Mac Pro 3.1 unable to boot to APFS SSD (APFS patch implemented) always defaults to HFS+ disk, do I need to use the APFS ROM Patcher app and if so is there anything I should know.

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 with a Nvidia GTX 680 2GB PCI-E Video Card and have used the ROM Patcher app. It worked perfectly and I have no problems.

Thank You dosdude1.

Currently running 10.14.1 with SSD and APFS formatting.

Just follow the instructions from Page 212 #5285.

Hi, no problem with my 3.1 booting which has a very similar config to yours. Changed over from the software AFPS to ROM version when using High Sierra. No problems with the ROM patcher. If you go down this route it will be interesting to see if it solves your problem.

Hi Thanks very much, have now ran the APFS ROM patcher and am now able to boot to the Mojave APFS SSD without it defaulting back to an HFS+ disk. When did the ROM patcher become available again?

Slightly off-topic. I noticed that Mojave is more "forgiving" in regards to the battery with a very poor health. The System Information indicates the condition of the battery as "Normal". I am wondering what will it take for the status to change to "Service Battery". BTW the battery is original, I bought it from Apple just before it became vintage.

That is good news. The rom patcher seems to have just come back as dosdude encrypted it to avoid problems with google.

One thing to note -- I just realized that, having reset PRAM a couple weeks back, I've had SIP enabled for a while on my patched system with zero issues.

It only really needs to be disabled to rebuild the prelinkedkernel, after which it can be enabled again. I still wouldn't advise it, but it's good to know that enabling SIP won't instantly break a patched system.

I imagine I'll have to disable it again for updates, though.

Hi,
allowed to do 10.14.0 upgrade to 10.14.1 on MacMini 3,1 (Dosdude1 patched). Of course, its not booting any more. Will Dosdude instruction (new USB stick with new installer + upgrade install) fix it, or should I take of HDD from machine to save files 1st?

Yes. I made all as you say in an iMac 7.1 and the computer didn't want to boot. So i boot with a stick created by the patcher (with 10.14.1). First i try to apply the patches, but this didn't work, so proceed as following.

- reinstall the system from the usb stick with 10.14.1 (DON'T FORMAT THE DRIVE!! make a reinstall in your hard disk).
- In the first boot, boot from the usb again and apply all the patches
- Now reboot normally. When the system starts, open the patch updater and reinstall all the patches.

If you make this, the system will work again.

I had the same trouble, after foolishly running the 10.14.1 update. I did the same thing as you, but the first time around it still wouldn't boot. The second time I tried it, I did a "force cache rebuild" and that seem to do the trick. I shall be more careful in future!

The always helpful @jackluke suggested a solution for tap to click here.

Did you install the iSight patch?
[doublepost=1542134011][/doublepost]After seeing some touchpad issues, I wonder -- does anybody have interest in a Trackpad preference pane patch bypassing the model check? Should be easy since it's just writing preferences.

Edit: Nope, not that simple. It's not just a matter of patching the prefpane so it writes the defaults correctly. The touchpad on these old MacBooks is recognized as a simple mouse -- kext replacements should be the solution here. I don't personally have the affected models, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Yes, I'm actually looking into this. The weird part is, the trackpad prefpane works with some of my unsupported machines (most of them, actually), but not others.

For trying to enable tap to click only this:
defaults write com.apple.AppleMultitouchTrackpad Clicking -int 1

then type and check if Clicking is set on 1
defaults read com.apple.AppleMultitouchTrackpad

Then just logout and re-login your current user.

Not in a million years :( it's not working on macbook 5,2 :(

That would be awesome. MacBook 5,2 camera "disappeared" since 10.13.5 if I'm not mistaken.

awesome ? really :|

Then I guess your internal trackpad is recognized as standard mouse, if you open System Preferences and Mouse prefpane and see that you can change some mouse values then at the moment there is no way to enable tap to click, maybe you need a group of patched kext for your machine.

I guess you have the same issue, internal trackpad recognized as standard mouse, unluckily there is no way to enable "tap to click" on a "mouse", neither the original "Magic Mouse 2" supports "tap to click" that is an exclusive internal trackpad prefpane feature.

That has always been the problem with MB 5,2. Someone solved it by replacing the trackpad but I can't find anywhere instructions to do it without replacing top case :-(

@barcode_turk infact on a standard working internal trackpad you cannot have those Mouse prefpane features, it means your internal (USB) trackpad is recognized as generic USB mouse, and neither the Magic Mouse supports "tap to click" as feature, so at the moment you can't enable it through Terminal commands.

@LuisN I don't guess only replacing trackpad.prefpane (from El Capitan for ex.) will fix your internal trackpad features, but is something related to IOUSB***.kext and probably AppleUSBMultitouch.kext or any AppleUSB*.kext not correctly loaded in prelinkedkernel.
Instead replacing the trackpad hardware as you wrote will work of course.

So to those who own a MB 5,2 or any Macbook with an internal trackpad that can open and see a generic mouse prefpane, then you need a major fix for this, most probably a group of *USB* patched kext, same goes for iSight.

Maybe you need all the 5 IOUSB***.kext from El Capitan to fix both the issues? I am not sure.
