed
https://news.softpedia.com/news/app...-users-report-system-degradation-522332.shtml
Can anyone confirm or disprove this, please, regarding macOS Mojave, not iOS 12?
It's still showing on the Apple developer web site, with the same build number it had before. Whether it's possible to actually download it or not I have no idea, as all my Macs are unsupported so I can only download it through the patch tool.

ETA - I would say that I have noticed a considerable deterioration in performance after installing DP7 over DP6.

On MacBookPro5,2 mid 2009, just installed Mojave beta (18A365a) with dosdude's excellent support and tools.
Great thanks all mentioned under Special Thanks in the first entry of this thread, and to all contributors to this thread. This will extend my machine's lifespan by another, already 3rd year since Sierra.

I have installed it over the latest High Sierra on an external (USB) SSD with APFS. This worked well with no need for either the APFS sw patch or the boot rom patch - apparently the EFI from High Sierra which was already on the disk is good for APFS booting of Mojave.

Next is the Donate button, and then further testing... and eventually the boot rom patch.

Wait, @Vyzantion, the link you posted doesn't say anything about Mojave being pulled. In fact, it says specifically that they don't have any information about it. Where are you getting this rumour that Mojave DP7 has been pulled?

Wow! A link with APFS was just a hunch of mine. I'm still puzzled...Congrats. How are your UI glitches (actually shouldn't make a difference)

In there it says something that might be on Mojave, they were not sure. This is why I was asking.

Well, I'm downloading pb6 update right now just for testing the software updater, so I don't think so because public beta and developers preview is the same build.
Are you sure is PB6 you are downloading, not DP7 or PB5? I mean, PB6 was suppose to arrive today 14 of august, but I have not seen any official confirmation.

Well, the only mention of Mojave in that article is this:

It’s not as of yet clear if all of the Apple products are affected. The update was also designed to macOS Mojave 10.14, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12 as well, but there is no information on those platforms

I have no idea what they mean. The sentence doesn't even make sense, and I certainly don't think this constitutes a rumour of Mojave DP7 being pulled.

:) Well it makes sense, even the regular hard drives are updated to apfs now, I know because I tried Mojave on a 2012 mbp with a hard drive. The UI glitches are the same as before, I can't see any differences. but overall it feels snappier than before. Thank you !

Yes, she sure did. These are the updates she received (from her log):

091-86646 | Gatekeeper Configuration Data 140
091-99491 | macOS Mojave Public Beta 6
091-99603 | Gatekeeper Configuration Data 151

@Olivia88 - did you follow standard OP procedure for your APFS install? i.e. run dude's APFSRom patcher etc.? Also, can you confirm receipt of either full installer or in-place update? (shorter file) Thanks!

yes his patcher downloads DP7 if you look in the thread Developer Beta 5 ..Is it out yet fisherrman provided a link to download PB6 and as far as I know PB6 and DP7 are the same

Odd question… but what would happen if I partitioned my internal drive to create a small 16gb as my Mojave patch installer? Would it work the same as an external drive? I feel as if it would be more convenient to always have it mounted rather than a flash drive sticking out of my MBP. Everyone does it on an external drive probably for a reason, and partitioning is a dangerous game to play, but it would be cool if you can just write the patcher and installer to a small partition of your internal drive.

I am doing a clean install of DP3 on my external hdd that I reformatted from HFS to APFS and soon as I install the Apple public beta access utility and check the software update I will take a screenshot :)

No problem.

Thanks for your contribution!

If you can, address a few questions I posed above for you. Every bit helps...

Yeah, you can do that no problem, it will work just fine.

I can find the download link for PB6. I think I missed it. Can someone, please, paste the link in here?
