I'm going to try this now on my unsupported MacbookAir4,2. Hopefully transparency (or graphics acceleration) is fixed but if not, will wait for final release. Got nothing to lose.

Got it updated to Beta 3 via OTA.

Still no graphics acceleration as before. Oh well, I can live with it for now. Need beta to test my hobby (app development).

just tried today's 10.14.4 DP3 on my macbook air 4,1 - and stranded with the same error messages as before in 10.14.4 due to crashing window server...

Re-Installing 10.14.3 brought back everything. No user profile or data loss whatsoever.
So it seems interested folks with other machines can try without risk - just invest an hour or so...

Hello.

In a recently installed macbook air (mojave non compatible) I could see the 10.14.3 update in the system update panel, but I can't see it in a iMac 7.1 and a macbook 5.1 (Both computers have 10.14.2 and the system update panel says that this two computers are updated). Apple is launching this update slowly (like microsoft do with the windows 10 updates) or this computers have a problem?

You could try and rename the AppleIntelHDGraphicsGLDriver.bundle file? I did have to rename mine
AppleIntelHD3000GraphicsGLDriver.backup and it boots fine and gets to the desktop.

APFS on all machines?
HFS+ will not show updates...

Yes, I could skip OpenGL altogether, but without it the machine is not quite usable...

I think I would reapply the thermal paste for gpu and cpu and while you’re at it clean the fans and everything else from all dust. That may extend the lifetime of the gpu. When these books were first disassembled on ifixit they noticed that way too much thermal paste was applied. When I swapped the logic boards I noticed that as well. I use Arctic MX 2 for all my cpu replacements and I’m pretty happy with the result.

Edit: I’m a little late to the party, have a look at @dosdude1 ‘s link, it might be the smartest move to permanently disable the amd gpu.
O.k.
But when i have a better gpu i want to use it!!!

O.k. this is the first i make on every computer.
But will a thermalpad be better?

I know and maybe high sierra is better for 2011 15 and 17".

I can not perform the procedure.

when installing usb boot, got the error, "stop screen/prohibited"

Macbook 5,1...a1278, 2008, 8gb ram, ssd..

Does anyone know what can it be?

Did you see that after the installation finished and restarted? Did you boot back to the external drive and install the patches?

This appears before i even install...

I download the patch dosdude mojave / or sierra (both same problem)

I download the ''install mojave'' / or sierra (both same problem)

through the patch dosdude i create the USB Boot

Restart, click option, select USB Boot -> ERROR ø

This error appears, as pictured.
(prohibited)

Enforcement of "-no_compat_check" argument in nvram is often required to pass the "prohibitory sign" for an unsupported system and recovery, cause the Basesystem.dmg contains another com.apple.Boot.plist without "-no_compat_check", then you have to override that with the pre-loaded one, same thing occurs for the prelinkedkernel/immutablekernel. If now you can "boot with lines" of course you can even "boot without lines".

Thank you so much for your concern and your help, I really appreciate it :)

No. The machine that shows me the update has APFS. The two machines that doesn't shows me the update has HFS+.

So... this update is only for machines who use the APFS system (I have to wait to 10.14.4) or i have to force the update in both machines? Combo update maybe?

Regards.

That's what I suspected. Your options: You can either convert all volumes to APFS or if you like to stay with HFS+, then download the latest 10.14.3 (incl. FaceTime patch last week) by dosdude1´s tool. Create a new USB installer stick and install the update manually. Patch afterwards, as always on our unsupported machines.
Good thing is: As with the OTA update, you will retain all your settings, data, user profiles etc. even if you install from the stick. (Only VPN settings might vanish).

All machines require updates regardless of the format. If you use SSD it is probably in your best interest to forget about HFS+(leave it for the HDD with the legacy Mac OS).

Assessing the situation: third beta 10.14.4 still no more OpenGL initialization, I'd suggest, before 10.14.4 becomes the current macOS, @pkouame could you release one more updated patch with 10.14.3 (18D109) of your HybridMode ? Maybe this time trying as your personal challenge to add some kind of vibrancy on top-menu in light mode, I remember once you were really close to achieve it.

18D109 also up and running on my MacBook 4,1
@dosdude1 Experimental support of this machine in your patcher tool would be very welcome - it just needs all the standard (platformsupport etc.) patches plus additional legacy audio and the legacy X3100 graphics kexts. Perhaps a hidden feature (magic key combo) could be preferable to avoid massive support feedback?

Still trying to get USB (int./ext.) running. Meanwhile I got a mPCIe card with USB2.0/3.0 based on a supported NEC chip that will find its way into this machine in replacement of the Wifi card. Let's see if this could be a solution. (Progress slowed down a bit due to a snowboard accident, though.)

Never used thermal pads. I just put a small ball of thermal paste in the middle of the chip and let the heat sink spread it. I know there are many different approaches, for example some like to spread the paste with a small plastic spreader etc.
I never experienced any issues and whenever I replaced a chip again, I found the thermal paste perfectly spread.

Progress on the MB 4,1 USB side:
I tried two different cards in the mPCIe slot (instead of the Wifi card there).
First card with two very convenient USB cable attachments showed no USB functions at all, did not show up in system infos or as unknown PCI device either and as I discovered, it is actually only a "passive" 2-port-USB hub that takes the (PC world only) USB signals on the mPCIe connector and distributes them with correct 5V levels and supply to the two outputs. As these signals are missing on MacBooks (or would be currently non-functional anyway due to lack of USB native support on this machine under Mojave) this first card was a letdown here.

The second card has an actual USB3 controller on it, the NEC/Renesas D720202, and with additional Lacie drivers (for macOS 10.8.+) it now really shows up as USB3 in the system info!
Now I need some cables for attaching some USB peripherals - and then we'll see further... ;-)

You need this keyword on marketplaces (probably you knew):

To enable USB, u need to simply modify/patch the Info.plist in LegacyUSB kext (add the missing configuration dictionaries from previus version of OS X for MB4,1). After that, u need to rebuild the prelinkedkernel on another mac, and simply use that kernel when booting on 4,1.

DP3 looks so in-stable that made macforums hanging on for a while.
I just tested 18E194d on a mach with IntelHD 1st Gen (Arrandale) and yes, it' s still stuck on "IOgLockScreen..". But I see difference compared to prev. Betas; now.. ACPI Brightness is working. Seems, graphics acceleration (could be referred to OpenGL) is working. Do we get brightness on IGPU if gfx accel is disabled? Plz correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.
