When only usable GPU is IntelHD3000 in MBP8,2 is it possible to use an external monitor - in Mojave...?

Impossible.
Displayport is connected to the AMD graphics card in hardware.
At this time, the alternative is a USB 3.0 - HDMI adapter.
Perhaps eGPU via Thunderbolt is also possible. (But the cost ..)

Is anyone running Mojave on an iMac 9,1 (2009)?

I’m currently running HS on it (using Dosdude’s patch) and it’s fine. Wondering if Mojave would be any worse or maybe better, performance wise?

TIA

When only usable GPU is IntelHD3000 in MBP8,2 is it possible to use an external monitor - in Mojave...?

I have Macbook Pro 8,2 with broken AMD dGPU...so I had to disable it regardless of which MacOS version...in fact, that was the final driver for me to upgrade from High Sierra to Mojave...AMD dGPU started to fail...and since I now HAD to disable it, I figured "why not" go to Mojave. Fact is, Mojave makes my MBP 8,2 run better than ever...

Anyway, external display/monitor does NOT appear to work when the AMD dGPU is disabled on MBP. In my case, I didn't use an external display very often at all anyway...I have a 27in iMac that I just use VNC (Screen sharing) if I need to get to see my MBP from the iMac. (I use that for my MacMini as well...the Mini is basically a headless system and I only use VNC.). I've only really used the external monitor from my MBP for presentations...but I found it is better and easier to do that now from my iPhone or iPad....Don't even need to break out the MBP at all anymore for those meetings...

10.14.5 on my 2011 5.1 Mac mini, this screen cap just about says everything I need to say.

Hello to all.

MacBook Pro 5,2 (mid 2009) T9900 model

Installed 10.14.5 (final) on one partition, and 10.14.6 beta1 on another; both via OTA pathway, using Dosdude1's Mojave Patcher 1.3.1.

Both installation went without problems, though I had to rerun post-install patches 10.14.6 beta.

Machine runs flawlessly, as long as neither News application nor Safari are launched. News.app crashes as does, predictably, Safari. That's been a long standing problem, which seems to affect some MacBook Pros.

What's new, is an inability to switch between graphic cards; I am running on the GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB, and can't seem to switch to the 258 MB variant. Hence, I can't test whether switching to the 9400M 258 MB card still causes KPs.

Has anyone noted same problem(s) in their MacBook Pro 5,2, or a machine with similar hardware ?

Thanks.
I think PRAM reset will send it back to 9400 integrated card.

Do anyone experience Finder crash on 10.14.5? I reinstalled the OS but Finder just crash. I clicked on the Finder icon and it keeps pop-up "The application Finder cannot be open" How to fix this problem?

Thank you.

Try running the Maintenance utility from Titanium Software's Onyx v3.6.2 with the following settings. This has always fixed Safari issues/crashes plus KP's (on non officially support Mojave Mac's) after updates for me. The second set of settings are under the options button.

Thanks for suggestion; I actually reset the SMC, before returning to the forum, and was able to get the M9400 258 MB to activate. I "run" on that card for substantial amount of time, and it no longer KPs.

I was then unable to return to the M9600 512 MB (using energy setting routine) but simple restart reset the system to use the M9600 512 MB. Not optimal, but useful when needed.

Thanks for the pointer. I actually did run the utility, but it crashed, and I had to force quit it. Still, it may have made the difference; on restart Safari did not crash for the time period I have used it.

Important to use the latest Legacy Video Card patch on MBP5,2. This comes with latest patcher version 1.3.2 and I guess the Patch Updater will also install it. I installed 10.14.5 with @dosdude USB installer, made with patcher 1.3.2.
My MBP5,2 17“ (T9600, 2.8GHz) runs fine since, including Safari, in both 9400 and 9600 mode. Switching between them seems still a bit delicate. Force it to 9400 via nvram reset is fine. Going from there to 9600 as you did is also fine, but not too much switching.
@jackluke provided an extra semi-manual fix for this (post #15045) which works well on my MBP5,2.

(Note: @jackluke - in the .command script of Mojave10145DualGpuFix the 2nd chmod/chown should target PrivateFrameworks, not Extensions?)

Hi ya 1jak0;

I have the same problem on my supported Mac Pro 5,1 accessing YouTube with Safari with the right video card. Also when the YouTube video starts to play does it quit a few minutes later? Mine does.

For others: Please don't ever recommend Chrome or Chromium, I don't trust Google with my browsing history. I greatly value my privacy.

Technically is possible to mirror the IntelHD3000 using the native Airplay wireless screen function on an "apple tv".

Actually MBP 13" with only IntelHD3000 https://support.apple.com/kb/SP645
is capable video output an external monitor through the Thunderbolt port, I ask if on dualGPUs mac would possible that some hardware logic board modification could pilot the thunderbolt port to the IntelHD3000.

Problem: Unable to upload projects to Arduino via the IDE application on Mojave for unsupported devices

This solution worked flawlessly and has saved me from dual booting El Capitan and Mojave. I wanted to elaborate on the process I used for less experience users like myself.

I used three programs to get the job done. I'm sure I could have done it all through terminal but I couldn't figure it out. Here were my steps:

1- Download high Sierra from the App Store. It's 6gb so start now.
2- Download Pacifist, KextBeast and Kext Utility
3- Once High Sierra is downloaded use Pacifist to extract the AppleUSBACM.kext file we need.
3a- In Pacifist choose the button 'open apple installers' and choose the high Sierra package
3b- Use the drop down arrows to expand 'Contents of OSInstall', 'Contents of Core.pkg', 'System', 'Library', 'Extensions' and then highlight AppleUSBACM.kext by clicking on it
3c- Click 'Extract too..." from the menu bar. Choose the desktop (KextBeast will be looking for it there)
4- Use KextBeast to insert the kext file from your desktop to your /systems/library/extension folder. Make sure AppleUSBACM.kext is the only kext file on the desktop.
5- Open kext utility. It will repair your kext folders. Once complete just close the program.
6- Reboot and enjoy your Arduino project.

Sadly I don't visit this forum unless I have an issue so if I've made an error I hope this helps enough to get you in the right direction.
MBP5,2 17" here on 10.14.5, prepared with dosdude patcher 1.3.2.
I confirm that replacing AppleUSBACM.kext in /System/Library/Extensions with the one from 10.13.6 (zip attached) gets the Arduino online again.

Yes, it was a very earlier @ASentientBot fix: Arduino USB Mojave fix

About your question on chown/chmod the Frameworks/PrivateFrameworks is not needed, it's only needed for Extensions.

For Frameworks is only needed a "codesign" when the file is binary patched, the ones I uploaded are all untouched from HighSierra, so not binary patched.

Maybe dosdude1 can answer if there is a HW modification that can be done for MacBook Pro 8,2 to get the display port/thunderbolt port to support an external display when the AMD dGPU is disabled. He is the master of doing intricate HW modifications. (In fact, he is a genius IMHO...hope he is making boatloads of money, as somebody with his talent should be!)

intel quick sync h264 hardware acceleration not working... how to make it work? Can't find the answer in this thread. If it doesn't work so there is no point to go with Mojave at all! I have tested with FCPX, QuickTime and It works perfectly on High Sierra but not on Mojave.

Mac Mini mid 2011 now running 10.14.5. Created a new USB from dosdude website. All ok.

Noticed big slow down in performance compared to previous version - much more coloured wheel when asking to do simple things like launching apps, lots more waiting.

Anyone else noticed any slowing down?

Try Onyx from post 15307 above.
It will Never Hurt and May Help

Just updated my HackPro 5,1 (Socket 1156, Overclocked Xeon X3450, NVidia GeForce 9800GT) from 10.14.4 to 10.14.5. Process was easy thanks to DosDude's Mojave Patcher:
  1. Apply Mojave 10.14.5 update from AppStore
  2. Before booting Mojave 10.14.5 for first time, install DosDude Legacy Graphics Drivers
  3. Boot Mojave 10.14.5
I'm not seeing any performance difference between 10.14.4 and 10.14.5 on my HackPro 5,1. I measured before and after with GeekBench and see virtually identical performance. I just updated, so there may be things I'm not yet seeing, but so far, so good.

Same problem here, i have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2x 2,8 Quad, 16 GB, Nvidia GT 120 512 MB / GTX 760 2GB)

Went back to 10.14.4 and 1.3.1 and everything is a smooth as possible again. Skipping any patch the Patch Updater suggests now.
