While you are arguing about News and News+, in my region it does not work, I do not miss it.

When I start the same via Terminal with the command: "open -a news.app" it opens, but most news is not available and when it is, in English only.
It is very limited for Brazil.
[doublepost=1556068750][/doublepost]My workaround is still working.
Who wants to use, is here:

You can notice clearly if check inside News.app packages that the available language-countries locazitation are:

en_AU.lproj (Australia)
en_GB.lproj (Great Britain or UK)
en.lproj (that is default language typically en_US the country where apple headquarters reside)

But if you search in the News.app bar you can find many many newspaper, in English only for now.

My question is which machine do you have, and can you use the News.app without crashing ?

And do you have on the left column tab the News+ pane ?

It's not News or News+ per se that concerns us. It's the fact that one or our "Marzipan" based apps is not working correctly and Apple is doing a lot along those lines (remember News+ was a big announcement last month) , more apps like this will pop-up in 10.15.

Agree, probably they are "metalizing" everything on that front.
I mean iOS should be a predominantly "Metal" apple OS.

I understand perfectly. My point is that Apple should have released this app worldwide, and it chose only a few regions.

Yeah, I think it may have to do with negotiating publishing rights etc. Anyway the entire News and News+ roll-out has been quite the debacle...They will be re-engineering iTunes and other apps much the same way in 10.15. Never liked iTunes myself but smells like another mess and upcoming headaches for us.

You need to modify the support plist. Have you tried my APFS patch first? I'd like to have someone test that so I can approve it and push it to the master branch.

i have MBP 2011 MacBookPro8,2 im using high sierra 10.13.6 can i update to mojave without any problem? anyone tried this on the same machine? sorry noob question
[doublepost=1556119767][/doublepost]I installed 10.14.3 on my 8,2 MacBook Pro via dosdude1 patcher instructions. First time I did it I installed the Legacy Video drivers which failed to provide a smooth graphics experience as I believe it made the GPU fix I had already implemented not work anymore. I reinstalled again without selecting the Legacy Video Drivers and it works beautifully. The patcher later let me install Night Shift. My only issue is no sleep or brightness control.

Download the source code from the dev branch. d2.1 on the releases page.
Yes, I made before. 4 mins remaining to finished installation
[doublepost=1556122133][/doublepost]not success...maybe due to my HDD have 2 partition. i kept 10.7 at partition 1 and install 10.14 at partition 2.

after applied patch, 2 partition renamed with same name. and can't boot into 10.14 and showed attached screen

They are definitely taking that road. But News still crashes on an OpenGL call. Another weird thing is that it only crashes when you start to scroll down a page.

Don't you had a Macbook7,1 to test .5 beta 3 ? I do and News OpenGL call doesn't crash neither there.
I recall that I still use News.app without any iCloud sync.
Now I'm still testing the stability of dualGPUs Arrandale using that .4 kext-set and is pretty stable.

I have to say that on 5 beta 2, I had same yours News.app crashing with acceleration, but I didn't used the exact same .4 kext-set especially with GPUWrangler.framework, that using "otool" is strictly dependent from CoreDisplay too.

Ok this will be almost irrelevant but @pkouame I attach my News.app exactly as is, try to replace yours, or maybe open it from the Downloads folder and see what happens.

Hi first of all a huge thanks to everyone who helps make this thing work... I've installed this on multiple machines and almost always with perfect results. But I have a couple iMac 8,1 (both 24") that keep having problems with audio--a near constant clicking. I did a quick search in the thread and found someone else with the same issue, but it doesn't seem like he or she got it solved it in the end. I tried all the same things, reinstalling all patches, running the patch tool again, once rebuilding caches. I have seen a couple of times the message "Legacy Audio driver has been overwritten, reinstall". I reinstall but it happens again.

With the machine I've spent most time with, there are periods where it will work well, but most of the time no. It also happened with High Sierra on the same machine, and earlier versions of Mojave. Now it is at 10.14.4.

Today, before posting, I finally tried a clean install. After first boot, Patch Updater opens to tell me about 4 things to install, volume, brightness, isight and video I think. I apply, restart. Same sound issue. After boot the Patch Updater warns me that the Legacy Audio driver has been overwritten, I reinstall, restart. Same issue. Any ideas here?

I only have a mbp 5,3 (mid-2009) to test on (my pro 3,1 supports metal so no real issues there)
I think it's great that you have a configuration where these apps don't crash.
I'll try your News.app tonight when I get home. I'll keep you posted. I like puzzles...

Send me an image of your boot menu (option key). It should work if you have two partitions since it's on a per drive basis. One thing to note, is your drive an internal drive?

Hi Jackluke and Pkouame,
On my MBP5,3 under 10.14.5 Beta 3, News + has disappeared but News works ... well almost because I have no article available (being in France I have the message "This item is currently unavailable in your area. .. "except in" Today "where he looks for and says:" no articles "(I use News without any iCloud sync)
I tried to put mac OS in English as the main language and to connect with a VPN located in the US but nothing works ...
Otherwise, in "History" (which has been kept since 10.14.3 and .2) I can re-read several articles without News crash.

I know, on my machines the same thing, News+ disappeared but News.app is working correctly.

Even if you are in a different country, without any VPN you can read hundreds of newspapers, only in English apple released them, just type any "keyword" you prefer in the upper-left little news search bar.

For example type "Macbook", or "News+" and you will notice many free newspaper you can read.

More generic keywords you type more digital newspaper will appear.

What does work all around the world with the news app is to input a search term (i.e. "Atari") and let the news find all relevant stories...

Edit: Jackluke was faster...

Sorry! I did not even think about doing a search ... all because since 10.14 the articles were automatically displayed in the "Today" section

Thanks!

How did you upgrade to .5b3?
We have the same machine and my upgrade path was .4 from usb -> OTA .5b2 -> OTA .5b3 post-installing the entire way. I definitely have News+ since .4. Seems like yours is stable (no crashes while you read articles) right?

Salut Pkouame
updated from .4 to .5b3 with Pacifist and "macOSUpd10.14.5_3.pkg"
I replaced "CoreDisplay" and re-applied the patches with "macOS Post Install.app" 1.3.0 and force rebuild cache
After the boot I re-installed the patches with "Patch Updater.app"
Yes News.app is stable and don't crash when I read the articles (I just read for 1 hour)

Ah! Seems like both you and @jackluke took a different route to .5b3 -> no visible "News+" BUT classic News works flawlessly (great!)

So installation may be a factor - I have one last thing to check on my side: I used .4 CoreDisplay instead of .3 CoreDisplay, maybe that has an effect. I can only check that later tonight, but one of you guys may want to see if it makes a difference.

Either using .3 CoreDisplay or .4 CoreDisplay News.app (the current version without News+ tab) doesn't crash on .5 beta 3. I have tested right now.

This is my boot menu.

1. 10.7.5 (named EFI BOOT)
2. 10.14.3 (original name is testing, after applied APFS patch, it changed to EFI BOOT too)
3. 10.7.5 recovery
4. USB Pen Drive

Yes, it is an internal drive. I tried to use USB to boot into installation app to force startup by 10.14.3. But still show that command screen

It crashes on my system. It just takes 30 seconds or so.

I have News+ though.
Same here, after 30 seconds or after I start scrolling down an article. Been that way since .5.
@alphascorp has my machine so we can eliminate the machine type theory
The version of CoreDisplay doesn't seem to matter
The only common thread between @alphascorp and @jackluke is they installed the base system using other means (even though alpha ran post-install)
Strange.
