That’s not entirely true. If you can boot to the Catalina installer USB you can open disk utility, unmount the HFS+ volume, convert it to APFS, then begin the Catalina installation routine and it will upgrade correctly. I’ve done it countless times.

I guess you will need to have around 60% of available space on your HDD as the system will be cloning your entire installation to the free space on a drive during the HFS+ to APFS conversion.

Unfortunately, sleep won't work and there's no way to fix it.

hi,

i have a Mac Pro 3,1 with a maybe unusual GPU configuration of GTX 760 (non Mac ROM) + HD 2600 XT (Apple), which worked fine in Sierra.

i installed Mojave with dosdude1's patcher. i included the legacy video card patch, because without it the system would hang on the boot progress bar and i read that the HD 2600 XT needs it.

now i am able to boot just fine, but i get no video out of the GTX 760. if i understood correctly, this card should be supported... is it not? or is the legacy video card patch interfering with it?

edit:
reinstalled without the legacy video card patch, removed the HD 2600 XT from the machine and now it's working. no boot menu of course but that's ok :)

Hopefully someone can help me. I made the bootable usb drive and I select the drive when I boot up my mac, but it keeps getting stuck loading
here. I have tried two different bootable USB drives and I'm having the same issue on both.

Hi,

i recently updated my Macbook mid 2010 to mojave which has been working very well but I have figured out i now need to upgrade my RAM to 8GB to make it faster which is supported even though officialy it dosent but has been proven it works.

Looking online i have come across one ram kit on Amazon which dosent say my specfic model but still says it is compatible for all models around this time of 2010 to 2011.

I was just wanting to know if this will be compatible with my Mac and if any negitive effects could come from upgrading the ram on a mac running unsuported system (mojave).

Thanks

1066 Mhz DDR3 is key for that MacBook. CL9 nope. Apple thinks DDR3 is 1067 Mhz.

Try resetting the NVRAM, three strokes. Then boot from USB patcher.

It probably won't work. MacBook mid 2010 uses PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) and those are 1333MHz.

Downgrade question Mojave to High Sierra

I am running Mojave on a late 2011 MBP 8.2 HFS+ for a couple of months now. Was running fine for quite some time, but is becoming more and more unstable. First I could simply close the lid and later after opening the lid again continuing with my work. Now it fully boots, or doesn't start at all. Sometimes I notice the MBP is rebooting out of itself, with the lid closed.

So I think it is better to downgrade to Hight Sierra.

I have an TM backup from the HS-install, but that is already a few months old, since I am running Mojave already for a few months. So I can create a new TM-backup, do I clean HS-install and use the Mojave-TM-backup. However I read different stories. On says this does do the trick, the other says you can't use a backup from a new OS. A third advises to use a ccc-backup or similar.

Please some advise. What is the best approach??

See jowaju at #18,225. If on SSD, APFS is more stable. A bootable back-up can be made with Disk Utility Restore prior to conversion. If on a HDD, the conversion can take awhile. Relax, no one is going anywhere, anyway. ?

This behaviour is present even on supported machines so it has nothing to do with the unsupported Macs. I personally still think that Mojave is better than High Sierra. No system is perfect.

External Audio cards and drivers

Hi amazing people,

Recently I have updated my 2011 MacBook Pro to Mojave 10.14.6 using @dosdude his amazing method. So far it is working properly. However, there is one pushback.

As a hobby I like mixing, using an Allen & Heath Xone 4D. This requires audio drivers and firmware in order to use the mixer it's an external audio card. For almost every mac os update they deliver drivers and firmware in order to make this work.

After updating to Mojave I had to update these drivers, for the sake of it, I am sharing links to these drivers below.

Now after following the installation procedure, the mixer stays non-responsive. Not getting any audio out, or response in midi.

I was wondering if anyone over here has any experience with external audio cards, drivers, and firmware for midi while working with the patches from @dosdude, and if anyone could perhaps help me out solving this issue.

Hopefully, my explanation is explicit enough, please let me know if there is a need for extra information.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

For now, huge thanks for all the effort and time.

Kind regards,
Architectural

Thanks for the heads up. I don't actually use Siri and I'm getting very lazy with the patches. Legacy video card and legacy audio patches is all I need for my Mojave installation.
