@dosdude1 Is there a Night Shift patch for Mojave already?

Just a question, no demand! :)

Thanks.

Oh, as a side note: I successfully patched a Mac Pro 3.1 with the APFS ROM. Worked smoothly, I really appreciate this effort.

This machine runs wonderfully fast for its age, a self-knitted fusion drive (256GB SSD and 2TB HD) and an NVIDIA GeForce 680 GTX helps a lot with this.

But I'm surprised every day, what this machine is able to perform, if current and compatible software allows this!

#8072

Maybe you can investigate this. I have a MacBook7,1 if that helps. @dosdude1 Thank you.
It will be looked into when I get some free time. No need to spam the thread.

It’s not urgent. I have a fix that works for me atm and I don’t want to take away from your free time.

Yeah, stop spamming. You are making the thread un-necessarily long, which already is.

You need to boot from the patched USB installer, NOT run the "Install macOS Mojave" app.
Yes, that is what I did after the Mojave app installer attempts failed. The patched USB installer worked flawlessly on my 1st attempt.....you and the contributors to the patched USB installer have done an outstanding job of keeping our Macs from being put out to the unsupported Mac pasture. Well done!!

This "Mid-2010 GPU issue" is a hardware issue. It needs to be repaired properly, NOT "fixed" via software. I will never implement such fixes in my patcher. I have a video on my YouTube channel here showing what needs to be done to actually fix the issue. On another note, I may consider making the patcher open source... I'm still working out the best way to do so at this time.

I would not open source it until you are plain done with it. It doesn't need anything added to it. People can either use it, or not, or just buy newer.

The video card specs are:
Chipset Model: AMD Radeon HD 7950
Type: GPU
Bus: PCIe
Slot: Slot-1
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 3072 MB
Vendor: AMD (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x679a
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-E2080C-101
VBIOS Version: 113-C3810100-U01
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.624
Metal: Supported, feature set macOS GPUFamily2 v1

Failed Mojave installer attempts gave the message "installer resources could not be located" with different downloaded Mojave installers, both on upgrades to HS 10.13.6 and fresh installs to ssd.

I had the same message "installer resources could not be located" some time ago on my supported 5,1 with Sapphire
Radeon RX 580 8192 MB. I tried several workarounds but still couldn't install one of the early Mojave betas.

I reset PRAM then it worked and had been fine ever since

I understand your concerns about it. Honestly, the patcher itself? I don't really care if it's open sourced or not. If I wrote a useful GUI app, I wouldn't want people stealing it and doing whatever they wanted with it either. But things like the software update patch, NDRVShim, LegacyUSBInjector, and CoreBrightness patcher... The details of the actual modifications are what would really benefit the community to be well documented, publicly. I would be happy to help with some of that if you want!

Sorry about the slightly passive aggressive previous message. Thank you for your response. You're awesome.

I think exactly the same way, just take a look at Insanelymac, tonymac86 and other followings. You do not see the source code of the tools scattered around, just the utility itself that has GUI to facilitate.

i also installed successfully Mojave on Macbook mid 2010 (macbook7.1)

When i installed mojave (on beta 3), it worked well, there was some transparency glitch, but it was mojave beta 3, now i think it will be better. Performances were good as HS, but performances depends also on your mac configuration. My macbook has 8GB RAM and the SSD, so it works very well

Any ideas why my Mid-2010 White MacBook7,1 is giving me the 'no symbol' trying to boot from my USB installer?

I used the tool to download Mojave and to create my USB installer. I select the USB installer at startup and it gives me the grey screen with the 'no' symbol.

Agreed, it was in apps folder & that's where it remains. High Sierra was exactly the same in terms of where App Store determines where to download OS's. Perhaps in some circumstances moving OS to another folder is a workaround.

It very well could be an issue between permissions as set by downloading from the MAS versus downloading via TOOLS of the installer.

I could never execute the USB build from the app if it was located in the Applications folder, but succeeded if I copied the app to any other folder (I believe that the default for the patcher download is Documents).

Thats accurate, Downloads is default folder, for most 3rd party apps, however for whatever reason in Apples infinite wisdom since I believe Sierra & definitely High Sierra those OS's along with Mojave are downloaded to Apps Folder, I'm assuming it has something to do with permissions associated with Apps Folder & not the Download or Document folder which can be changed to any folder end user defines.

What capacity your USB drive? 8/16 Gb or larger? >=16Gb recommended.

I have strongly considered making the patcher's code public. The main thing I'm worried about, though, if I were to release it, is that somebody will take it, modify it for malicious purposes, and try to distribute it. It does, of course, make modifications to system files. Secondly, I don't like the idea of having untested or unnecessary patches added to it. For example, somebody earlier in this thread mentioned something about adding a "Mid 2010 MacBook Pro GPU Fix" patch to my tool for whatever reason. What obviously was not known by this person is that this "Mid-2010 MacBook Pro GPU issue" is a hardware issue, and that it's not actually an issue with the GPU itself. The actual cause is a failing capacitor on the GPU framebuffer power rail. Lastly, yes, documentation of all the patches included with the tool would be a good idea. I will more than likely write some sort of detailed documentation for it once I have a bit more free time. I'm currently at college, so my time is somewhat limited. Also, I get upwards of around 30 emails asking about some aspect of the patcher every day. I do try to respond to every one of them, which takes quite a bit of time.
Perhaps, although I do no know if it is a good idea, you could become a registered developer from Apple. Insanelymac and Tonymacx86 have Apple certificates, it seems, because Apple, un-officially, supports Hackintoshing, to keep user base against Windows and Linux. Even Steve Jobs said: ”Better Hackintosh than Windows.” . They prefer users to install a patched Mojave on an unsupported Mac then make those people drop macOS completely. You can ask advice on both Insanelymac and Tonymacx86 on this before doing it.

10.4.1 System Update

Ok - worrying about the 10.4.1 system update, I tried it myself on my bookpro 5,3.

TL;DR - it worked

  1. Downloaded the 10.14.1 beta utility from the developer site
  2. Preferences system update kicked off immediately - downloaded (~1.99Gb I think) - then restarted
  3. Got the no entry due to kernel panic of course
  4. Applied latest post-install (checked off the APFS Patch just for kicks ?)
  5. Rebooted - took a while - but eventually booted right up - Phew!
Observations:

  1. APFS boot and verbose messages changed - haven't dug into these
  2. In between initial install and post, I booted back up from the patcher stick to dig around and noticed a strange EFI configuration + beaucoup phantom disk images loaded. Disappeared though after successful post-install and reboot. Now my diskutil list looks fine
  3. For some reason Apple doesn't have developer release notes for 10.4.1 up. Still trying to figure out what changed. Anyone have any insights into the changes?
I am just not having any luck with getting 10.14.1 to work at all frustrating :(

I made sure I was plain vanilla GM (on top of betas) without ANY 3rd party patches or personal custom configs.
Even wiped my nvram (boot-args="") and SMC + PRAM reset.
This machine was reseeded with GM via dude's latest patch (on top of betas - didn't wipe my disk on this one) - accepted all his defaults for bookpro 5,3.

Mojave is working perfect on my Macbook 7,1 (white unibody mid-2010) with 3GB ram and it's original hard drive. I made a fresh install on monday and i was testing and works faster than high sierraView attachment 789357 View attachment 789358
I have a 4.1 mini with the same 2.4 chip and 320M video system.
How does your 7.1 MB handle 1080p video, any dropped frames?

On my internal hdd in my iMac 9,1 its only modified with just the post install patches I left it on dark mode which looks really good :)

Successfully upgraded my MBP 5,1 from High Sierra to Mojave on my APFS ssd

Question - APFS Patch was checked in the post install. Upon boot, the text scroll occurred. Have since patched with the APFS ROM Patcher, and the scroll still occurs. I thought applying that patch would eliminate the scroll. How do I do that, or am I stuck with it? Doesn't really matter either way since I'm happy my 10 year old mac still works with the current OS.

this fix is for light mode only.

as described in the name itself.

in the dark mode, will work, but with reduced transparency, so you see.
but in light mode the status bar is also not transparent

I'm about to upgrade my unsupported MBP5,5 from 10.14 final release to 10.14.1 beta 1. Couple of questions please @pkouame.
Assuming I will receive OTA message from System Preferences | Software Update, download and reboot and post install.
  1. Reset my boot-args on nvram ?
  2. Do I need to SMC + PRAM reset ?
Thank You.

Also, on the post install, make sure to NOT click on the APFS selection?

@dosdude1

Is there any difference between the 1.2.0-1.2.2 patch?

Here I tested all and the only ones that give problem are 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 during the creation of USB bootable from Install macOS Mojave 10.14 (18A391) or beta 11 (18389), only the version of its patcher 1.2.0 has worked in that Hardware:

MacBook Pro 2010 13"
Nvidia GeForce 320m 256MB GDDR3
8GB DDR3 1066MHz
SSD Samsung EVO 750 256GB

When have a time, you could check carefully if there was any mistake or differentiation, I realized that it is only in this hardware that this occurs, any other, by the reports of the users, works perfectly.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
