I just installed Mojave 10.14.1 using macOS Mojave Patcher on my "unsupported" MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.6 Ghz 17" Early/Late 2008 - BTO/CTO - MacBookPro4,1 - A1261 - 2199. Everything but WiFi (known issue) working perfectly but MBP's LCD display brightness VERY dim (only ~ 50% what it should be)... and brightness keys not working. Installed "Brightness Slider" menu bar app from Apple App Store app recommended previously and VOILA! brightness restored.

QUESTIONS:

1. Any way to get the brightness keys working again?

2. What is the best / cheapest source for a Mojave "compatible" WiFi card for this MacBookPro4,1 ? Unfortunately my MBP4,1 has a Broadcom BCM4321 WiFi module does not have functional WiFi when running Mojave. A fix for this is to open up your machine and install a "compatible" WiFi card.

Unable to boot into recovery

Hi,

I use the patch on a Mac 10.1. and everything works fine. However, I cannot boot into recovery. (Want to do this to disable SIP and install Hybrid mode.) Neither can I boot from the USB volume containing Mojave. (This is a little worrisome.)

Please show me how to boot into recovery.

Try making a patcher disk. Recovery won’t work on apfs volumes.

Hi! Is there any way to remove the Legacy Video Card Patch? I have an iMac with 780M installed, so I don't need that anymore.
You have to reinstall to do that. You won’t lose data.

Macbook 17, late 2011. In the patcher web àga you can read:

"Mojave will be almost UNUSABLE without graphics acceleration"

Installed and patched. Of course no graphic acceleration. But my system is snappy, fast and reliable. So, Why that "almost unusable"?

Thanks
[doublepost=1543139722][/doublepost]Ok. I can see it now. I was working at a low resolution. At 1920x1200 it´s a hell.

pity

For one of our 4,1 Macbook pro's, I have bought an Atheros AR5BXB92 Airport card. (was from an iMac 2009 I think)
Bought it of eBay for a few euro's, so very cheap..
eBay example link :
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...+AR5BXB92+.TRS0&_nkw=Apple+AR5BXB92+&_sacat=0

It works great on High Sierra.
I think this card should also work fine under Mojave, but to be sure check info page on dosdude1 website.

Replacing the airport card in a 4,1 is pretty easy !

Please tell me how to do make a patcher disk[/QUOTE]
A patcher disk is the disk you made to install Mojave. Remember when you downloaded the Patcher App then the copy of Mojave and created a disk. If your patcher app is old I suggest you update it from the dosdude1 site. But keep the old version in a safe spot.

Well, oddly I cannot boot from that disk. When I try to, I get a non permitted sign. What to do?

See page #1
Webcam: Hit or miss
Wifi: Use different module
Trackpad: Only partially solved, will not be fully usable

-edit: dosdude1 was faster -

You can solve the problems with the trackpad now by changing it with a macbook pro trackpad, as you can see in this thread.

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ackpad-in-non-unibody-white-macbooks.1431597/

I made it and it's easy and cheap.

My 5.2 macbook wifi works with no changes (i don't change the wifi card and it works). I can use wifi and bluethooth. But if your wifi card doesn't work, you can try changing it by a compatible one as @Larsvonhier says.

Webcam problem is not solved yet. When I installed mountain lion it works, but when the sistem made an update it stopped working. I think that the programmers of the comunity are working on it.

iTunes hangs

got 10.14.1 working on my early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 (NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 ), things were mostly working fine, even in light mode, until I tried to launch iTunes. - it just hangs/doesn't respond.
anyone else experience this? I fear I might have to go back to High Sierra - but dreading the thought.
(also , on my late 2011 MacBook Pro 15" retina, it was mostly working, but was unable to edit photos in the Photo's app, and FCPX wouldn't install, two deal-breakers).
thanks

Cannot (re-)enable System Integrity Protection

OK Create another disk and try again. if not one of the Gurus will pick up from here.

Worked like a charm, thank you.

But I constantly fail to re-enable System Integrity Protection. (I disabled it to install the light mode patch.)

When booting into the patcher disk,
csrutil enable
replies positively, asking me to reboot to make the change effective. But after reboot into the normal HD system,
csrutil status
yields disabled.

Would give me peace of mind to have SIP again, please help.

In case you are trying to create a patched Mojave installer on an external USB drive, try using a usb memory stick instead.

i think half the problem was caused by some folks calling the usb drive a 'disk'... probably confused @sklein. if he were to go to http://dosdude1.com/mojave/, he would find how to make a USB flash drive installer; and follow instructions therein.

If you want to use the patcher for an unsupported mac, SIP has to be disabled all the time... you can't have it both ways. Many of the more experienced users on this forum (including @dosdude1) have said as much in previous posts.

Seems to be something specific on your machine/setup. All working here - see screenshot.
Did you try to install the latest iTunes from Apple´s website?

Hi - Mac Mini 2011 here. Was running supported High Sierra and now running the patched Mojave. All seems good, can see the light mode anomoly but can live with it as I prefer dark mode. Thanks a lot for creating this.

I was hoping that recovery would still be available but that seems to have gone after upgrading to Mojave.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but if you want to recover from time machine - how do you plan to do it? Would like to backup my machine and this has option has saved me a few times when things have went wrong. Is the process to boot from the key you created and reinstall over or do you have some other clever way of ensuring you have some sort of recovery.

Thanks in advance, Myles

From time to time, Apple seems to check the EFI integrity on our machines. After fiddling around with the tool "Volta" and a couple of crashes related to this, I got the message about "a potential security problem with your computer". When clicking "show report", Finder shows a path to some eficheck.dump file (6.5MB size).
Would that not be nice to have patched out of the Mojave behaviour on "unsupported machines"?

No problems with Mac Pro 3.1 here although running a GTX680. However, I remember having similar problem with a few apps when updating High Sierra a while back. I found running Onyx maintenance mode cleared the problem so it may be worth giving it a try if you have not done so already. Onyx runs fine in Mojave.

Yes, I had that warning the other day on my iMac 11,2 but not so far with the MacBook 6,1 ;)
I assume we can ignore these warnings?

Cheers :)

That looks impossible, the folder seems to be rather hidden and I believe it has a dynamic name. Where is the folder?
