you are very welcome very happy you asked for my install log after DP4 as you can see in the screenshots both my hdd's are APFS my internal MacIntosh hdd I formatted APFS when DP2 came out so maybe that's why I was able to successfully update since :)
One thing's for sure APFS handles all extended file system attributes very well - just plays better than HFS+. It may account for all the sandbodx mdwrite extended attribute problems (check a console log under HFS+) that ultimately affect how the software (like system update) accesses key assets like plists.

Edit: thank god @dosdude1 has a neat and seamless APFS ROM patcher to handle the details. Thanks again.

maybe there could be a way to create a patch for HFS for those who want to stay on HFS I am glad you asked if my hdd were either HFS or APFS for now dosdude1 is working on a update APFS Rom patcher so will have to wait for it for my MacBook 5,2 :) BTW on the iMac HDD I am updating from DP4 to PB6 I did not use the SWU Switcher just installed the Apple beta access utility :)

You're right, my System Information now shows the display as 24-bit, but I can't tell any difference either! That's great that it will stick after a reboot. I really wish I could upgrade this iMac but I just can't justify the cost right now. Thanks to this tool and the help of the members of this forum I'm squeezing a bit more life out of this machine!

Same. My 2010 MBP, while it does not have retina and the awesome battery life as the new ones, does what i need it to do. I put in dual SSDs, maxed out the RAM, and replaced the wifi chip for AirDrop/Handoff so it's pretty awesome.

If i need more power, I have my hackintosh anyways.

I can confirm that SWU Switcher does nothing special or more than one can do either manually (seedutil etc...) or via beta utilities. So I don't run it. Plus it's kind of opaque - I can check the beta utility's code and scripts but not SWU...

I can confirm that if you do the update through the software update that you do need to install the post install patches with version 1.1.2 of the Mojave Patcher I tried without the post install patches and it got stuck on the second phase of the boot up progress :)

Oh definitely! But I think it will ultimately depend on the nature of the patch: if they replace some key kexts we patch for example. I've gotten small Mojave beta updates that didn't require a post-install.

Well I can say that this software update issues was a well hidden Apple gotcha but we are a good team on this forum we figured it out :)
[doublepost=1534277183][/doublepost]here is further proof the the software update works as it should :)

A lot of anomalies with upgrade, most items now have orange hue, (Mojave sky is orange and Dunes are an off color tan, Night Pic) icons in dock, all desktop pics, even Mojave pics, local folder icons, I have gone thru appearance and changed default colors which was orange, but color was blue and blue was orange. Tried several changes however all in vain. Reapplied Patch twice, correct machine, force cache, latest OS DP7. Did a Snapshot restore from CCC, got ? Folder. Booted from ext FW has previous version;18A353d. Software update shows Pending update. Currently Restoring previous OS and see what happens. I should have taken some screen shots.

From previous post I couldn't boot from USB, ø, reformatted AGAIN, installed Patch and was able to boot & install, see above.

I've verified all installers versions for DP 1-6/PB 1-5. Now, does anyone have the official installer version for DP 7/PB 6/

Are you using a radeon GPU? You might need to use res xtreme to change the bit depth to 4 (from 8)

On another note, i changed my volume to APFS. Hopefully the next software update works good!

I have DP7 on an internal SSD in my MacBook pro 5,4 (mid-2009). I never get the new Software Updates so have been reinstalling every new DP. How do I go about getting them and is it ok to format to APFS on my internal SSD? Thanks for any/all help.

On that note; As far as APFS, I made the transition early on, I converted all my volumes (SSD's & spinners) to APFS and have had zero problems with it, granted HFS booted drive won't see an APFS drive, aside from that no issues with it and realistically that's the way forward with Apple. Just my experience..

... I'd wait for the new ROM Patcher from @dosdude1

When I used the original APFS Rom Patch on my Macbook 5.2 with HS sometime ago now I had it (and only it) plugged into a heavy duty UPS as an insurance against power outages. Of course that ensured a constant smooth supply from the Electric Company.

Thanks. Good advice. Of course I have no idea what the new ROM Patcher will bring.

APFS, for Hackintoshes, has an issue. Support from Clover it is still in infancy. We need to copy apfs.efi manually into Clover in order to make it boot. Of course, a good way to make this would be for the Clover developers to add build-in support for APFS, how they did with HFS+, years ago, but that will take time. I have installed High Sierra on APFS instead of HFS+ a little while ago, as a preparation for Mojave. It went well for a time then, suddenly, at one boot, FakeSMC failed to configure the DSMOS and boot failed. DSMOS is a kext, placed in macOS and iOS, short for Do Not Steal Mac OS, meant to block the boot of the OS on unsupported hardware (in case of macOS, Hackintoshes and unsupported Macs). FakeSMC, configuring the SMC, on boot, configures this kext and allows the boot. On verbose boot, DSMOS first says „Waiting for DSMOS”, then a few lines, some unrelated to it, appear, then „DSMOS has arrived”. After the first message, if FakeSMC fails, the boot is stoped. Sometimes, after the second message the boot stops. DSMOS after the kernel finished booting and before the GUI of the OS. If APFS affects FakeSMC and DSMOS, this shows there are clear, structural differences between HFS+ and APFS in how macOS works and how it relates to hardware.

Oh I swear by it on my new machines. Its merits are not in question, just didn't feel like tempting too much change on the old clunkers. But agreed, APFS works better.

Ouch! I thought APFS was a little more mature on hacks. Thanks for the info.

Worked on mine no problem. As did the NVMe boot rom patch.
Cool. what is the current version of your boot rom?

Tonymacx86 builds of Clover for High Sierra, unlike official ones, include the copied apfs.efi . Or they copy it automatically.
[doublepost=1534282397][/doublepost]By the way, I have discovered this link on a post on Insanelymac, a script to make Mojave installed on Hackintoshes and unsupported Macs to download updates, especially on HFS+. I have allready updated, I can not test it for myself. If you, some of you can test it. https://github.com/Gengik84/MacOS_Updater
