Seven years from initial release date has historically been Apple's cut-off timing.
That makes sense actually. The only thing that doesn't is that next year's release will probably be a bug fixing release. But with the removal of 32-bit apps imminent I guess it's possible that it'll be a bigger release that drops more support. I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro that I am prepared to hack in any way possible to run the newer version.

Yeah, I've wondered about older MacBooks too. I have a MacBook3,1 that I figure could probably boot Mojave; it has a Penryn CPU with SSE4.1 so that's not an issue. But there's no way to get acceleration on the GMA 950 and it's slow even on Lion, so I never bothered trying. It would be an interesting exercise though!
Sure about the 3,1 specs?
LowEndMac lists it as a Merom CPU and x3100 Intel graphics?!

Ebay.. they have a lot of them and not too expensive. I have the hard ware test and ASD for it, so i don't need the whole thing in the box. Just be sure the 2012 is in great shape and not with a lot of problems. Use best judgment and a 2012 will be in your reach.
[doublepost=1546060959][/doublepost]

At that point hopefully the 2015 MacBook pros will be affordable.. i can't afford 2K for a computer.

MBP 2012 is a good supported "Metal 1" machine, while MBP 2015 much better "Metal 2", but I assume for both today discovered fixes for Mojave will be almost the same for 10.15 , and probably even for 10.16 , unless big technology changes will come in the next three years.

The plugin is still present in the installer though.

I said that I thought removing it would fix it. I know it’s useless.

Inside a stock untouched "Mojave USB Installer" there are only 6 plugins among which there isn't the telemetry one.

I'm an idiot. Haven't touched that MacBook in a while, got the specs mixed up with a Lenovo laptop I just hackintoshed. Sorry about that. Previous post has been edited.

It looks like Mojave will likely never boot on a MacBook3,1. Merom CPU doesn't have SSE4.1 so El Capitan is the end of the line unless you use a kernel-level emulator.

But as I said, the thing is so slow even on Lion, it's not worth it. And while I was wrong about which GPU model, it has the same issue of no acceleration under recent macOS versions that can't boot in 32-bit mode (caused by lack of 64-bit kexts).

Oh yes, I’m an idiot. Since he said it was usb related. Maybe it’s another one of the plugins. I have no idea, I’m just guessing.

Only this UserEventPlugin is mandatory to boot Mojave: com.apple.remoted.plugin

The same also tested on a supported High Sierra and on a supported Mojave machine.

Without that plugin no one can reach the GUI Mode but only the single user mode otherwise will stuck on apple logo stage2.

While instead for any previous OSX version lower than Sierra 10.12.x, that plugin is totally missing, and overall there are less plugins, it has been added by apple since High Sierra.

edit:
Another test, deleting the UserEventPlugins folder from a Mojave USB Installer it will boot and work anyway, so apparently no plugins are needed for it, but only that one later for booting a full installation, probably required to complete loading the graphics kexts.

You´re right. I fired up one of my old MB white 2008 (MacBook 4,1) to see how far I could get with the patched installer or with some harddrive volume containing a working 10.14.2 from another ´book.
The installer times out and throws a "no" sign or if booted in verbose mode, it seems to hang at the same place the first patch experiments did: It seems to power down or lose USB connectivity and then times out with a weird black/gray/white mixture of kernel panic outputs.
On the other hand: The 10.14.2 working install goes straight through to the login screen (with graphics probably unaccelerated) but there also no USB port works. Bluetooth does not work either, so with my machine that has a broken internal flex keyboard/trackpad cable, I´m stuck here, see photo.
Could be interesting to have the MB 4,1 in the patch list for the patcher tool as well, @dosdude1 , for such a machine is not worse off than the ATI equipped hardware-unaccelerated boxes, wouldn´t you think? PM me if I can help in any way by supplying exact setup or other info.

Thanks for that test ! I was looking to buy a 2008 MB just to see where i can get with :)
So that mean that there is maybe a thing to do on that machine !

I have a MacBook Air Mid, 2011 and a MacBook Pro Late 2008. Is it worth the risk of me trying to install Mojave on these machines? Will it help me any? I need some perspective here and advice. Thanks in advance.
Paul

One of my mojave unsupported Macs is the same as yours --- the MBAir 13, mid 2011.

Screen Shot 2018-12-29 at 7.03.44 AM.png

I've installed beta and GM releases from 10.14.1 to 10.14.2 and currently it's on beta 2 of 10.14.3.
I used @dosdude1's Patcher app to install and update. (See instructions on the OP for doing so).
No significant issues (so far) and cannot wait for 10.14.3 GM to be released.

Good luck if you plan on upgrading yours.
Happy New Year.

Trust me, it's not worth it. Even if Mojave were able to run on there, you would never be able to get graphics acceleration due to the GMAX3100. It's not worth running anything later than 10.7 (maybe 10.8, as graphics acceleration can be made to work in that).

My MacBook5,1 is still stuck on 10.14 How can I update to 10.14.2? SOFTWARE UPDATE in System Preferences is not showing any update I also tried to reinstall patches but nọthing worked

Thanks in advance

In your case I would make a new pendrive of 10.14.2 and try to update over, if it does not work, do an installation from scratch. Make sure you are in APFS, as this is the only way to get system updates.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
Good luck!

Creating a new pendrive with dosdude's tool? The latest version that support is 10.14.1, right? How can I create the new pendrive? My volume is HFS not APFS.

Just to report that using the latest magical patch tool of dosdude1. I have been able to install Mojave 10.14 Beta (18A326g) in a Mac Pro 3,1. the process was very simple. Just like High Sierra (this is the link to the install process in case someone reading is lost http://dosdude1.com/sierrapatch.html) So far I haven't noticed any display glitches. Everything seems to be working just fine like high sierra. My graphics card is a NVIDIA Quadro K4200. (by the way I'm writing this post using Mojave, the screenshot tool have many new options built in) Thanks to dosdude1 and everyone else to make this possible and keep on proving Apple that planned obsolescence

Just wanted to thank everyone working on this as it runs great on my MacBook.
I just have one small question
Does anyone know why the window corners of the transparent parts look so messed up?
I'm on a MacBook 8.1 13" I also installed the Hybridmode tweak, but the window edges were even worse before I installed that tweak.
Non-transparent windows look perfectly fine btw.

I don’t think anyone has figured that one out. I don’t think it’s a huge problem though.

I was able to D/L 14.2 from the AppStore, and used the latest tool from dosdude1, but when I ran the install, it crapped out at about 20% saying it could not install and to run diagnostics and try again. I tried a couple of times and then had to roll back to 14.0. I think my D/L from Apple might have been corrupted or something. It was weird. I'm a MBP mid 2009 13".

@TianjinMBP you can re-download the 14.2 installer and use the latest tool to create a new install usb.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
