I just got a Samsung 840 PRO SSD and will be updating to Mojave soon, an SSD is so fast, even on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro. So should APFS be GUID Partition Map?
I realise that (a) this reply is late and (b) it appears I am a complete newbie, though I have posted before a number of times, been locked out of my account and wanted to warn @visberry and others potentially following his/her instructions.
1. There have been important firmware update(s) for the Samsung 840 Pro SSD.
2. Recommended to search and read some of the discussions on the merits / necessity of these firmware updates.
3. Better if a forum expert can chime in with his/her opinion on which Samsung 840 Pro SSD firmware you should be using with Mojave.
4. The Samsung SSD firmware update may be downloaded here:
https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/
Click on Samsung SSD Firmware Updates for Mac Users (11) and for Samsung 840 Pro select ISO DXM06B0Q download.

I’m installing Mojave now. I’ve just got this SSD- god more firmware updates . It’s already apfs. I’ll leave firmware updates then. Thanks for the warning

Well, it seems you may be OK regardless, if you only intend to use MacOS on the SSD and not certain versions of Linux.

However, unless there is some reason not to, that other thread readers may know of, it is generally best practice to use the most up-to-date SSD firmware, especially if it relates to TRIM, stability, reliability, performance or lifetime.

It will be one less thing to worry about / eliminate as a source of weird bugs when trying out Mojave betas.

Worth checking from About this Mac | System Report | SATA/SATA Express (if this is internal SSD) that the SSD firmware is up-to-date, as I did for my Samsung 850 EVO.

(My Mojave test installation is on an old external USB Western Digital 1TB HDD, HFS+.)

Once you are sure that the firmware is TRIM compatible, follow the instructions in this thread to enable TRIM for your new internal SSD (the thread quotes a Samsung 850 EVO and TRIM, but enabling TRIM is the same for any non-Apple SSD, I believe):

Just to confirm, the option boot selector works fine with both HFS and APFS volumes after applying the Boot ROM patch, correct? I ask because I seem recall one of the very early testers of the the primordial Boot ROM patch complaining about that feature not working. Since I use the option boot selector to switch between booting my Ubuntu Bionic Beaver, Windows 10 and macOS drives, keeping that functional is essential.

Has anyone tried Mojave with a fusion drive?
MacBook 6,1
DIY Fusion drive made of 256 GB SSD + 500 GB HD HFS+
Reformated APFS, (took awhile to complete).
It's working well although I cannot guarantee it still is a Fusion Drive.
As you can see in the image Core Storage Volumes "disappeared". I'm testing it in the following days. Performance is good

It is indeed a fusion drive, see first aid:

Yes, the boot menu works just fine. As I said, it will work EXACTLY as it did originally, just with the added functionality of booting from APFS volumes.

Kind of a long shot, will probably give this a try soon because support will be dropping for 10.10 soon. I could care less about retaining support for my iSight. But has anyone tried to connect a LED Cinema Display to a MacBook 5,1 (Late 2008) on 10.14?

Can we somehow get the old “Use Dark Menu Bar and Dock” menu bar and have light apps? Then the menu bar would be fine
defaults write -g NSRequiresAquaSystemAppearance -bool Yes
This will give you the dark menubar and dock like in High Sierra
[doublepost=1535640342][/doublepost]
Why is your Dock barely dark?
The dock adjusts with the background you choose and seems the core display adjusts with the temperature sensors. It could be possible the the core display can't read the temp sensors for the AMD/ATI GPU

Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series GPU? If so, there's your issue.

Hi all,

please, can anyone tell me how can I check if my Mac Pro 3.1 is APFS boot compatible?
Can I test with a standard Hard Disk or I need an SSD?
How can I restore my backupped rom in case I want to go back? If yes how?

Thanks

Reading through all of the posting since the APFS ROM Patcher release, I noticed one user aborted the process because of a spinning wheel cursor. What should I expect the cursor to do during the EEPROM patching? Should I expect it to be in the spinning wheel cursor mode? If so, perhaps the APFS ROM Patcher dialogs should note that as normal expected behavior and to be ignored.
